Just ignore the race discussions. Anyone talking about Race or skin color. No matter their intention. Just ignore it. Just watch the movie and have fun seeing a different World and different characters.
@ Mistah J.. Exactly! I don't understand why people are over analyzing this. It's a superhero movie for God's sakes! It happens to be good. Great! If you happen to like Marvel movies, well now, it's off to the next one. That's it.
Gene Siskel did not even lived long enough to watch any of the MCU movies! He died way before the first MCU movie came out. At least Ebert had the chance to watch the full Phase 1 before he pass away.
Love your reviews Richard.I always look forward to all your reviews and I’m especially excited for your thoughts on Annihilation.I agree with Captain Ridley, favorite movie critic.
Agreed, great movie. Michael B. Jordan character to me was a little one dimensional - we needed more scenes with him pre Wakanda. But, yeah, best superhero film I've ever seen, deserves the praise.
Sorry, I liked the movie. I didn't love it. B- grade from me. I thought Michael B. Anthony came off the best. Why no mention of his name from Richard? Same with Andy Serkis.
Well I've heard nothing but great things about this, so Richard might not be wrong. Plus Richard gives nearly every film 3.5 stars. 4 stars wasn't a surprise.
richard roeper you are my go to critic. This movie was amazing. I just saw it and while I do not really find Marvel movies to be mature enough, this was the most mature and intelligent Marvel film to date. Keep up the good work!!?
.agreed Jackson.. and the movie also takes a shot at white people too,, a lame joke in the movie.. which makes the director a hypocrite.. its not a master piece.. its over hyped
Black Panther was a good superhero film absolutely nothing more. 4 stars is ridiculous. There hasn't been a single superhero film that deserves 4 stars and certainly not Black Panther. At least half a dozen MCU/DC films are far better.
Is everyone just afraid of being called a racist if they give this movie a negative review? It was not a good movie. It was okay at best and these glowing reviews are baffling. Do we not even respect black culture enough to be honest? Cherry pick the best bits all you like but the plot and characters are both severely lacking in passion and depth. I'm so disappointed in our society right now. Those armored rhinos? So silly.
za21 If you're going to reply please be thoughtful in your response. Give me reasons why I'm wrong. Telling me I'm wrong because that's how you just feel doesn't help create a conversation or have any basis, it stifles our way of growth and thinking.
drkhkz It's funny how you want a "thoughtful" response when you say dumb shit like people being afraid to call it bad when it isn't or be called a racist. When you are only saying that because it has a predominantly black cast which says a lot about you. And I doubt you actually saw it. Because either you're trying really hard to be a contrarian because everyone is praising the film or you just don't know what a good film is.
za21 I said nothing about a predominantly black cast. It's possible I'm mistaken that the film wasn't good. But it's highly doubtful. There's so many silly moments in the film that just don't amount amount to a perfect four star rating from the most critical of film critics. The reason I'm bringing it up to begin with is because I was shocked that there were no bad reviews. I usually check reviews right after I see a film to see if I'm correct in my analysis of the film. Sometimes I'm in the minority but this one takes a whopping part of the cake. I respect your opinion but please don't call mine dumb shit. It's a genuine question. Film is very important to me. I'd just like to talk and create a dialogue.
Is this movie an argument for ethno-nationalism ? If it is, I fully support it. . . . But just wondering . . . when do we whites get our own country like the people of Wakanda ?
No, I haven't, which is why I asked a question. However I have heard that from people who have seen the movie that Wakanda: 1. is a racially homogeneous ethnostate 2. has no immigration 3. is nationalist and isolationist 4. is protected by walls So, again, when do we whites get a country like this ?
I personally thought it was totally over rated. It was mediocre at best. I can't say that in public though or I'll be labelled a racist.
yes you absolutely can say you hated it and no one is labeling you a racist you f*cking baby.
@UCC1WsTFK4WW80C6-Ya2vSuQ Lmaooo right what a fucking loser
Just ignore the race discussions. Anyone talking about Race or skin color. No matter their intention. Just ignore it. Just watch the movie and have fun seeing a different World and different characters.
Mistah J thank you you're awesome

Roger Ebert would have definitely liked this movie...and perhaps Gene Siskel would have as well.

I've found that I usually agree with your opinions on film so I'm going to go into the theater with high expectations
Brannon H You won't be disappointed. It was delightful. It is smart, creative and just fun to watch.
This movie was so painful
Great review.
Ok!!
Yep and if he said anything different he be called a racist.
Well I've heard nothing but great things about this, so Richard might not be wrong.

Check my track record over the last 20 years. I do NOT give nearly every film 3.5 or 4 stars.
richard roeper Not since mid 2014.

The movie was really bad
The film is growing on me.
Black Panther was a good superhero film absolutely nothing more. 4 stars is ridiculous. There hasn't been a single superhero film that deserves 4 stars and certainly not Black Panther. At least half a dozen MCU/DC films are far better.
David Hinkle of course I do and in my opinion giving 4 stars to a superhero film is ridiculous. Sorry you're such a baby that you can't deal with it.
David Hinkle lol it took you no time at all to invalidate your own initial argument about opinions well done moron.
David Hinkle lol ok I'll do that God you're pathetic. It's a superhero movie not a civil rights movement grow up.
This movie was fantastic.
I loved it.
Is it me or is Richard packing on some lbs in the facial area? Please take care of yourself. One of the best movie reviewers since Siskel and Ebert.

drkhkz Because it was a good film. You are wrong.

drkhkz Accusing people who praise the film as giving it fake praise for fear of being called racist is not creating dialogue.
It was OK... 7/10
Pedro Escalera 7/10 is very good in rating terms. OK would be a 5 which is average. It giving the movie a strong review.
Is this movie an argument for ethno-nationalism ? If it is, I fully support it. . . . But just wondering . . . when do we whites get our own country like the people of Wakanda ?
jryan1971 you obviously haven't watched the movie.
jryan1971 lol. You should come to the United States. And also i hope you dont have a problem with Japan, Africa, China, India etc....
No, I haven't, which is why I asked a question. However I have heard that from people who have seen the movie that Wakanda:
1. is a racially homogeneous ethnostate
2. has no immigration
3. is nationalist and isolationist
4. is protected by walls
So, again, when do we whites get a country like this ?
jryan1971 And the message of the movie is that that way of thinking is wrong.
jryan1971 dude the movie literally portrays ethnonationalism as a PROBLEM
