    Where is IKEA Canton?
    What county is Canton MI in?
    How far is Canton from Detroit?
    and more.

    Peaceful, safe place to live.
    Great neighbors, diverse community. City services are on point ...well worth the moderately high taxes.

    Great video. I think it is important to remember that there are no "high school districts" in Canton. If you live within the PCEP area you can go to any of the 3 schools which are located in the same area and are treated like one school. Students walk between buildings and take classes at all three, one high school is a home school which they play sports for.

    I lived in Canton from 1978 to 1996. What's crazy is, the block of land on Canton Center Rd. & Ford Rd. was an old Party Store called Julians. They sold that land for close to 4 million dollars and that Mini Mall is what is left of it. Everything West of Canton Center was farm land.
    I remember in 6th grade when Outback and Subway came to town and I think that was on the cover of the Newspaper.

    Two things, one Ford Road truly is the lifeline of Canton, and there are accidents on it somewhat often, so be aware of that! Second off, I would like to mention that not every house in Canton is squished together like you mentioned in the video, the newer houses on the Cherry Hill Village area are like that, but a lot of the older houses have a backyard and are somewhat spread out.

    wow, just came across this randomly. I moved to Canton from Detroit as a youngish child with my parents in 1974. It was mostly corn fields then, but 5 or 6 years later it was filled with subdivisions. Graduated Canton HS mid 80's. Moved to Ann Arbor and then eventually Denver. Not to interested in ever going back there. Certainly looks like it grew a lot more. Ford Road has been a nightmare for years. I worked at the long gone Mr. Steak on the corner of Ford and Sheldon as a dishwasher during my HS years. There was a fairly large concert venue named Center Stage near Ford and Haggerty, I saw the Psychedelic Furs there mid 80s. I heard that place is long gone.

    • @mbrowning1970
      @mbrowning1970 2 года назад +2

      Mr. Steak is now “Mexican Fiesta” and the Kroger across the street is now a Walgreens. Kroger moved down to Ford Rd. and Canton Ctr. where Julian’s Party Store was located. We moved to Canton in 1985 and it’s not even close to the same type of community it was back then. Every square inch of land is almost fully developed now and the the traffic all over town is bad; especially on Ford Rd. from Sheldon to 275.

    On the one hand you complain about Ford road but on the other, you people will fight tooth and nail to keep ANY pedestrian and non-car dependent infrastructure from ever being built. If you want driving to be easier, you want MORE walk-able areas and MORE bike paths, more public transport options including light rails.

      I loved the late night dining choices after getting off work at my 2nd job at 10:00 pm out in West Bloomfield.
      Being a bachelor for 9 years (1998-2007) it was really great as far as living there. I even taught Summer School in P-CCS during that time. Great district! Close proximity to Detroit, where I did my Long-Term Subbing at Northwestern, Pershing, Henry Ford, and then Cass Tech. (Worked at Hillers evenings).
      However, as time moved on, I met a great lady, and then moved to the Grand Blanc/Goodrich area. (Grand Blanc is sort of like a baby Canton) and love it.
      Although Grand Blanc is technically a suburb of Flint, many people who live here commute to Metro Detroit and back. I really love it out here!

      @@PaulWolfert It has to do with farmers and property lines back in the day. Canton Twp. was so rural, it really did not have it's own school district back then; only a handful of one room school houses. Therefore, the SE part of the township was closer to Wayne, MI which was an established town with an established school district and the same is true for the SW part of the township being closer to Belleville, MI which was an established small town. Roads back then were not good and these communities were closer for farmers to get their kids to school to. The other parts of Canton was deemed close enough to Plymouth to attend the schools there.
