One of the major reasons Trent's vocals are *so* good, is because he's not a normal frontman. Most singers in rock music expect to be at the forefront of the music. All or most of the time, their vocals parts are similar to when a guitarist plays a solo. It's supposed to be the most important part of the music you're hearing. Trent's been producing all of the music he's making for decades. He's creating the drum tracks in whatever tool he's using, playing the guitars and keyboards and saxophones and piano and synths [...], he's writing the songs. (He's had many very able people in the studio helping him do this, from Flood to Charlie Clouser to Atticus Ross, but the point is he's intimately involved in all parts of his music). He's so used to doing unique things with his voice - whispering or quasi-chanting or croaking or creaking or screaming, being breathy or solid in his delivery, having raw vocals or being behind countless layers of production or distortion. As a result his vocals *complement* the music so well because it's essentially one of his many instruments and means of making an emotional impact. He's never, ever going "look at me! I am such an amazing singer! Listen to this riff and run! I truly am the star of this band!". Instead he's saying, "listen to this song, all of it, the vocals and everything else, and let yourself feel". I mean he's so wiling to de-centre vocals when needed that he has several albums of literally nothing but instrumentals. That's why nobody else - even when they tried getting other vocalists to record this (this was just supposed to be a rough take!) - could match Trent. He will not over-sing something or try to persuade you he's an amazing singer (he personally doesn't have a high opinion of his own singing!). He just, over decades of practice and experience, knows how to make his voice match a feeling. And that's one of the most powerful things any vocalist can do.

I have lived a lifetime of self destruction of the highest quality, as terrible as the aftermath always felt, It truly was my only option to feel real emotions. I am still on this planet because of a man who always seemed to be dealing with the issues that were constantly jumping out to try and derail my life. But not only did it feel like he was giving me his hand to pull me out before I was too deep, but he was not only showing me that he made it out again, he was that plus being like here is a song I wrote about how I made it out again, hope it inspires you to to never give up, always climb out. It showed me that I was hiding from the darkness of life in a mindset that was much more darker. And since the self destruction button is stuck in a locked position.
