@Imperium Europa stupid comment mate. More and more people are coming to faith in Jesus. Look at Blackie Lawless. Those who follow satan will end up in the same place he will, HELL.
One thing about it: at a stroke EVERY Christian Metal Band calling themselves that can just crawl away, like little babies. Why? Because not one can play like Nicko and Maiden, and… because you won't find one among them who is as good a person as Nicko McBrain. Good on him indeed. Let HIM define what that means. I'd call that righteous.
I swear nicko is one of the only drummers left using power toms. Even Roger Taylor is using short stacked toms. Man they look so cool shame you don’t see them type of kits anymore.
I'm a little on the short side so I have a hard time with big deep drums, but damn I'd love a kit like Nicko's just for fun. I'd be playing tom rolls for days haha
It's because the drum manufacturers, like much of the music industry, wanted to distance themselves from 80's and 90's rock. So now they make pussy kits. Nicko plays on a MAN's kit. Another problem is few sound engineers ever learn how to master them, and few drummers were ever smart enough to learn how to tune them. Another reason why Simon Phillips is a god. Not sure what Roger Taylor is doing, though I don't think I would have necessarily ever put him in the same class as guys back in the day who were using power tom sizes. He probably did because that's mainly all that was available in Queen's early days. His playing style was not a good match with power toms.
@@TheWitchOvAgnesi I agree. Lombardo still plays on big drums. I've got a 10pc Tama Artstar Maple Custom in power tom sizes and 24" kicks. The extra depth and having to place the toms higher make it more difficult to play death/black metal on but man do they sound good. All the guys in those genres are playing dinky size toms but I've heard some kits that still sound big. Prob have a good tech/sound guy.
I expect big toms will make a comeback. And power toms and even concert toms. Lemon Twigs drummer using four big single headed concert toms. Sounded great! Would love to see your Artstars. They are tops!
Cheers mate from Durango Colorado. Nicko, back in high school (UGG) and early college years (1981-1986), I learned every one of your grooves and licks from every Maiden song you every played on, as well as your predecessors grooves and licks. It propelled me greatly in my playing. Though I'm no longer a metal enthusiast, I still crank Maiden now and again. After the dust has settled Maiden is the only metal band I listen to anymore. I still hold on to these early 1980 memories when it was so magical to discover and learn a new Maiden tune on drums. I loved your grooves, Bruce's lyrical content and the driving bass/guitar rhythms (the "gallop"). Those few years I spent studying your playing helped hone me into the drummer I am today. And it got me thru the most dismal social period of my life, High school. I closed myself off to the world and practiced and listened a lot, mostly FM Rock radio station KGB 101.5 outta San Diego. Cheers mate from Durango Colorado. That's when I learned your signature riff... as demonstrated on "the Trooper"... the ol' AND FOUR AND riff, open hi hat/kick on "and of 3" then a crash/ kick on "and of 4" just after snare on four. I called it a "push" back then, b/c you accented the next chord on "and of four". QUESTION: was it the band or an individual in the band that made that a prominent riff for so many of the band's songs? In 1988 I went from studying your playing to studying Dave Weckl. Thanks to a bassist that said to me one day, "Ever listen to fusion music, like Herbie Hancock?" ...the rest is history. PS - I couldn't forget first time I saw your photo... on the inside sleeve of that Pat Travers album, the one where he's standing on the producers desk. I first saw that album sleeve picture in the late 1970's. (as I would look thru my neighbors album collection) Few years later when I discovered Maiden, I thought "wait wasn't that Nicko on that Pat Travers album sleeve?" I still play my ol' GMS from 1992. My Pop died, and Mom said "I got some money, go buy your dream drum kit." So I ordered a GMS kit, every drum custom made; deep rack toms; 8,10,14 suspended floor, rack, cymbals, double AXIS pedal, black pearl rack to match black RIMS system on each tom. I hauled that entire kit with no roadies (haha) to every gig in the 1990's. Holy crap that was some gear to set up. But being old and extremely OVER hauling my shit around, I play the most epic version of that kit now; kick/snare/floor tom, ride, 18" crash and hh. I can fit everything on my cart in one load, and takes me less than 10min to set up. thanks again Brother!

