I cannot imagine what Goliath was going through in this whole scene. He lived in late 10th century Scotland with a large clan, became their leader and was in love with his mate, only for him to lose most of his clan, including him thinking his mate was dead, because their one human ally betrayed them, along with his mate, then he and the remaining clan he had are cast to be statues until the castle is above the clouds, which wouldn't happen until 1,000 years later. Then he wakes up, finds out his mate was actually alive, totally rejoiced, but later learns that Xanatos, who brought he and his clan awake, lied to and manipulated them and learns of his mate's betrayal to him and their clan. The pure heartache and devastation must be overwhelming. Stuff like this is why Gargoyles is one of my top 5 favourite shows.
Not to mention he lost almost all of his clan in just one night with getting the chance of saying goodbye or even getting the time to grief afterwards😢

Not to defend Demona but, she did choose the right with Macbeth. It was Macbeth’s hesitation to betray the Gargoyles( A king must consider his options) that drove Demona down the path that humanity is evil once again. Goliath didn’t even try to understand why Demona feels this way.

Sometimes I wish Demona wasn't a villain. She has been consumed with hatred and bitterness for a thousand years she's lost sight of the Gargoyle way. Her hatred for humans is really her lashing out because her guilt and pain for what happened to her clan. I think she would have been a good addition to the Manhattan Clan and not be so alone like she had been for 1,000 years.
Her hatred stemmed from her being unable to accept any slight to her and her kind. She wanted a life where Gargoyles weren't discriminated against. Its not a horrible goal. The issue arises that while Goliath is patient enough to endure the insults, let the humans realize their mistakes and change, cause he knows they can, Demona isn't. Demona hasn't lost sight of the Gargoyle way, she is the utmost extreme end of it. Protect Gargoyles at all costs. She just went to far into it. Protecting Gargoyles from threats that weren't there. Her plan failing only made her fundamental flaw worse. It gave her an excuse, a crutch, to blame her actions and future actions on.
@smugreptile6695 do you even know what the Gargoyle way is? Here are some words to remember from what Hudson said: "A Gargoyle can no longer protect the castle then breathing the air" what does Demona have to think about her way and not the way Goliath found out when he saw his brother came back to life as a cyborg Gargoyle called Coldstone
@@goliathgar4985 If you are gonna quote something from the show to prove a point, at least quote it right man. Another thing, Hudson sided with Elisa to move from the castle to the clock tower. The Gargoyle way isnt just "Protect the castle". A gargoyle's nature is to protect in general. Their home, their friends, their loved ones. Demona repeatedly makes plans that would "save" the gargoyles from humans. Most notably her plan with the cleaning agent and the praying gargoyle. Note, I am not defending Demona here. Simply explaining how I see her character. She is evil, no question.
1:22 " DON'T SAY THAT"! Demona. When she said that to Goliath, deep down she knows that Goliath had a very good point. After thousand years alone, Truth hurts or She can't handle the truth
Reminds me of my mental health crisis in my younger days. Im not schizophrenic, im just paranoid. "Wait, my obsessions are sick, maybe I'm a psych- NO! I SANE, I'M TOTALLY SANE! I CAN'T LOSE MY SENSE OF REALITY I CAN'T!" While deep inside I'm like "I DON'T WANNA BE CAGED IN ASYLUM😥"
Demona may be the villain, but her hate and frustration is understandable. That’s what makes her a great villain because she’s a three-dimensional character.
And here's the list: the death of her clan (castle Wyvern and the last bit of Scotland gargoyles), betrayal, lies, no remorse, no responsibility and finally misuse of magic
All the anger she has for the humans is misplace because deep down she’s angry at herself even though she will never admit it was her fault . But yes she is an extraordinary villain
Goliath and Demona both of reasonable and truthful points of view. Goliath is totally right that "there is good and evil in all of us, human and gargoyle alike". Basically saying, NO ONE is perfect, but that doesn't mean evil out ways the goodness in people or creatures. But Demona point of view, is "somewhat" understandable. She is only doing this out of fear, and pain from losing her clan all those years ago. So pointing the claw (if you will), at the humans for killing them off, she over the years; saw only the bitter evil side of humans then the caring nature side. Which led her to want to take harsh cruel revenge on humans. Seeking a higher power over time, she became consumed in by her hatred towards humans and that's all she came to know and stride for. Quite sad, if you think about it.
I wouldn't even say that. Demona is her own worst enemy. Demona's hatred of humans is without a doubt sincere, but it was radicalized by her own guilt and self loathing. It's why Demona will never come to terms with what she's done, and will always blame everything either on Goliath or on humanity. Because it would mean coming to terms with what she's done, and that's something she can't bring herself to do, face the responsibility that she played a role in her clan's destruction
@@OmegaPictures318 You're absolutely right, Demona can't bring Herself to come to terms with Her own culpability in all the suffering and hardship She's undergone throughout the centuries, constantly being pursued by numerous Hunters because of the cycle of Vengeance SHE initiated when She clawed and permanently scarred Gillecomegain, The Original Hunter's face when He was a young Boy, and as you mentioned, the loss of Her Clan when She impulsively decided to betray Macbeth and Clan Moray by allying Herself with King Duncan/ The Second Hunter's Son Canmore
@@texasgent4694 Yes. She also doesn't seem to realize (Or perhaps is in deliberate denial) that she does indeed share some of the blame for her clan being massacred. If it weren't for her hand in things, the betrayal and all that followed it would never have happened, and she failed to take into account how bloodthirsty and merciless Hakon was before suggesting that the Captain ally with him; While the Captain could be more or less trusted to not harm the gargoyles (He had no personal animosity towards them, and had in fact been an advocate on their behalf to the Princess), the same definitely couldn't be said of Hakon. Demona should have realized that.
