I love watching Brad trying to get into Lex's head, give it up brother theres no way of fittin into her head, its magical, mystical and fantastical...I love it...peace
They seem to be trying to understand where each other is coming from and using music as their insight so God blessem. But you are right getting into her head may be a mistake.
Doobie Brothers have had several iterations over the years, but this is still my all time favorite of theirs. And yes, the name Doobie comes from their predilection for doobies.
Yes, this is one of my favorites. I like the Michael McDonald version the best overall but they had great music in all their iterations. I just really appreciate Michael McDonald's singing and playing even more than I did back then.
Predilection, hahahahah! So that's what I have, huh how bout that. Gonna pay my doctor a visit for my bad case of Predilection and get my doobie card asap.
This is on the mellow side for the Doobies. They can also really rock out. A couple of older ones that should have you moving are Long Train Runnin' and China Grove.
That's a great phrase "casual energy" sounds like a great name for a laid back band. Cleveland, are you ready to ROOCK! This band has come all the way down from an acid trip just to play for you. Would you please welcome CASUAL ENERGY! T- shirts in the lobby.
Everyone should be as Jacksonville Native or at least for 60 years -Skynrd put Jax on the map as did Blackfoot ,Molly Hatchet -Allman Bros founded in Jax as well but Greg did not like the Southern Rock Moniker he said we are Blues Band
Been a fan since 1971 and saw them live in 73 along with Ten Years After and Rare Earth man they sure had some great concerts back then what a great time to be alive
This is just a sweet, relaxing Deep South song about taking it easy and enjoying a simple life. Since this song came out, it’s always been one of those special tunes that everyone sings along to.
The Doobies have tons of great music, try "Long Train Runnin'" or "Listen To The Music" or "Jesus Is Just Alright." For their rock side check out "China Grove" or "Rockin' Down The Highway." For their soul/funky side try "Takin' It To The Streets"
Long “Train Runnin” is a top 10 of mine. Every time I hear it, I imagine them having the best time of their lives playing the song. It has a great backstory too.
Yup! The “Chateau Liberte’” in the Santa Cruz Mtns above where they came from, San José, California. They went to San José State University. They’ve made 18 Albums, Won 2 Grammy’s are just starting a New Tour in Sept. of 2021….SanJoseBob
"Progressive Southern Rock"!!! Damn Lex, once again you absolutely NAILED it with the perfect description of a group you are supposedly hearing for the first time. New subscriber here and really enjoying your insight into the music I grew up with.
For this child of the 60's and 70's, this is VERY calming. Reminds me of simpler days and easier times. A time when this played on the radio coulda been followed by War, Tony Orlando & Dawn, Earth, Wind, & Fire, or David Bowie because good music was just good music. Brought a tear to my eye, thank you.
I can remember crushing the back roads in 1977 with my girl friends. Drinking & smoking on those joints, listening to this song and singing through the whole song really loud 😁 Brings back great memories & good times.
As an old metalhead I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed listening to this old song which I haven't heard in decades with you guys, I could sing along with it as if I had heard it just yesterday or this morning, brought back great vibes of being a kid.
"Black Water" by the "Doobie Brothers" is such a Wonderful Song! It has it all--great lyrics, vocals, instrumentals. The song features Excellent Vocal AND Instrumental Harmonies! A True Classic!
This is the first song I remember hearing in my life. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and dad was driving my to the barber shop. Always loved this song. Now dad in 2000 miles away, dying in a hospital bed. Pretty touching to hear it again.
I love the chill vibe of this song. Back in the '80s, I played basketball. The boy's and girl's teams were loaded up on a bus for an away game. Somebody just broke out singing this song and everybody joined in. We sang it all the way through - had the harmonies and different verses going. It was like something out of a movie! Good times.
When I was a teen my stepdad liked country, I liked metal and hard rock, Doobie Bros. was our middle ground when we went fishing and camping, always remember him and our great fishing trips fondly when I hear this song.
this is just a good old song made in the 70's the best period for music,,, this song reminds me of lazy summer days fishing and swimming in the river, lounging back drinking a cold beer, listening to good music and having a good time.
Bought my dad tickets to see their 50th anniversary tour two years ago for Christmas and just got to see them a couple weekends ago. They kick ass live even at like 75😂
Lex nails it every time! This song is really complex and layered; so many different instruments interplaying with each other, layers of vocals, and different sections of the song that don't sound like the earlier ones. This song was really the Doobie Brothers at their best, and it was hugely popular in the '70s.
I was fortunate to have seen the Doobies it was in the eighties , they have a huge band, 2 drummers and 2 percussionist as well. I tell ya,when they play this song everyone sings and dances. Thanks y'all. Brother Gary
@@zq9m3xh8 I understand why they would think so, but I assume they're only listening to this because it was suggested during their Southern Rock stream, which means other people told them it was southern rock. Shame if this got played over something by The Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, or Blackfoot.
i love these guys, The Doobies so many songs. A really underrated song. Another Park Another Sunday.I love to see these youngsters reaction ti really good music.
For all it's worth, my clearest memory associated with this song was when I around 17 years old, taking a trip to a lake Erie beach, going to drink a few beers with a few friends- the guitarist of my band brought his acoustic... unlike our song catalogue, Sean started strumming this, and there were like 8-10 of us belting out the vocals of this classic at dusk, ending with us all smiling and happy. There was very little reflection, because nothing needed to be said. We finished our beers and got home safely...
Saw them in concert last week in Denver for their 50th anniversary tour. the remaining original members and the new put on a great 2 1/2" hour show. Hope I'm still that energetic when I'm in my 70s
Back in the day when a Doobies song came on we would say "which Doobie you be" and we had to name whichever Doobie bro we were feeling that day 🎶🎵 Another good REACTION Brad 👍✌
you can find this style from the very beginning of Rock and Roll, in where Elvis brought the blues side into rock, you had Charlie Ryan singing songs like Hot Rod Lincoln in 1955 in which it was a country rock. You can see how Folk, Jazz, Blues and Country have imprinted their genetics into Rock creating psychedelic, southern, progressive, Texas Rock, and even progressive rock.
Hey guys this Rock Journey your on brings back memories of hanging out on the ramp having a few cold ones, listening to 95.5 WPLJ radio station I’m New York. I love it. Take care and God Bless from Joey from the BRONX

