    Thank You..I am an experienced above ground pool home owner. The best filter type is DE.. I ran sand filters after that but the back flushing & possible murky water from filter always leaked into the pool. I am a Believer now in the professional cartridge filters. 75 to 100$ replacement once you bought the 600 to 750$ filter. They are easy to remove, wash out & clean. You would be replace filter as needed.. Plesse look at when you get tired of replacing sand down the road. Love your videos. Keep Up The Good Worm.

      Going to be hard to talk me into one. My friend has this exact pool and sand filter. 5 years later she's still on the original sand and rarely flushes. I believe the key is these ionizers and lack of constant shock and chemicals. Time will tell.

    I like the piping setup with the valve on the discharge side for water features. I set mine up just like that with four unions to remove supply and return for winterizing (cap open ends for dirt dobbers). The return to pump tee valve I used to couple the vacuum hose which worked better than skimmer basket attachment. One more thing I didn't see on yours is the backwash discharge off the multi port valve. Looks great!

    Place is coming along very nicely. With the pool addition your getting ever closer to really being able to relax a bit and enjoy the fruits of your labors. Im a plumber. I dont know where you got your information about a 90 degree elbow reducing pressure but that does not happen. Pressure is pressure, its constant, no matter what fitting you use. Even if you increase or decrease the size of the pipe or fitting, the pressure will remain constant. The volume, GPH or GPM, will only be affected if you decrease pipe size.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Год назад

      Flow I meant, it's the same as a long sweep 90 vs hard 90 on sewage exiting. I use to work in engineering in a papermill and trust me, direction and number of turns does play a role in flow.

    • @richardscarlett7942
      @richardscarlett7942 Год назад

      @@TKCL when solids are present, yes. Strait air or water no. Ive used flow meter gauges (GPM) to actually disprove this. Because I have an issue with PEX fittings being used in plumbing. Half inch PEX fittings are 3/8" ID where here the PEX pipe is .5" ID. This little difference does affect the GPM but really shows up where there are multiple PEX fittings In a complete water plumbing system. The PEX fitting size discrepency is across the whole array of PEX fitting sizes versus their respective PEX pipe ID's

    Ok Andrew.... Thoughts on the overflow... I'd suggest putting on a coupler that would work with your fire hose.... Both of these items wont be used that often, but it would give you an easy way to connect a hose that you could point in any direction away from the pool, and use something that you already have and wouldn't have to purchase something new. ..

    Where I live you would have to have the pump and filter INSIDE the pool fencing, because a child could climb up on the plumbing and jump/fall into the pool and drown.
    Also the outlet valve on the inlet to the pump is not really needed. During heavy rain, the pool level can be lowered by giving the filter an extended back flush. That is all I ever did when I had a pool.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Год назад

      My rules state the equipment must not be reasonably close to the pool that someone could climb the equipment and fall into the pool. I guess it's up to me to know what "reasonably close" is.

    Now that I watched the entire video, I wanted to say it is well done. I would make sure to mount the pump so that the bottom part is shielded from rain. If not, the bottom could rust out and destroy the motor and under housing. I would further protect it by installing a sump pump so in case it rains a lot, it would prevent the water from flooding.

      @The Kelley's Country Life Remember, take it easy. I went 17 yrs without knowing my back was broken (Doctors said it was a herniated disc), and they were very wrong. Several vertebrae were split in half, with a massive amount of pain. The first year spent in and out of a wheelchair. The next 16 yrs in horrific pain, especially with teaching myself how to walk again. Finally saw a neurologist, and now have a rod holding my back together. Sadly, it was too late for my nerve damage to heal, so I'm still stuck with at times debilitating nerve pain, but I can walk relatively pain-free. I feel blessed to be able to walk, period. Please, take care of YOU. 🥰

You may want to install an open outdoor shower next to the pool, so swimmers can wash off sun tan lotion, makeup, hair spray, and all of the other stuff that builds up in pool filters. • @TKCL

      Technically no if you read the plumbing code and the requirements on the can. A few inspectors sure like to see it though. I think a clean and prepped joint is far more important than primer. Heck even says on the can it's not required unless code forces you to. I've never in my life had a joint fail when using the blue stuff.

I do wonder, though, if you would think about trenching the overflow pipe underground with one of those ground level covers that pop up to allow water dispersion like you did on your gutters. Just for a more aesthetically pleasing look. Great info!