I love this scene and will narrow it down to ONE specific scene. Goliath in his moment had the chance to save one. He saved Elisa. I wondered if Demona did see how he swooped down and choose the human over her? It’s interesting Goliath had to do the right thing and that was save the one who was loyal and protecting him.
While he's always chose the humans over her. And she has wings to fly. Plus if she wasn't firing such a powerful gun in the first place she wouldn't of created the damage to cause her to fall. So while it's a good scene it still has some whole with the setup.
I'm pretty sure she did know that Goliath chose to save "the human" over her. It was what she perceived as the final betrayal from Goliath that she couldn't take and accept. From then on, she no longer attempted to "save" him and try to covert him over to her side but saw him as yet another nemesis that she needed to destroy and obliterate every piece of soul of. He rejected her, despite that doing so destroyed him, and she couldn't accept the reasons why he rejected her. Knowing that he and Eliza did develop true feelings for each other over time and how close they became where Eliza is his "mate" in all but ceremony only further destroyed her. Eliza before that was nothing more than just one of many humans she needed to wipe out and destroy. But knowing that Goliath loved Eliza rather than her, her vendetta against Eliza escalated to personal. She took a special interest in wanting Eliza out of the way. She probably conflated Eliza as the one that "soiled" and "corrupted" Goliath into turning against her, even though Eliza had nothing to do with Goliath renouncing his relationship with his former mate and life partner. Puck notices that deep down she does want Goliath back for herself and sees Eliza as the one in her way of achieving that. Puck jeers at her for it but sharply points out the obvious that even if Demona did manage to kill Eliza, doing so would not bring Goliath back to her. Puck is a charming asshole but he usually speaks the truth because brutal truth hurts anyone to hear. And he probably figured and was right Demona would shrug him off and not take it to heart.
@ you pretty much summed up everything in detail and depth to demona’s chacter and downfall. I meant if she actually saw it as pieces of building was striking her. Goliath saw her as he wasn’t being pummeled to death by flying debri. The scene doesn’t show it but i think she probably glimpse it as Goliath goes to Eliza’s direction instead of hers. In this scene however they don’t have romantic feelings. You pretty much captured the whole essence demonas hatred for Eliza. But I mean this scene. Over all Goliath and Eliza were just FRIENDS. He had a romantic relationship with demons and obviously still Did when he thought she died. I think it was a mixture of loyalty to Eliza for saving him Before. And because he has to protect the weaker humans which drove him to choose Eliza and a bit of a screw you demona for betraying their clan. He wasn’t over her but his actions show how much he was so bounded by his instincts and rules. Where demona never had it. I definitely agree with everyone you did say though. Just wish it was shown but i guess i will have to assume she did see it
God this show was incredible. Writing, voice acting, animation, drama… I definitely need to go back and watch this show again, that was some high-quality TV as a kid.
Yet she trusted him enough to make a deal and caused the destruction of the Wyvern Clan. Demona can make excuses all she wants. It doesn't change the fact that Goliath is right. What happened all those centuries ago was her fault because she couldn't let go of her hatred towards humanity.
Demona’s hatred is understandable but everything she’s done up to this point makes her without a doubt a villain on top of that she more or less admitted to practically sentencing the entire clan Wyvern to death I mean 🤷♂️
If they ever brought back Gargoyles, I hope they’d keep the graphics the same and get as many as the same voice actors. Some things are best left unchanged
Demona is such a tragic character. She was left behind for 1000 years thinking she would never see the love of her life again. Yes, it was partly her fault, but it is understandably made her hard and bitter. Then by the time the spell is broken, she's no longer compatible. She also believed for 1000 years that her only egg with Goliath was destroyed.
She was so bitter to accept she made a mistake and had her clan killed. Then she ATTEMPTS TO KILL HER HUSBAND… RUNS OFF WITH HIS CLONE and is pissed when Goliath Moves on and cares for Elisa and the other humans?
And as far as i remember, one of Oberons Children, the Puck, is voiced by Brent Spiner (Data), Queen Titania is voiced by Kate Mulgrew (Cpt. Janeway) and the Cyborg Coldstone is voiced by Michael Dorn (Worf)
@@alexschlotterstein118 Dorn was one of the Olympians also. Avery Brooks [Captain Ben Sisko] was the Easter Island Sentinel. The voice actor that was the Rura Penthe warden in Star Trek VI was Odin. The actor that gave Star Trek the Federation ambassador in Star Trek V, Chancellor Gorkon in Star Trek VI, and Gul Madred in a TNG 2-parter... he turns up as the archmage with the stolen Phoenix Gate. Paul Winfield (Captain Terrell, Star Trek II) recurs as Hudson's friend Jeffrey. "Uhura" was voicing a relative of Elisa's. I think if the show hadn't been summarily dispatched by Disney's 65-episode attention span... You probably get Patrick Stewart, Robert Picardo, Tim Russ, Colm Meaney.... This show was heavy on Star Trek connection.
There is a new comic being co created by the og creator coming in december! Its not a show sadly, but who knows. If the comic and neca figure line do super well, maybe the Gargoyles will return to the animated realm.
Demona blamed humanity for her clans massacre, but she refused to take responsibility for the part she played in it. The captain failed to stop the Vikings from killing the gargoyles, but she conspired with them as well. She's a coward who can’t take responsibility for her actions.
This comment section is definitely passing the vibe check. Amazing analysis on all fronts! But we are missing Elisa Maza appreciation. True loyalty at its finest. Tackling a gargoyle to defend someone you hardly know yet you strongly believe in. She represents the true human kindness in this situation. Something I really love about this show is how it deals with the nature of good and evil. It shows that even the bravest of Gargoyles and humans can step towards the dark and never return. But also how they can come back. Surprisingly, Xanatos managed to come back while Demona stayed in the dark.
Demona has been alive and alone for so many centuries that the isolation from getting close to anyone has made her cold, hate everything and everyone, mistrust with nothing left but anger. Even being with Goliath again after a millennium didn't make her happy. Even that wasn't enough for her.

