Great drummer. His first track with Maiden, Where Eagles Dare, erased any and all doubt.
Still my favourite maiden song!

Technically it would have been Flight of Icarus as that was the lead single from piece of mind.
Any other metal drummer would have said "fuck it" and did "Where Eagles Dare" with a double bass. Nicko considered it cheating and worked his ass off to do that triplet with one foot. Gotta respect his work ethic. Not to mention the guy absolutely loves playing the drums even after all these years and it shows every time he plays.

nico is one of the most drummer-on-the-right-place drummer. his job in IM is perfect, great, absolutely unique and he is just 'one and only'. thats all. every other thoughs are not important. and not just for few moments, he is doing this awesome job more than 30 years!!! what a great guy. big respect.

It looks that way too; but he's not 'any average drummer'. He's a professional, with countless hours of studio recording time (from a time before it was digital). This guy has influenced masses of drummers.
He isn't a solo drummer at all - just puts his flavour to Iron Maidens music and that's all he needs.
What a legend... Make sure, if you haven't already, that you check out Nicko's awesome drumming on Pat Travers 1977 album 'Putting it Straight'. You won't be disappointed:-).

@paokalexthes Basically a gong hangs from strings and has no center hole for mounting on a cymbal stand...a china is like a crash with inverted sides and has a center hole for mounting on a stand. What Nicko hits @ 1:05 is a china, what his is hitting @ 1:10 is a gong. Hope that helps!

They are the McBrain series. They are 2002 but they are hammered lathed differently. Dont quote me thats just what i can posit from seeing them

@1973monsters where? there's not even a double bass pedal. you can see clearly at @1:09 that there's only one bass pedal and one hi hat pedal. and note that he's using a very simple single chain dw5000 bass pedal, not that accelerator series thing

I've suddenly realized that Nicko is a kind of metal Billy Cobham. He's lightning fast, he's got a huge set up (maybe not in this video, but still) and he will always be miles away from all the other drummers because of such a unic style, especcially within the genre.

@BandaDK I think its to make sure the ride doesnt crash. My boom stand loves to slant every so often and when it does, its impossible to crash. I guess its for people who just want a ride, pure and simple.

PAISTE cymbals are in a class of their own...I just bought my first Paiste after 20 years of playing (2002 - 16 crash)......WOW...what an amazing and unique sound compared to the other big cymbal makers. I just ordered the 18" Giant Beat crash and can't wait to add it to my 1960's Ludwig Kit......Paiste all the way from now on!!

He doesn't have a "British" accent because one doesn't exist.
"Great Britian" is 4 countries (England, NORTHERN Ireland, Wales and Scotland),
each with it's own different sections, with their own different accents and dialects.
Nicko has a NORTH LONDON accent.

Er, Clive Burr pulled it off without any problems (the Maiden drummer who originally recorded it) and the song itself doesn't require much, if any, bass drum prowess...
@shadow80194 Probably over a grand. BUT...when you've had a Paiste endorsement deal for nearly 30 years, they give them to you.
that gong is worth more than my drum kit, mics, cymbals and hardware combined.... T.T
