hello, I love your video a lot, I would like to know if this model sojourn 45L would do under the seat of the passenger of the plane it seems to me big for the comparrtiment of smaller plane like the EMB 175 of United Airline?
That's a great question @RénaldChristie! So far we haven't needed to put it under a seat. It has fit great in overhead compartments. One thing that we have had to learn is not to stuff the bag to the gills. BEcause... then you run into problems. The really great thing we love about this bag is the compression straps. It helps make the bag more compact, especially in situations where its too chunky. Hmmm... Where do you put your water bottle, seems like it has no convenient location for that... Also, when used as backpack, the waist straps seem flimsy, can they really support the weight while the shoulder straps just keeps it in place?
Hey @scooteropia. Your correct about the water bottle, there is no quick draw spot for it. Once the backpack is buckled up it is smooth. You could use a carabiner to hang off of the straps though, if your water bottle has a loop at the top like ours. Most of the time our water bottles go in our other bags. We each carry a smaller bag. As for the waist strap it is actually really durable, and form fitting. It bears the weight of the pack really nicely. It was actually one of the selling features for us compared to other bags. The quality of this bag is really great, and the wheels... OoOoOo the wheels. Very nice. Has made it super easy to drag around the airport & saves your back bigtime. Lately we have had really easy flights so we have been checking the osprey. BUT it does carry on very well, if you don't stuff it to the brim, and if you are on a bigger plane with larger overheads. :) Hope that help - Erin
@@scooteropia - You sure could! It's sturdy! The waist strap is a suspension system. The weight sits on your hips nicely, and adjusts to different body sizes. I love carry-on sized bags since growing up in Scouting I learned how to pack light and efficiently. I have only ever once packed in a carry on but mainly because we always packed my stuff and my brother's together when traveling (family of 4 checking baggage was always easier). I did pack what could have been a carry on size for 2mos in Europe for study abroad, only reason I took the next size up was I knew anything we (my brother and I) bought would be going in my bag. I am now looking for a new suitcase (my first as an adult) and really like the idea of Osprey's since I love their bags (I have 4 lol). Trying to decide between the Fairview, Ozone, and Sojourn. Not sure if I truly need the straps since this will be used for occasional flights and mainly traveling to visit family not "backpack" traveling. Some people have commented on the weight of the bag, any problems with airlines making you check these?
Hey hey @Cianna Coleman! Great to hear your story, and that you are already an efficient packer! It makes going through the airlines WAY faster when you don't have to check bags. We used this bag as a wheeled bag pretty much all of the time. There were a few handy times when we picked it up with the straps. You never know?! We didn't have problems with weight in this bag... But I really think that is based on the person packing it. If you jam it to the gills... yeah you might have issues. All in all, love this bag. Let us know if you have more Q's! @@BEAdventurePartnersThe Sojourn isn't made/sold anymore so it seems. Question is - what does replace it for you guys nowadays. As airline restrictions have become tough, demanding smaller size carry ons+ low weight (7-10kg including the weight of the case itself)
Super great question @Rafael Corredor. We generally just use this bag on wheels. However, I (Erin) have the option with my little leather backpack to turn it into a side bag. The straps are interchangeable so I can pop the Osprey onto my back if needed. Brians bag is also interchangeable. He can tuck his straps in, and carry his camera bag as a suitcase. We both prefer to wear our backpacks and wheel around the Osprey if we have both. The Osprey rolls so smooth, and if we don't stuff it to the gills we can carry it on even with the backpacks. Here is another video we made about it ➜ ruclips.net/video/JHU8B403jCU/видео.html
Hi, can the hip belt and backpack straps be entirely removed/detached if you don't need them? And, if so, how much do they weigh separately? As the bag is pretty heavy for some carry on luggage weight allowances?