Wichita, Kansas.. just a few hours from Silver Dollar City... and the now famous Branson... back in the 60's just a spot in the road and a place for vistors to SDC to spend the night at a motel..
Doobie Brothers were really interesting - when they featured Michael McDonald singing lead they had a whole different sound and he is one of the unique vocalists in rock, and is still singing.
My Mom, who is 81 today, had the album The Best of the Doobies, and I played it to death in high school, early 80's. Thanks, Mom, and Happy Birthday!
I have that, and it's on rotation when I'm riding.

I'm trynna figger out why he don't try to get into his OWN head...just sayin'
Too funny!
Everyone wants Lex . We all just jealous of Brad
Who else remembers Rerun dropping the tape recorder as he was dancing at the Doobs concert? Hey, hey, hey!!
🙋♀️
If you have Roku you can watch it on the Roku channel. Season 2, episodes 16 and 17. It's practically just a mini concert in the second half.
LOL, Oh, yeah, and the band was pretty pissed at him for doing that, if I remember, I think.
Lol ,you just brought back a memory, thank you.
Yaaasssss!! HEY HEY HEY. Loved What's Happenin

Steely Dan was named after a dildo. Pretty cool
This is on the mellow side for the Doobies. They can also really rock out. A couple of older ones that should have you moving are Long Train Runnin' and China Grove.
Yes
Doobies are mighty good at making songs that just "fit" for when you want uplift and casual energy.
That's a great phrase "casual energy" sounds like a great name for a laid back band. Cleveland, are you ready to ROOCK! This band has come all the way down from an acid trip just to play for you. Would you please welcome CASUAL ENERGY! T- shirts in the lobby.
@@robertkees6048 lol your mind is a circus. I love the circus!
I like when Lex gets that smile on her face and you know she's digging it.
Lex is now Southern Rock fan!
she feels it

This song was actually a departure from their usual sound. My favorite is Long Train Running. Great harmonica solo in that song.
Oh man, Long Train Running is so good
Brings back good memories of growing up in the 70’s. What a fool believes and take it to the streets are also great songs be them
I absolutely agree. This must have been my favorite song as a kid. And the other two you list are amazing!
It takes me back to the NCO club overlooking Monterey Bay in the 70s.
The 70's were good, esp early on
Been a fan since 1971 and saw them live in 73 along with Ten Years After and Rare Earth man they sure had some great concerts back then what a great time to be alive
Yes it was. Saw all the bands. I still have ticket stubs. Amazing. $6.50 at the door to see Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Peter Frampton.
Yassss
The outro of this song is just pure vibes.
Also, as soon as Lex said Splash Mountain I knew what she meant.
LOL, Doobie Brothers = Country Bear Jamboree. Disney needs to buy the rights to this and add it to the mix! :)
@@kjmorley it's so great because when she said "if you know you know" I was just like....Lex I know exactly what you mean.

Wheels of Fortune is an awesome deep cut as well!
Clear as the Driven Snow ❄
All that!
I saw doobies in the eighties and 15,000 people singing "black water", had to be one of the coolest things I have ever participated in.
The Doobies are my feel good anytime music. Always a pleasure.
Glad they voted for this! True Southern Rock!
One of the SMOOTHEST songs ever... Brings back a whole lot of childhood memories.. Doobie Bro's Rock!!!!

B&L, You'll love their "Jesus Is Just Alright". Even non-christians love it😁
Yes, we do!! Shalom.
This band broke their musical chops playing in Northern California biker bars that were patroned by no less the Hells Angels

Funny how people think there southern like ccr
The Doobie's are always very sentimental for me...my fathers favorite band.
"Progressive Southern Rock"!!! Damn Lex, once again you absolutely NAILED it with the perfect description of a group you are supposedly hearing for the first time. New subscriber here and really enjoying your insight into the music I grew up with.
I’m not sure “progressive” is the right word, however…..to me, it’s much more of a throwback.
Yeah southern California maybe the doobies were not a southern band.
They are not southern rock
@@leonardhenderson6723 Right, a song that has the lyrics "I'd like to hear some funky Dixie land" is not Southern rock. It's a genre, not a geography.
Doobie Brothers, and Steely Dan were my favorite bands since I was twelve (1971). Cant go wrong listening to them. The two bands exchanged artists.
Wow, The Doobie Bros. That takes even me back. Simple feelgood music.
"Progressive Southern Rock "....nice observation Lex

It's subtle, but there's a funky groove note the drummer keeps hitting that keeps everything in order and under control. Fantastic!

Definitely a Doobie Brothers must and I would also include there What a Fool Believes as cheesy as it is I love that song too

I first heard of the Doobie Brothers from the TV show, What's Happening!....Rerun, Raj & Dwayne

I love watching people discovering and digging the music of my youth.
Yes, cool Southern California laid back music. Influenced by their time in New Orleans. Yes, it has a Southern vibe for sure.
I never thought of the Doobie Brothers as Southern Rock. In fact this is the first time I've ever heard them associated with it.

Love the Doobie Brothers! My faves have always been What A Fool Believes and Listen To The Music! Keep On Rockin'
This was my favorite song when it came out. Early elementary school.

Long Train Running! I love watching reactors as they hear it for the first time!
