    Really like the victorinox pocket sharpener. Lost mine a while back. I’ll definitely be replacing it. Another great video!

    I prefer Fällkniven CC4 with the usual ceramic side and a finer ceramic instead of the diamond side. You should try it.

    The victorinox made me curious, I just ordered one to test out :D I suspect it could be pretty good at sharpening serrations, thanks for the tip!

    • @MB_EDC
      @MB_EDC  10 дней назад

      I haven't tried it on a serrated blade but given the oval shape of the main sharpening stone - it should work OK...

      @@MB_EDC I got mine today and have had a chance to test it a bit on different knives and different steels. Its suprisingly good at removing steel for being so small and relatively fine, it does work with serrations but because of its oval shape it kinda needs to be twisted into each individual arch which is very tricky to get consistent. It works fine on all steels ive tested on which includes 1095, 420hc, magnacut, cru-wear, VG10 and K390 so no problem doing super steels on this even. Super impressed with that part.
      What im not very impressed with is that this creates one hell of a "clingy" burr that is super hard to get rid of, and the ceramic pull-through thing really does a crap job of getting rid of it. All it seems to do, is make the burr stand up straight so you think its sharp, but the moment I take it to a leather or denim strop its so bad it actually leaves striations in them. I do kinda feel like a coarse leather/fabric strop with a fairly coarse compound (lets say 6-12 micron) is borderline mandatory to use along with this if you dont want the edge to dull after 3 cuts because the burr is folding back over. On the 420hc knife that is already a bit soft, the burr was so bad I could flip it back and forth with my finger. If I was sat in the woods with nothing but this sharpener, im sure I could minimize the burr with super light passes and improvise a strop with the inside of some tree bark though. But if I didnt know it was there, I can see it tricking people.
      I think this has a place for sure, and I will be keeping mine in my toiletry bag along with a spare SAK for travelling and whatnot, but for sharpening at home I still think a proper stone and/or a proper ceramic rod is much better while not tricking you into thinking you have a sharp edge when you dont, and if you are travelling/camping/field sharpening I would probably suggest trying out the Worksharp Guided Field Sharpener (about 40 bucks) or their Folding Field Sharpener for 30 bucks if you want something about the same size. Those things are easier to use and gets better results imo.
      I do like this for what it is, which in my head is a quick fix, but I will be redoing all the knives I tested on "real" stones later because while the edges are servicable... My god does this thing leave them ugly looking haha

    I've never owned a DC3, but that Victorinox is a top notch piece of kit IMO. I use that to touch up my boning knife when I'm butchering deer.👍Great video, buddy!

    Havent used my DC4s since I picked up the CC4. For maintaining a well cared for edge the ceramic plate is way more useful than a diamond plate

      @MB_EDC  5 месяцев назад +1

      I'll have to check that out. I try to strop most off the time and use the ceramic side. Hardly ever use the diamond side

    Hey Mark 👊🏼
    I have always enjoyed using the DC4, as I prefer the extra surface area and have larger hands. However, the newer version I find is not as fine as the original that I got in 2010.
    The Victorinox S-Pen is great for maintaining everyday budget steels. I have even used it on my Spyderco Urban Lite - S30v and CRKT Pilar - D2 Steels in a pinch, with fairly good results.
    Overall, I use the S-Pen for my general EDC when out & about and the DC4 to maintain harder steels or when doing Bushcraft 🌳 🪵🔥
    Also, have a Gransfor puck to sharpen my axe 🪓
    Cool video, clearly I need to do more comparison videos, myself 😉

    I believe on the Victorinox, the draw thru should be used to sharpen and the rod is to maintain the edge.

    • @MB_EDC
      @MB_EDC  Месяц назад +2

      Quite possibly. I don't recommend using pull through sharpeners as they can remove a lot of metal.

    • @RS4393
      @RS4393 Месяц назад +1

      @MB_EDC I would only use the draw thru if the blades had a chip or a burr. Rod should be fine for maintaining the edge once established. Good video though.