Hey @Janine Ralph, no the straps remain attached to the bag, but they tuck away real nice. There is nice little zipper area they can tuck into. Also, in the description below this video you can find our review after having it for 9 months. Some carry on allowances won't let you bring it on... However, if you pack light and don't stuff it to the gills it will work on most planes. Hope that helps. Also, if you plan to go with the bag, our link is in the description too. BE Adventure Partners thanks for your Answer, and for the link! You have amazing things for travelers!!! Another quick question, like how many days can you pack for?? How often do you do laundry? Lol
What trips or occasions did you have to use it as a backpack? I'm deciding whether to get this or just bring a suitcase for a round the world 1 year trip?
Hey @SangBui! If you are doing a world trip, this bag is perfect. In some situations, you will want it to convert to a backpack. For instance, if you are going onto a little boat, climbing into it, you will want it on your back. Or if you are going up & down stairs, cobblestone streets... There are quite a few instances, where converting it to a backpack has just been easier because you are more balanced with it on your back, and can maneuver faster in a crowd. Just recently purchased the Sojourn 80, but if this is the 'carry-on' equivalent I might need to reconsider my pack needs. Does the "carry on plus personal item" typically apply internationally?
Hey there @Jeremy Dipilato! Congrats on getting the Sojourn 80! That bag is identical to the 45L, just twice as big. The 45L is the carry on size and we've both traveled with the 45L Sojourn on airplanes along with our "personal item." So far, we haven't had any international airline tell us that we couldn't take both, because most airlines allow one carry on PLUS a "personal item" which in my case is a leather Saddleback Leather laptop messenger bag (for me, Brian) and for Erin is her leather backpack style laptop bag. We've departed internationally from Canada as well as from the US to Mexico, Central America and South America with no issues. Be sure to check with whatever airlines you travel on most to ensure the dimensions are OK for carry on. We've taken it on American Airlines, Delta, West Jet, Canada Air, TACA, and a few other smaller airlines that are only available in Central and South America. If you haven't seen the updated video on this bag after we had used it for 6 months, you can watch that here: ruclips.net/video/JHU8B403jCU/видео.html Thanks so much for watching! - Brian (+ Erin Too)
@@BEAdventurePartners Brian (+ Erin Too), Thank you for taking the time to respond, I truly appreciate it. This info will help me very much as a gear up to travel next year if things trend in the right direction. You should know, I did switch to the 45L mostly due to this video as well as the follow-up and I couldn't be more satisfied. It is the perfect pack for my needs and I'll get more sleep knowing that my things won't be lost in the baggage underworld that is check-in luggage. I did sit the two next to each other and, surprisingly, they weren't drastically different. I would guess you could stuff a couple pairs of shoes and another medium stuff sack in the 80L... not worth the extra weight, $, time, and risk. You guys keep it up, I very much enjoy what you two have going, Maybe I'll see you on the road, Stay cool
Great video! I'm curious to know if the retractable pull handle has held up for you. I love the idea of a pull backpack but fear it breaking during a long trip and having no other option but to carry it on my back.
Such a great question, @NancyDavis! We've drug this bag across cobblestone, dirt roads, sandy beach style entrances to Airbnbs and have had no problems with the handle. It's nice and sturdy and pops open easily with just the push of the button and lifting the handle from it's stowed position. What's funny is that we haven't even carried it as a backpack yet because it rolls so well! The chassis is arched giving room for uneven terrain. Let us know if you have any other questions. We love this bag!
Hey @BlueSun - Yes it does! Just BE mindful to weigh it, and not to stuff it too full. It definitely fits in the overhead on larger planes, but always check with the airline you are flying with to see the specs on bag allowance. The 45L is the one we use. They do make a bigger one that is check only. So if you want a carry-on make sure its the 45L. 🙂 This is the one we have. It seems like a great bag, my only concern/annoyance would be how frequently you convert the bag from backpack to roller. It seems like something you only do if you already decided how you want to carry the bag, because constantly converting it with the buckles zippers and tucking everything seems like a time waster and a pain in the ass. If you or anyone can speak to that I'd really appreciate it

