Premier League Stadiums Then and Now (NEW VERSION): ruclips.net/video/twyyZLdyETM/видео.html
There were cars in most of the before pictures, modern cars were not around in the early 1900's, come on...
That’s not what the Amex looks like now 😂
All the seats are filled in
A lot of the before pictures were taken in the 1990s not the early 1900s
Hi tin foil chef. How's hermitcraft?
Please help me get to the club. I'm very good
In Greece, stadiums are stuck to "Then" status.
Και πιο πριν από το τότε σαν ερείπια είναι τα δικά μας
για να γινουμε ρομπα????
Its better to keep them as they are until you have a project and the money for it. in Turkey they built awful stadiums instead. Cheap and outdated.
There are much more important things to do in greece
😄😄😄
I'm from South America so I'm sure you folks from Europe may have a different point of view: Some of those old grounds looked great! Was it really necessary to move to new stadiums or completely reconstruct them? They look like your regular "Ronald Mc Donald Colloseums" from the States now. Part of what makes English football important was the fact that those stadiums had a very distinctive architecture and decades of history.
With some stadiums, it was a case of the facilities being simply too old, they were just falling apart or weren't up to standard any more. Wembley was iconic and historic, but it had to be changed because it was so old.
Plus it's all the money in football today. The players, businessmen, delegates etc. are expecting a first class experience.
Some of the old stadiums have the best atmosphere for example Fratton Park, Portsmouth or Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace. But its impossible to tell if its just because of an old style stadium or because the fans are genuinely local supporters proud of their town. I think its a mixture of both.
You are absolutely right, look at white heart lane, highbury, maine road and more.
Those were the stadiums that you came for as a football fan from europe, luckely theres still old trafford, stamford bridge and many more.
Normaal07schoonebeek And when today's kids are older, they'll be talking about the new White Hart Lane, Emirates etc. with the same nostalgia.
Especially if they become kinda pointless with TV money by then.
It's all money today, new stadiums fit more private boxes and host office space exc.
And in many cases it's cheaper to move out of a old stadium and into a new one rather then renovation of an old stadium. Renovation in many cases is to difficult and expensive.
In some cases you have clubs who moved out of the old stadium and old neighbourhood and now play miles away from the original location in some rural area. (Bolton).
Then you have clubs that moved stadiums but managed to stay in the same general neighbourhood (Arsenal, Cardiff).
Then you have Tottenham, they couldn't find any land to build on in North London, so they decided to rebuild a new stadium on the same land as the previous stadium, while temporary playing at Wembley for the mean time.
You have many other clubs looking to build new stadiums or renovate the old stadiums. Teams like Chelsea, QPR, or Crystal Palace find it difficult to find any available near by land to build on in London and might only have the option of renovations.
I would love it if EA added classic stadiums like Highbury, Maine Road, Boleyn Ground and many others into Fifa. And maybe you could choose which ground to play in with that team in Career Mode

TFC could you make one video like this but with spanish League????
Yes, I will ;)
Anyone else find this depressing? Used have grounds with lots of character in communities then a bunch of these are boring modern stadiums at the edge of town etc.

I'm a Chelsea fan and I've gotta be honest I've never realised how nice arsenal stadium is
It’s nice, one of the best in the country. But it has zero history, which is why it’s nowhere near iconic stadia like Old Trafford, Anfield. Highbury was a football stadium. The Emirates is a cinema.

Not an Arsenal fan but what a shame that Highbury is gone. Beautiful and historic stadium.
My, do I miss Maine Road such good times. Even in league 2 there were still positive vibes in fans 😥☺️
Ahhh, the Kippax!!! Great days, loved maine road....
Great to see Dean Court as it was in 1910. My Great Grandfather was the AFC Bournemouth (then Boscombe) goalkeeper for the first ever game at that venue.
Interesting
shame really most of the old clubs look better in a way they have more character. the new stadiums look abit boring with scaffolds on the outside
Great vid
Old stadia looked and FELT better, or more interesting I should say. Built much like an old family house, where you adjust to the new needs, building and adding step by step. They had a human character and of course, they produced extremely better atmosphere. Proper HOME GROUNDS.
Modern grounds are more suited to provide comfort, safety and maximize profit but are completely soulless. Or perhaps its the fans that have become different. Or both.
mskidi bit of both mate, the old fans die with the old grounds, I’m a derby fan and it hasn’t been the same since we left the baseball ground
Clubs lose so much of their identity when they move to these boring bowl shaped grounds that all look the same.
u want them to shape them like octagons and triangles
mt573234 Yep they're all practically the same. Even naming the stadiums like Bet 365. Money has wrecked the game completely
Gary Garratt West Brom are adding safe seating

Turf moor really hasn’t changed a lot, and I’m happy about that, still got that old feel about it, UTC!!