    Thank you for posting this. Very informative. We have the same kind of pool (ionization). Yet, we have this yellow filmy stuff down in the drain coming from the skimmer basket. I did find that someone had improperly placed the filter basket back into the part with the clear lid. All kind of bugs, pinstraw, etc., were coating that filter basket. I can't get my water clean. It seems to have sludge in it. It's about to drive me crazy. Any ideas on what to do? Plus, if we install the outlet to prevent dirty water from going into sand filter, does the pump have to run on waste? Another element, is last summer I noticed dirty water occasionly coming into the pool from the pump. Please help.

    • @TKCL

      Dirty water coming into the pool from the pump is a tale tale sign your filter media is bad and needs to be replaced. If you have a sand filter are you back washing often? During spring our pollen is so bad I have to back wash every 2-3 days.

    Man I never knew about the copper silver ionizer! Only thing I may have done different than you in this would be zeolite sand and also prewash. I say that because I have zeolite sand or had in my pool until I took it down last year due to storms messing it up. Im going your route on my next pool setup for sure with ionizer. also look into peroxide instead of the chlorine tabs or shock. I used that in my salt if things went crazy and it really works damn good and the benefit is more oxygen in water vs chemicals

    Sorry for the Late Comment Andrew,
    Camping for 9 days back on Memorial weekend sure threw off my You Tube Schedule....
    Doesn't the Horizontal PVC from the Pool negate the Climbing issue ?
    back in the 80's I had all My pool stuff at the side of the Garage wall and ran the pipe under ground to the pool then up and over the top. 4 in total. 1 set for the Filter and the other for the Solar Heater which was 600 " of 1" Black Polly in 2 300' Loops on the garage roof.

      According to the rule it says "equipment" can't allow climbing access to the pool. I took that as the filter, pump or anything that could be climbed on. The rules as always leave so much to interpretation.

  • @AReed030188
    @AReed030188 Год назад +1

    A pool should never over top the walls, the water level will never get higher than the skimmer itself as it pours out of the hole at the top. I would still have concerns about the foundation but really only in the immediate area of the skimmer. We always packed the used up sand and river rock around the foundation of the skimmer to prevent it from washing away. I would also recommend a ring of pea gravel or lava stone around the base of the pool for the same reason including splashing from inside the pool, as well as weed control.
    Man, sand filters are nice at cleaning but they are a bear to replace the sand. You likely have the equipment to lift it and flip it to pour out the sticky, wet sand. I've had to do it a few times by hand and it is a pain, opening the plug, the top and running a hose to irrigate and break it up, rolling it off the base to its side to continue the process while it still contains 100+ lbs of sand. It's not a fun day.
    Keep an eye out on your connections, even a pin hole in your lines from the skimmer back to the pressure port can inject a lot of air in your line, cause pump cavitation and shoot foam into your pool. Any time you service the threaded connections apply some PTFE pipe dope to seal it up. I've had joints so tight I damn near cracked the plastic but they still leaked through the helical path of the threads.
    Most importantly, enjoy your pool. Have a good one.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Год назад

      My skimmer has a twist lock top with a tiny hole. No way it could overflow faster than a storm can put water in. Especially a hurricane or tropical storm. Plus as you mentioned, I don't want any washout around my pool. We will be adding a lot of rock around the pool area in the upcoming landscaping videos.

    I've been happy with our salt system, but it does lead to other issues. Rust being the most concerning. I'm interested to see how your Ionization System works for y'all. I might have to make the switch someday. Take a picture of the top of your sand filter so you know what the label says. It doesn't take long and the label will be faded to the point that you can't read it and I couldn't remember which setting was "waste" when the time came. Filter, Backwash and Rinse I had down, but which one is Waste? Manual and Paint Pen solved that issue. When I re-plumbed everything last year, I purchased a one of those Craftsman 4-ft x 2-ft Resin Storage Shed's from Lowe's and ran the two lines thru the back wall of it. The top opens and I bought a second prop bar so it is supported on both sides. On extremely hot days, I open the top; but it really doesn't need to be opened. The inside doesn't get any hotter than it is outside even when it's closed and it sure has kept my pump, filter, and salt system components in much better condition than sitting in the sun 12/7/365. Since you think of everything, I suspect you already have a plan for a little roof or some type of cover over your equipment. Hope your back is getting back to normal... I helped my brother-in-law carry a new Blackstone grill up stairs yesterday and now my typical sore spot under left shoulder blade is taunting me...