You guys are so cute! I've been reviewing a lot of backpacks and the Sojourn is in the top 2 so far. How about a laptop and Canon camera with lenses? Any thoughts on where/how to pack these in this backpack? Thanks :)
Aww hey @TraceyFulcher. Thanks for the sweet compliment, and watching our vid. The Sojourn is definitely a great choice. We actually don't carry our Canon, laptops or lenses in it though. I (Erin) carry a cute leather backpack where I put my laptop in a sleeve, and also the GoPro7. Its very cute, and converts into a side bag, so I can wear it across my body when I wear the Sojourn as a backpack. My gf Natalie custom made it for me. If you want to know more about that let me know, and I will make a video. She is up in Ontario Canada. Next time I see her I am going to get her to make me another bag so I can carry a laptop, camera & lenses in style. 😉 BUT Brian carries the rig. LOL (Lucky me) He has the Canon, big tripod, laptop, and all kind of stuff. Here is his camera bag with our current set up: ruclips.net/video/yVJbJlb0vgU/видео.html I gotta tell ya, we have really been digging the wheels and rarely set this bag up as a backpack. Unless we are getting into boats, or travelling across bumpy surfaces. It's been such a treat. We can carry it on the plane, but have been checking it quite a bit so we don't have to drag it around the airport. Also nice ;) We only don't check the Sojourn if our flights are complicated, and we have a stop where we need to pick up the bag & recheck it. Please let us know if you have more questions. (Mind the novel...LOL) Hope this helps you. Happy travels. - Erin 😉
Hai guys I have a high serra bag pack together with wheel is something tat I appreciate most when I go Travelling with mountain biking gear but the wheel rolling has been making a noise and I'm seeing to c with this osprey for my up coming trip to Bali bandung and Jogjakarta
Very cool, @SuhardyHady 😀We haven't checked out that bag but absolutly love the Osprey Sojourn! It's made traveling through the airport and to where we stay along the journey, easy. The wheels have a high clearance over the curved bottom chassis, so I imagine that it may have a better rolling experience over the high sierra pack. If anything ever happens to the Osprey pack, just message the company & they'll help you get it fixed as part of their warranty (check their terms to be sure). You can check out the other travel gear we use on our Amazon Shop here: www.amazon.com/shop/beadventurepartners
This is a super rad bag. It definitely makes life easier. You just have to check with the airlines you fly to see if the bag will fit in the overhead. If you like the bag @Vegabond RoBUStico, there is a link in our description so you can check it out.
Ya @gigi! We totally agree. There is a LOT to consider when choosing a travel bag that is right for you. It all depends on what you need it for. When Brian + I pack this thing to the gills it weighs about 14.5 lbs. When we first travelled with it mine may have been 15 lbs... I forget now. BUT even since this video we have given away stuff that we don't need to people who need it more, so for us the weight fluctuates. Our biggest recommendation is don't even pack it to the gills because as you travel you may want to get something along the way, and you want to have room for that. We honestly really have been enjoying this bag. Most times I am happy to just have a carry-on size, as I release that diva aspect of myself. LOL If you have questions let us know. - Erin