It's Demona's short coming. She knows she's guilty, but she's lied to herself for so many years because she's afraid to come to terms with the role she played
I actually started watching the series when Toon Disney when in its heyday! And I thought it was so cool, that they cast alot of "Star Trek" veterans do various roles, the nods to Shakespeare, Camelot, and various types of mythology, and the fact that the relationship between Goliath and Elisa felt very much like "Beauty and the Beast" with a bit of twist!
"This path you walk, vengeance, you will find no peace" -Kratos, God of War 2018. This quote describes perfectly the path of Demona on revenge against humanity.
Despite her villain status, I've always absolutely adored how Demona was written. She's an entirely sympathetic character, but the show very clearly paints her actions as horrendous and misguided, not as someone to be praised or cheered on, but as someone for whom your heart aches for. She's a character lost in all her hatred and misery and there's a part of you deep down that wishes she could let go and heal. But there are people who refuse to change, and she's one of them. It also emphasizes the moments where she acts selflessly. The episode where she finds out that Angela is her daughter and fights Thailog to her presumed death really shows that despite all the atrocities she commits, there's still love in her heart.
thats the problem though, she literally CANT die...not so long as McBeth lives as well, and that, sadly, has clouded her thinking. a thousand years of being alone...
@@darkclawgreatonenas See that was weird to me, I don’t know why Goliath and Angela thought she died when only MacBeth can kill her (and vice versa). Goliath should have told Angela she’d see her again.

