Thanks for making this video. I just bought a filter just like this one (different brand name but it looks like it is made at the same factory). I, too, was dismayed at the sadly lacking instructions, but since I have done almost all of my own pool equipment maintenance/repairs for 30+ years I did not think I would have any trouble. I am switching from a Hayward S200 side mount valve to this one and was really happy to find your video. Thanks for clearing up some of my questions that were not covered by the instruction manual!
I just installed the filter and the pump that they sell on Amazon as a combo. Thanks for the video it helped out a lot. My inground pool went from green to crystal clear in about 3 days. The hardest part about the install was the plumbing connections.
THANK YOU! Your a life saver!! Amazon reviews were right! Great product BAD INSTRUCTIONS!! I also was replacing that Hayward S200 Awful Egg filter w/ 2,000 rusted screws... but they do not tell u how to assemble and it’s a bit different from the old! Thanks again... changing the sand will be easy now w/ only 2!!!
Great video. I am getting ready to install a sand filter and this was looking at similar models. This was really helpful. Thank you for filming and sharing!
Ditto. I wish to God I'd seen your video before I tried it on my own. I realized too late, when I watched your video, that the tube was supposed to connect to the pipe. By that point, I had already filled the thing with sand. Just finished taking all the sand out, attaching the hose, and putting everything back. Thanks so much for your video!
Thanks for the video! Of course the kids opened the box and scattered the parts all over the yard. And misplaced the instructions. I couldn't figure out what the centering ring was for as it didn't fit anywhere on the assembled unit. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video, picked up the 19" for our pool and was wondering what the clear tube inside was for. Filter seems great, the included instructions.....not so much.
Yeah the instructions are not good! The filter is great! I've had it for 3 months and everything is still working perfect. Filters my pool much better than my old Hayward. But the clear tube is just a vent i think. Thanks for watching!
Hi everyone! Thanks for watching...Sorry I did not get to film my final review before I moved houses. I had the filter for 2 years before moving. I had no issues at all with the filter or sand!
I recently got a new sand filter. I cannot get the collar on around the port valve w the O ring on. You made it look like it just screws on but with mine it will not even pushing down as hard as I can. Any suggestions or ideas of what I may be doing wrong?
Good looking out My friend , manual was vague in regards to the little hose and the aligning jig. I'm putting mine together now with a little more confidence after watching this. Happy Fathers day.
thanks i got 19" directions absolutely useless and no one else had any helpful vids, the clear tube and also the pipe cover ,for putting in sand, was trying to figure out if part of base or something i missed. I guess it was too much for manufacture to put a simple diagram showing this stuff thanks
Very good installation . you did very good job Just I wish you showed us how you installed the pipes like the one from skimmer to pump from the pump to filter it will be the best any way thank you
Hi thanks for watching! There are so many other good videos on how to do basic plumbing I decided to fast forward through that part for time sake, sorry about that! Thanks again for watching.
Your video has been so helpful!! I too was wondering what to do with that clear tube. Been searching for hours and finally came upon your video! Huge help and excellent instructions on installing. I wish I saw your video before paying my brother to install it. Anyway thank you!!
You want to avoid using Teflon tape on pvc. Pvc is tapered to make a water-tight, snug fit. When you use Teflon, it allows the connection to be over tightened and put stress on/crack the fittings.
You really need to use union joints, I just didn’t have any at the time of the video. I would have to cut the pipe and glue it back using a coupling to change the sand. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video. You are right, there is nothing in the instructions about that stupid breather. I'm also moving from a Hayward side mount to this RX Clear from Amazon. Same plumbing challenge.
Hi Gatlan Vinson. I am new to the pool maintenance. We moved into the house with pool, have never had one. Due to some pool water issues we were recommended to do partial water replacement. First what I should do was the backwash. But I forgot to switch to the drain mode from the backwashing. I realized it only after 1.5-2 hours of draining. Did I do any damage to the filter or its components? Did I loose sand doing this? Scared to go any further... Any advices???
