The airwing's successful nine month deployment conducting combat operations, maritime security operations, and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th fleet areas of responsibility ended in the arms of family and friends during a jubilant ceremony.

Hope all pilots had someone there to welcome them home.
A few years back there was a video on here wher all but one pilot had someone there to welcome them home.
Right at the end there was a pilot walking off by him self then camera panned back to where the crowd was

The planes on a carrier air wing come home for the..."off season"? Sorry, I'm just learning about all of this. That's really fascinating, never thought about that. Does the carrier just sit in dock without its air wing while it gets a new crew and gets refurbished and re-stocked and all?
Todd is correct, usually the airwing departs to its base of operations, a day or two before, then the ship goes to its homeport. It does not get a new crew, some crew will leave for various reason, ie separation from the service, transfer, etc and it will receive replacements

effemess, as a former active duty Marine Corps fighter pilot that flew F4’s in Vietnam in the mid to late 60’s I can attest to the tenacity of ALL “tail hookers” or Naval Aviators, both Navy and Marine Corps. We were/are all Real Men that ooze Testosterone. SEMPER-FI BROTHERS AND SISTERS, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE! May your aim be true, your fuel plenty and a “whale” nearby if needed.