Part of the reason why its the best atmosphere in the league now.

dead right.loved the old grounds.just calling them stadiums instead of grounds sums it up for me.all they are now are soulless money machines.
And They were architecturally interesting.
some new ones still have a great atmosphere, also it improved the poor sight lines
Thank you for good video! Stadiums are upgrading!
Nice video!
3:34 Stoke's groundskeeper hasn't had a day off in 40 years, grass is always perfect

Stoke first picture, grass is pretty cool 👍🏻
It’s a shame that they’re going down!!!!
Should be perfect. The ball never comes in contact with it.
Let me introduce you to turf Moore😂
Likeablechuck 1 Turt moor is alright
am I the only one who finds Anfield the same
Zion Fernandes yes
Zion Fernandes only changed one side of the stadium for more seating... I think it looks much better!
Zion Fernandes you are not the only one
The before picture was before the Anfield Road end was done but after the Kop was revamped, so two sides have changes in the pics. This would date the picture to between 1994 and 1998.
Shame this video didn't show what Anfield looked like more than 20 years ago.
Really nice
I like most of the former stadiums more than the new ones, because they had no commercial names and were settled in the middel of the town. In my opinion, the ambiance of the stadiums nowadays has decreased. I not only notice this in England, but also in other countries.
Agreed
Agreed. all the new ones looks so generic.
@@jb0609 eh, the new ones all have some sort of style to them but the old ones look classic. depends on which u like
Old ones are more artistic, beatiful architecture, way more classic. I absolutely hate moder stadiums.
So kind of Manchester city to have all their fans in their stadium picture on 2:40

This video had a lot of potential, but trash music, misleading dates, and too many factually incorrect comparisons. I'm out.
What was factually incorrect?
@@moh4509 It's incorrect because some of the stadiums are not the same stadium, they're new ones in different locations.
I get it
Exactly...and when is "Then"? Some of them have pictures from the 1800's and some, Anfield and Old Trafford being two that spring to mind are from the 1990's. In all a rubbish video made in about 8 minutes by googling the first picture they could find for each stadium
You sound like you're off dragons den
The first time I went to Stamford Bridge was in the 1980s and my lasting memory was of the Reliant Robin's behind the goal in front of the shed end with the wind howling and them shaking let hell, it must have been some experience watching a game sat in one of those!!!
The old stadiums were looking so nice the new ones like ufo)
No wonder tottenhams form is so bad if there playing in that. 😂

Nice study and congratulations
Boleyn ground is and will always be superior to the London stadium
Classic example of a ground which didn't need replacing.
Boleyn and Highfield Road are grounds that should of never been replaced.
I went there - it was a hole!
As a Spurs fan I have been to both - new stadium does not even have 10% of the atmosphere of the Hammers great old ground - terrible shame
I went there 5 times and it usually had a good proper football atmosphere, though there were a few corners where the view wasn't brilliant, not the only old London ground for that to be the case. Does the size of the London Stadium, and perhaps the distance from the stands to the pitch, make it difficult to generate an atmosphere?
Like the old baseball parks in the US, the old football grounds in the UK had great character.
Nice
Great to see the comparisons
I would also like to have seen the old vs new record attendances and/or capacities at each of the respective venues.
But enjoyed all the same....
The Emirates is an amazing stadium.
Highbury not the same as the Emirates
Do you mean fans arent as close to pitch as they were at Highbury?
Alan Doherty no he means they are different stadiums
Highbury was better in my opinion ...
well clearly both stadiums are different.
He means arsenal where more successful in highbury
Woww amazing
Good old Highbury those were the days nice vid.
How is this a 'then and now' when half of them are not the same stadium!
I missed Upton Park and Highbury :(
I love this
Now I know why the FIFA 17 commentator says Stamford Bridge used to be a Greyhound track!
3:18 damn the saints’ old stadium was tiny
noticed mourinho's bus on the chelsea pic ;) lol
Haha the Turf Moor photos, love how they just added more colour saturation and vibrance on the newer photo :D
Nice video. Some development, but Goodison is pretty much the same :)
Hope Goodison doesn't go, would like to finally win a derby )=
The Old Goodison (Pre 1969) was just beautiful. The Only thing that's the same is the bodies of The Bullens Road And Gladwys Street Stands. Changed A lot actually.
An interesting topic, but three thoughts:
1) Shouldn't the title be 'Premier League clubs and their stadiums in the past' - I'd be quite interested to see the flats on Highbury or the Dell but these weren't shown.
2) You haven't used the latest photos of some stadia - Etihad and Stoke have been upgraded recently.
3) As some have mentioned, the time of the 'old' photo isn't mentioned and in some cases it really wasn't from very long ago.
Still if you do it again for next season you won't need to worry about the latest picture of the Stoke ground.
O Dumper iya bro ana setuju, udah ketangkap korupsi malah nabrak tiang wkwkwk
Cok iyi
you got the date of St James' Park wrong...it was used as a football ground in 1880 for Newcastle Rangers and earlier in the 1860s for Stanley cricket club...the date of its original opening is unknown but sometime after 1844.
Chelsea were very shortsighted, All that space and a great opportunity to increase capacity but they decided to build a hotel instead.
How tottenham gonna play with that crane on the way.....
yeah lol
I'm a spurs fan ........... worrying,
His name's Kane
Reece Chambers How old are you 2? Can't you not see the crane

