Angelo and Tony hang out in the Paper Crane Studios (Illusion Industries) with legendary writer, actor, and comedian, DANA CARVEY, to talk all things entertainment. And most importantly, ask: "So, How'd You Get Here?"
SO, HOW’D YOU GET HERE?
The work of actors, publishers, SFX artists speak for themselves in the world of arts and entertainment. But has anyone actually asked these professionals, “So, How’d You Get Here?” The stories may be funny, over-the-top, and sometimes heartfelt; but the journey wasn’t always easy. The show is hosted by Tony Defrancesco and Angelo Restaino, and features experts in the arts and entertainment industry. Nestled in one of LA’s most prolific podcast spaces, Tony and Angelo spend an hour building conversations around this one simple question, “So, How’d You Get Here?”

I was at the pizza parlor in Martinez that Dana refers to in 1986...he had the entire audience in the palm of his hand from start to finish, we were dying laughing. I remember saying to my girlfriend that he should be on SNL. Just a couple of months later he was...an amazing comedian, Dana thanks for all the laughs over the years, you're the best!!!
Wow, very cool strory
Dana Carvey is my lifelong favorite. Absolutely brilliant and gracious in the same breath. Very kind and gentle handling of these interviewers in their growing process. Dana is just the life of the party- how he can walk into character out of left field is abs. timeless…and his comedy iq is equal in stature to R. Williams. Wonderful interview!
Dana Carvey is such an amazing talent I loved hearing his story. I didn't realize The Church Lady was before SNL. Mickey Rooney was my crush when I was 7 because I watched his show with Judy Garland a lot. I wish he never left SNL. Dana is definitely a legend
Fantastic interview! I learned so much about you Dana! Good times. I'm so blessed I got to be on your first Church Lady!!! I can't believe you were nervous. You never looked one speck nervous. Love you.
You are missed on T.V. Love you Miss Jackson!
I really liked hearing Dana's journey to his success to "making it" to the top of his art. And nice to hear he has a great family.
This is SUPERB (and I'm not an all caps type). In addition to the obvious appeal of information about the hyper talented, interesting and entertaining Dana Carvey, the interview gives a lot of information about how the entertainment industry works. It also shows how much work goes into succeeding. I think our society has mixed feelings about successful people -- we root for the striver, but once that person succeeds, especially if they succeed in a big way, we begin to resent them. We start saying the system is rigged, the successful person cheated on the way up, etc. Here we get a matter-of- fact description of what it took this one very deserving and likeable person to succeed. There is some luck involved, but largely it is talent and perseverance. Good lesson for the rest of us.
I was a kid when he was on SNL I remember being 8 and doing his impression of Bush at school to get a few chuckles. Even now when I do an impression it is usually just one of his because I watched him so much all those years. I never did anything with it but I'd love to meet Mr. Carvey and thank him for the laughs and essentially being my first comedy teacher.
This is exactly like I've thought podcasts should be. Not having a set 50 minutes allowed for this conversation to naturally open up and breathe the way one would normally organically happen. I wish more podcasts were like this. Most end just as the interviewee is becoming comfortable. I'm subscribing to this channel. I've heard many Dana Carvey interviews, and yes, this does repeat some of those stories, but here I was able to get to know the rhythm and personality of him on a much more personal level.
This … was….. AWESOME! Thank you !⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That was a Fantastic Interview!
Dana described what anyone & everyone goes through trying to make it in this World.
Nothing easy about it.
Keep trying!
Happy memories of going to the Other Cafe in the 70's to see Rick and Ruby and others! (still laugh remembering R+R''s "theme from "Shaft") 😊👍
Love the set/studio design whoever did that.
LOOOVE YOU DANA CARVEY!!!
Dana Carvey is a great storyteller. This was really cool.
Dana carvey impression of jimmy Stewart was great 😂😂😂.
is anyone else obsessed with the theme music for this show? 🤩🤩🤩
Oooh, love that feedback
This was such an amazing and unique podcast. It was not only wonderful to laugh at Dana as he voiced his classic impressions but also told inspiring stories of how he worked his way up in his career. From the failures, comedy bombings, and hard work. This seriously was the best and I personally needed this kind of inspiration today. Thanks and keep them coming. I look forward to your upcoming episodes guys!
Thanks Karah! We appreciate it!
Karah, I dont know if you will see this, but I am Dana's brother and I went to your channel and watched some of your videos. You are really, really good, you have everything you need to make the big time. Good luck to you, Scott
@@scottcarvey9109 Hello, Scott! That's awesome. Great meeting you and thanks for checking this out.
@@PAPERCRANEPRODUCTIONSLLC Thanks guys .. really took me down memory lane in a good way…laughter has kept me alive all my life
excellent work from all concerned thank you
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Loved the show. You let him go at his own pace. Not rushed. So we'll done, I could listen to it all day long!
Did I remember to thank you???😘
Awww, we appreciate you!
Absolutely loved this interview! Been a huge Dana Carvey fan since his time at SNL. It was wonderful to hear all the stories of his early days, and the highs/lows, hard work & bumps along the way. Thanks for all the great questions you posed to him and taking us on this journey with you. Looking forward to seeing more episodes.
You're awesome J G! Thank you!
Excellent show and a primer on how to make it in show business!
I love the opportunity knocks… I’m pretty sure I watched it 40 times if not more
Awww, thank you Tonya! Our team appreciates that.
and I loved Trapped in Paradise
Brilliant! Best interview ever. Dana Carvey is amazing!
so Dana mentions that he auditioned for Amadeus and the interviewers not only do not follow up on that great piece of information but they even don't seem to know the movie....
Thanks for the feedback
I know. I don't blame them because they are young. The whole time I was wondering if they knew what he was talking about. That movie is one of my all time favorites it is hard to think of another actor but Dana would have been amazing
Right. Same with the fact that it blew Dana's mind about Redford editing Ordinary People in his current apt. And, the many stories he could prob share about Mickey Rooney, alone....love Dana, these guys are young...can't completely appreciate
Dana Carvey has grown into Gary Oldman.
For some reason, I always thought Dana got his start on SNL, but this reveals that he had quite a bit of experience before.
He was already in his 30's when he started on SNL.
Wow... this is SUCH a great interview! Looooove the stories!
Thanks for watching!!
best thing i’ve ever seen. thanks for this.
Thanks so much!!
Awesome interview! Love it. Thank you so much!
Dear Dana,
Is your family looking for a truly unique new experience ?