It helps the channel a lot when you use our link as we make a modest commission from every purchase. Thanks so much. Let us know if you have more questions. The second video will answer a lot of the questions you have as well, plus give you a visual.
@@BEAdventurePartners Hi, I asked Osprey the same question and found out that the straps are detachable and that the bag's weight reduces from 8 lbs down to 6.75 lbs. Thought this might help you guys if ever you need to use the bags without the straps. JR
@@janinerelph5024 good to know! Guess it’s not to evident how they remove. We’ll have to take a closer look. Thanks for following up! Happy travels!

Hello!! Thank you for your video!!! I'm about to order one, but i have a question,
Is it compatible with an osprey dalylite bag?
That's a great question, @waaaaahaa ! Are you referring to the buckles on the pack matching the male/female buckles on the cinch down straps on the Osprey Sojourn? If so, yes! We just confirmed with Osprey that the entire Sojourn series (all the sizes) are compatible with their Daylight Packs for attachment :) Here's the exact Osprey Sojourn 45L that we are using: amzn.to/325OoDm (affiliate link)

Hope this helps you make a decision. If you do decide to go with it, please use the link in the description above. Every bit helps us to continue making vids. :) AND keep in touch, we would love to hear about your world tour! - Erin + (Brian too)
Can you lock the compartments ?
cway44 yep! We use one TSA Approved Mini Cable Lock that connects the compartments together, locking them. You can see the locks we use in our Backpacks & Travel Gear list on our Amazon store here www.amazon.com/shop/beadventurepartners

The 45L is the carry on size and we've both traveled with the 45L Sojourn on airplanes along with our "personal item."
So far, we haven't had any international airline tell us that we couldn't take both, because most airlines allow one carry on PLUS a "personal item" which in my case is a leather Saddleback Leather laptop messenger bag (for me, Brian) and for Erin is her leather backpack style laptop bag.

@@BEAdventurePartners Brian (+ Erin Too),
Thank you for taking the time to respond, I truly appreciate it. You guys keep it up, I very much enjoy what you two have going,
Maybe I'll see you on the road,
Stay cool
Hello, I would like to know if the Sojourn Osprey passes as a carry-on?
Hey @BlueSun - Yes it does! Just BE mindful to weigh it, and not to stuff it too full. It definitely fits in the overhead on larger planes, but always check with the airline you are flying with to see the specs on bag allowance. The 45L is the one we use. They do make a bigger one that is check only. So if you want a carry-on make sure its the 45L. 🙂

It will not qualify for Qantas or Jetstar in Australia. The maximum dimensions for Qantas are 56x36x30 centimetres, while this bag is 60x42x31 cm. I know I am responding late to your reply. But I was considering this bag!
I want to order the raincover for the Sojourn but can't find it.

Hey there @OlympicHeightsCommunityHighSchool - Osprey doesn't make a raincover specifically for the Sojourn 45L, but they make universal raincovers that fit based on how many liters of space is within the bag. Here's the Osprey Lightweight Raincover that falls in the range for this bag: amzn.to/2RtSLki

It seems like a great bag, my only concern/annoyance would be how frequently you convert the bag from backpack to roller. It seems like something you only do if you already decided how you want to carry the bag, because constantly converting it with the buckles zippers and tucking everything seems like a time waster and a pain in the ass.
If you or anyone can speak to that I'd really appreciate it
Hey there @MightiestArm! Yeah, we decided that using this bad as a roller bag was going to be best for us. I have the 80l version. It's a total rugged beast and I love it. :)
Totally awesome @ThePoeticVoyage! We were looking at that one too, but we opt to carry-on more often than check... Keeps us quick on our feet at the airports! So that's why we went with the 45L. But, yeah! Both sizes are completely rugged! We've already been on a few flights with them and they are so easy to zoom through the airport and get into the overhead compartments! Thanks for watching :) - Brian + Erin
BUT Brian carries the rig. LOL (Lucky me) He has the Canon, big tripod, laptop, and all kind of stuff. Here is his camera bag with our current set up: ruclips.net/video/yVJbJlb0vgU/видео.html
I gotta tell ya, we have really been digging the wheels and rarely set this bag up as a backpack.
- Erin 😉
Awesome! Thanks so much for the info and safe travels :)

I travel a lot ... love this bag. I never check anything.... that’s just tooooo much to deal with in an already nerve racking situation.
This is a super rad bag. It definitely makes life easier. You just have to check with the airlines you fly to see if the bag will fit in the overhead. If you like the bag @Vegabond RoBUStico, there is a link in our description so you can check it out.
This bag when empty weighs 8 pounds....to be considered I guess if it will be used as a carry on. Just a thought...
- Erin
Nice but they look heavy and bulky
Any wheeled bag has some bulk to it. However, they work perfect as a carry-on and the capacity is excellent! Different bags for different people! Thanks for watching @PricklyPear111 - Brian + Erin