Thankfully Gatlan had this video posted as the filter didn't come with instructions! But considering this unit was almost 1/2 the price of the Hayward I'm replacing, I'm good.... I spent my evening disconnecting the old sand filter and filling this new one with sand. I still have to connect the PVC tomorrow so I'm not sure how satisfied I will be with the new unit yet. Will post again to update👍
The return valve outlet and the backwash outlet are threaded on the inside and also the outside. Instead of using an adapter that threads on the inside which reduces the diameter of the pipe, we should use the outside threads in order not to limit flow. Where can I find that part though?
Video helped so much! I was able to find all the pieces I needed from Lowe’s of Schedule 40 pipe. I went with 2” but I think it’s just gonna be overkill. Thank you for the video!
I wanted to know the install time of the sand filter. I got a quote of $1700 for an install of a sand filter only and replacing chlorinator, pool pump and booster pump for Polaris pool cleaner was an additional $1900.
Hey William. In the area I live, that price sounds high. I think a professional should be able to install a filter in 1 hr. It took me a little longer because I was filming
I appreciate your note. The research I have done the prices they quoted 3-5 times the rates I have seen from buying on line. Of course the pool pump might be sterling or chrome plated ?
I actually have a question for u! Where is the pressure relief port. For example on the Hayward s200 it was on top of the clear shell and u have to open that to fill the tank initially. Book looks to say the valve and the gauge are the same! So I’m confused!
The tube with the white thing on the end acts like a pressure release it floats up and allows the air to be pushed up the center pipe and out of the return
in my old middle tube assembly i had that smaller tube in there.no idea what it was for..when i put the new lateral assembly, i did not reinstall that smaller tube...is this critical to have in there?
That multi-port valve has a straight thread o-ring port NOT pipe thread where the gauge is installed. The proper adapter is 1/2-20 straight thread to 1/4 in pipe thread( npt).
Lagueux Sharon. Im not sure. The tube is a vent but I don’t know how important it is. Some models may not have a tube. Maybe it’ll work fine without it.
Thank you. This was very helpful. Now that you've had it a few years, how do you like it? I have the same size -- Do you think I can use less sand? I have a smaller pool and this filter is bigger than I needed.
AlternativeHRD ...I really like it. I haven’t had any issues with it at all. I’m not sure about the sand levels. But I also like the cheap sand I used. No issues at all. Thanks!
40-50 gallons. It’s a 20x40 pool 8 or 9 ft deep....the pump is working very well. No issues so far. I’m getting ready to do a 1 year review video. Thanks for watching!
@@gatlan_vinson bought the same filter and sand. It is working great and the pressure is much lower than my fiber glass wrapped filter was, sure that has to do with the fresh sand. Now if I can just get my pool to not be green...thanks for the reply
You could have got the sand off the cap by pouring water on it. I am using the new poly balls rather than the sand. It's 22 bucks for what would be 25 pounds of sand. we'll see how that works. BTW, I think I heard Dolly Parton in the background.
Yes! I should have washed the sand off with water. I had the camera in one hand and was just lazy lol. Thanks for the input on the poly balls. I’ve always wondered how well they work....my wife will be thrilled to know you thought she was Dolly lol.
@@gatlan_vinson , looking at other videos, it appears that using these poly balls is better if you put a layer of sand or pea gravel at the bottom to support the laterals. I quickly figured out why the sand or pea gravel will support the laterals and they won't move much. Without them, all those poly things on top pushes down with great pressure and will break them. I did have a bag of pea gravel and will be filling the bottom with that. I see the reasoning behind keeping sand out of the center shaft but I don't think it'd be the end of the world if that happened. The water goes goes through the sand/poly mix and into the laterals, then up the center pipe. If there is sand, it'd be going up and back into the pool and not the pump.
Appreciate the video. I had no idea where that little clear tube went. Thanks!

thank you so MUCH!!!! i have been online for HOURS looking for a video like this!!! i gave it a like😍😍😍😍😍