, and I was even invited to play this drum set during their concert in Copenhagen 2018. God Bless and see you soon Nicko, J
2:23 Talk about perfect tone and tuning, absolutely beautiful, no wonder he says "My sweet lord"
it sounds absolutely amazing! Sonor has the mighty and classic sound for Nicko and for Iron Maiden! \m/
Sir, you are an incredible drummer. You should play in Iron Maiden.
I'm new to Iron Maiden. I started buying their music about 4 years ago. I'm 73, and Iron Maiden is now my favorite metal band.
Saw my first Maiden show last night. Amazing kit, both in sound and design, not to mention quality. Beautifully done artwork. Just a masterpiece.
The whole video I was wondering how "Where Eagles Dare" would sound on this kit. Brought a smile to me face, yes it did, when he finished the video with the intro to "Where Eagles Dare"
Oh yes :)
Ah man, no aces high eddie!?! Gorgeous kit tho. Love you Nicko, can't wait to see you fellows on September!
What about that little plushie on the bass drum (i think they call it that) is it just a teddy bear dressed as the trooper eddie?
This is one of the guys who inspired me to play the drums
As someone who used to play, but hasn’t played fro ten years, I found that really interesting and entertaining. Top work 👍😎
Good on ya, Nicko for being born again. And great set up
@Imperium Europa Why be a supreme numbskull?
@Imperium Europa stupid comment mate. More and more people are coming to faith in Jesus. Look at Blackie Lawless. Those who follow satan will end up in the same place he will, HELL.
@@rev6litrej560 "To threaten an atheist with an eternity in hell, is to threaten an adult with no presents from santa"
Just something to think about.
Like in "The Clairvoyant'
One thing about it: at a stroke EVERY Christian Metal Band calling themselves that can just crawl away, like little babies. Why? Because not one can play like Nicko and Maiden, and… because you won't find one among them who is as good a person as Nicko McBrain. Good on him indeed. Let HIM define what that means. I'd call that righteous.
I’ve seen him play live, I’ve always wondered how he’s always stayed so still while playing such hard beats
It ain't a Nicko video if he doesn't start it with: "Ello boys & girls!"
That kit is absolutely gorgeous! It's fitting that such a rocking drummer would have it.
This drum set sounded awesome live. The snare and bass were pounding. A great live performance. A great choice of wood that was picked.
Oh my Sweet Lord! Sonor, the best drums of the world!!!
And one of the best drummers in the world
Not sure about the best drums, one of the Best drummers 🥁🇨🇦🍁
hello, great video my friend...👍👍 👍👍 👍👍 Amazing kit ..thank for sharing guy..
1:52 I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord...
LOVE YOU NICKO!!! Thank you for 37-years of rocking my world with the Maidens! G-d bless you and may you keep on rockin for years to come!
Love you Nicko!!!. Glad your in the fold of all of us fans....As well as Maiden's history..
That snare drum has a lot of ring and decay for a wood snare. I like it :)
Abusive Wife best sounding trashcan lid in music
It probably has that decay and ring because of the really dens wood
Detailed and extended drum waklthrough. Thank Nicko and Sonor!
AGTSP any reason why Nicko has his toms up so high is it preference or because he’s tall
edward waldron all because of his hi hat height
I swear nicko is one of the only drummers left using power toms. Even Roger Taylor is using short stacked toms. Man they look so cool shame you don’t see them type of kits anymore.
He will always be an old school fook :)
He is a gem. Loves his job and always has fun doing it. A good soul.
I'd love to give this talented man a big hug and thank him for all the wonderful music
balls too balls hug ?
Drum technician: So how many toms and cymbals do you want for your set?
Nicko: Yes
All of them
lol
if you think thas alot have a look at terry bozzio's drum set that man went wild for literally everything
I know bro that kit is at least 100.000 my sonar's are 20.000 I have five grand just pasties the company he's got it is awesome kit
Impeccable tuning
6:19 do they place him there in his seat, build the set around him - play the gig - remove the set and let him go home? :)
(as I would look thru my neighbors album collection) Few years later when I discovered Maiden, I thought "wait wasn't that Nicko on that Pat Travers album sleeve?"
I still play my ol' GMS from 1992.
Love everything about him especially being a single bass drummer and a man of faith
This video was about an hour too short.