To allow the villain to make a fair point and see the hero struggle with his morals to the point of tears is beautiful for any story, let alone a kid's show. Bravo to all involved.
I've loved this series ever since I first saw it on TV, but it never really clicked for me until now that Xanatos lusted after immortality and Demona was effectively immortal, and that's what drew him to her.
Goliath lost Demonas love after this. If there us a reboot or some what continued season after the Clan was welcomed with open arms in New York he'll love Elisa (if it can work)
@shogun harlem only to show her past self the future that awaits her clan. She lived for centuries with her piece and while Goliath had his away for years while in stone sleep. But her love is gone for good cause she has hatred and even if Angela wants her to be good she needs to let go of her evil to be forgiven from the rest of the clan, but she is either too far gone to be saved if she wanted to reform
Demona: You trusted me, once... You *loved* me, once... Me: And now you're shooting him with a *ROCKET LAUNCHER.* Kind of hard to trust someone doing that, you know.
She was such a great character, why they burdened her to be the villain is a shame. I still hope she finds her way into the light and gets her happy ever after.
she cant, and i cant deny that our race is a cruel one either...ive been cruel, its a cruel world. maybe we do all deserve to die, but, maybe...we could be better too...
Demona is a extraordinary villain and awesomeness, but deep down her anger and pain and hate and her frustration is very understandable, she never admitted that it was her own fault, I for one do not blame her
I think what is the most tragic of the fall of Goliath’s clan fall isn’t the fact that he didn’t see the Vikings trick to lure them away out in the sun. Not the fact that all of his brothers and sisters in arms are all gone, nor the fact that the only human ally he had betrayed him. But it was the person he shared everything with, and this other dark, twisted hatred she kept from all of her clan, even him. That is I think what hurts Goliath the most, is that the danger never was outside his castle. But inside. It’s always the people closest to you that hurt you the most…
Whether or not Demona didn't do all those things that led her to that point she would have betrayed Goliath either way. She has to much hatred and anger towards the humans. Even before the Wyvern massacre.
Marina at her best. As kind and compassionate as she was on Star Trek TNG as Counsellor Troi, she could pull off the vindictive and bitter lines Demona delivered. This is a truly complex character. An extremist in every sense of the word. The suffering that she had endured in secret at the hands of the archmage set her on this path, giving her a very biased opinion of humans only fueled further by the princess and her misjudgment of Goliath and his clan. She thinks that she is justified in being as callous and cruel as she sees humans and hypocritically preaches how superior a species gargoyles are. She doesn't believe that gargoyles and humans can coexist based upon her own experiences which are all understandable. But she is taking that anger and revenge against those long dead and extending it to the modern day, evolving into megalomania and prejudice. I think she is living proof of Harvey Dent's words in the dark Knight: you can either die a hero, we can have a long out to see yourself become the villain. Sadly, Demona has fallen into that pit. Even refusing to accept responsibility for what happened. And she has had centuries to find humility. A heart that cold and aged over 1000 years could be the only kind of heart that would immediately turn on Goliath after that pause to her question. A very complex and memorable antagonist.
They needed more seasons for this show. It was a great series and should have lasted longer with a better conclusion and more episodes of Coldstone and the other Gargoyles from around the world. The voice actors were so perfect that those who did the casting were real experts compared to today.