Stupid how an historical Stadium like Highbury got miserably wasted
It's amazing looking back at how it was in yesteryear.
Highbury doesn't look like the emirates. Highbury now funnily enough, looks like blocks of flats.
Lewis Rankin will they ever settle down and find a home other than Woolwich. If Man City are nicknamed the citizens they should be called the tourists.
Highbury did not completely demolished. The art deco wall still there today.
4:13 😂
😂
Wow didn't know they had coloured photographs in the early 1900's. Learn something new every day.
Fun fact Evertons one stand (away end ) is still the same from when it was built in the 1800s :-)
Those old stadia were so much better.
In many ways, atmosphere at a lot of clubs gets dropped off when they leave an older more terraced ground etc. But there still has to come a point when you modernise and try to adapt, otherwise the only stadiums your left with are rusty old concrete slabs that can barely rival the average polish sides grounds.
Palace stadium has barely changed at all!
So sad to see White Hart Lane go.
True but at least it will feel like home i guess

Hey TFC guys!
Out of curiosity, is it possible to edit a video after publishing it and update the frames of spurs stadium?
Cracking video what’s the music called that’s used in it please folks?
Hmm, I think a better job could have been made on these to be honest. It would have been better if you could find a picture of each club's ground at the same point in history, say 1980 for example. The comparisons would be much more interesting
StepIntoTomorrow Agree. Plus, there were examples where the club’s stadia had changed physical location, and others where there had obviously been a significant facelift renovation (personally find the latter more interesting) and more aligned to the tag lines of THEN versus NOW
Yeah its biased alright. Showing Everton from 1890 odd and Old Trafford with one terrace not there. Suppose architecture has gone a long way backwards in understanding football atmosphere. Same songs sung now and same atmosphere for those songs.
The Everton Photo was from the 1930s. The 1892 Thing is when it was built. The First proper football ground In England.
Probably harder to do than you think. Would make for an excellent video though.

Come on. By the late 80s/early 90s Stamford Bridge was a crumbling heap.
Paul Carney...yeah mate. I went there with Luton in the 80’s and the away end was miles from the pitch. The atmosphere wasn’t great because it was so exposed. Maybe I should add Chelsea to the list? It's a fabulous stadium
@@karenterry5970 it's a great ground inside! Take Ashley and his sports direct adverts out and it's a wow ground to walk into on a sunny day
I beg to differ Sir. St James' Park is the most asymmetric stadium ( only 3 quarters finished ) followed by Old Trafford (And I am United Fan).
@@karenterry5970
As a Guy who has attended thousands of games since 1962 let me say that this is deceptive. Perfect example is West Ham, because if you look at this without knowing ,you would think the current ground is better but 98% of Hammers fans would have preferred the smaller, intense Bearpit that was Upton Park.
Just look at the old atmosperes , especially, when you could stand and there is little comparison to the bland nature of some of these ASS ( All-Seater Stadiums).
Ironically the exception will be Spurs who are in their same road, literally, next door and will have a 17,000 Home End worthy of the name.
The days when chelsea used to have more cars parked behind the goal than spectators!
at least they could make a quick exit when the oppositions 3rd goal went in

Should be illegal for clubs to destroy and leave their former gounds. I hate seeing all the culture and history ghost away like that
RonnyDonny Then keep the old one. Upton Park was special, the Olympic Stadium is without any character at all
A lot of it boils down to the need to modernise. Quite a few of these old grounds simply cannot easily accommodate the requirements of the Taylor report with the available space, or they are becoming too costly to maintain
Luke Johnson i wish england Will be great again
RonnyDonny13 cause we’ve got permission and bought the land.........
Arsenal were the only club to preserve their former home into a sort of memorial, owing to the fact two of the stands were listed buildings, they were converted into apartments with the two end stands demolished and the pitch itself turned into a giant courtyard, where the centre spot was now has a plaque on it which was a very nice touch.
The Stamford Bridge , The Anfield Road and The Etihad Stadium are the best Arena's in the Premier League
Stamford bridge anfield and old trafford kept their traditional stadium unlike the other 3 from big 6 lol
Great video. Thank you.
I do feel I should advise you that The Hawthorns capacity is 28003, not 26500.
