what's the max distance that you can set them apart. in other words how long is the cord connecting both beams??

8ft 10in at max tension. You won't hit the full 106in, so assume you'll subtract a couple inches
can you attach the 6 of them together and just make a long one?
No, because the 2 top pieces only have 1 side to connect to.