Then he wakes up, finds out his mate was actually alive, totally rejoiced, but later learns that Xanatos, who brought he and his clan awake, lied to and manipulated them and learns of his mate's betrayal to him and their clan.
The pure heartache and devastation must be overwhelming.

I really wish she had turned out differently too😞
@smugreptile6695 do you even know what the Gargoyle way is?

Demona may be the villain, but her hate and frustration is understandable. That’s what makes her a great villain because she’s a three-dimensional character.
It's understandable. It just isn't justifiable.
@@loneblade9447 darn straight, everything is her own fault and won’t admit it to herself
And she’s thick
Hmm 🤔 never thought of it that way.
Demona reminds me of Phaeton from EXO-Squad.
Man I miss gargoyles, I still love the show after all these years. I wish they'd bring it back because shows these days aren't the same.
@@Aaron_Heininger Gargoyles can't fly, they glide.
@@ThePrincessCHsame difference
He had a romantic relationship with demons and obviously still
Did when he thought she died.
I think it was a mixture of loyalty to Eliza for saving him
Before. And because he has to protect the weaker humans which drove him to choose Eliza and a bit of a screw you demona for betraying their clan. He wasn’t over her but his actions show how much he was so bounded by his instincts and rules. Where demona never had it.

“... but I didn’t trust him, I stayed alive, because I don’t trust anyone ... ”
So true, thank you 🙏 for reminding me that ...

Demona kind of lets the anger get the best of her, yes?
Demona going full magneto 😂
Poor Goliath - he really did love Demona, or at least the gargoyle she USED to be 😢
Demona: IS ALL THE HUMANS' FAULT! I mean, yeah, I told the attackers a tip, but IS THEIR FAULT!
Basically Disney tmnt
She crazy
They needed more seasons for this show. It was a great series and should have lasted longer with a better conclusion and more episodes of Coldstone and the other Gargoyles from around the world.
The voice actors were so perfect that those who did the casting were real experts compared to today.
I grew up with this show, I put it up there as one of the best of my childhood along Batman TAS, X-Men TAS and so on, but I just realized that Xanatos got hit in the back of the head by a huge chunk of stone and was perfectly fine. What the hell? 🤣
Let's be honest. It only takes the right introduction, and new Yorkers would be fascinated by gargoyles than fearful of them.
God entrusted his Shepards to protect all, not just the initiated
I am surprised Demona doesn’t frame Goliath just to take control of his clan
Oh wow I know his voice! That guy is awesome- didn’t know he did this
1:23 why not? You betrayed both the humans that goliath was protecting and your race.
Demona's point of view about Humanity is Reflective and True.
Well, because she hate all the humans, so she Can revenge and Goliath, Eliza And the Clan
You should spend more time with people.
@Gengonglike Arbukle That depends. You're also personally responsible for how you deal with your emotions. So don't be surprised people act certain ways towards you because you might behaving harshly towards even those who did nothing to you. Hate makes a lot of things. Too bad blind is one of them.
@@leon4000 That may be so but I don't blame Demona for saying those words about humanity because compare to her I too have problems with the world as well
@@rachelgalvan6247 Let's not forget that she made pretty bad decisions that brought certain things about to have it come down on her. And all because her hatred effed her up.
I really do wish at times that I had been around when this show was out. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to cuz it stopped airing by the time I was born.
Disney +
You can watch it now thankfully and so many other shows
I surprised they never did a Gargoyles movie back then..
It's the second time that Goliath and Elisa had saved each other's lives.
Poor Goliath, the mate he found is not the mate he lost, or loved. It must had been so painful for him
*sees Demona falling*
Girl, you have wings! FLY!!!!
The falling stones kept hitting her wings- the animators knew what they were doing there, it’s no oversight
1:53 Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
If they do go through with a live action movie or series, I hope they do this show justice.