Unforgettable clean air, ocean, seafood, scenery and smiles.

Aww thank you very much! We'll let the guys know. They'll appreciate it.
This was super I threshing.... as a nay area native it was cool to here about the easy days .!best interview of dana ever
thank you guys
I'm only half way through this and it's Amazing!!
Yes. It’s best without hearing the interviewers.
Very entertaining, great interview, very funny man
Thanks for watching! We appreciate you.
You know what happens to people when everyone tells them they should do stand up? They grow up and fix phones for a living. True story.
Dana did a show from home with his kids. It left off with going over to confront the neighbor. I need to know what happens next. Let me know Dana. Enjoyed the show today. Thanks
I've been writing Song Parodies since my teens. (I'm same age as Dana) I took "My Generation" and turned it into, "My Medication". It was for my age when they wrote it and for my age when I wrote it! You're welcome 🤗😁!!!
We see you @tonydefrancescofromnorthford
nice wardrobe choice by Tony!
He keeps it together every now and then :)
Dana Carvey legend!
#1 the one part.. #2 what he said... #3 you know the drill.. c'mon
live in the studio...Clinton Wonderlove
This Pod has made my decision.... Never Getting Hair-Plugs !!
This was a really good podcast! but I can't help feeling attracted to Dana
Adjusted for inflation, the $300+ K Carvey was making in the early 1980s is about a million dollars a year. Imagine having that much money, appearing on a network TV show, having bicoastal residences, and still thinking "I haven't made it." This is why famous people are famous. They want it and they want it ALL. You have to go for the throat, or you'll never be a star.
I was pretty sure I wasn't going to watch all of this. I was wrong.
Love the interview and hate to complain, but volume mix on bluetooth is really low
Has Dana done Hot Wings haha
It's crazy to think Mike Myers never asked Dana Carvey to have some role in Austin Powers.
He was jealous of how much more people liked DC in Wayne's World
@@jadedjay7861 That’s completely incorrect.
@@jerkface8051 lllllllllkk
Don't think Myers wanted to be known as half of Myers & Carvey for his whole career.
Myers is…at best…1/2 a Carvey- like the J Carey situation…Carvey is better, funnier, smarter…need i continue
Why hasn't Dana written his memoirs??
Great Show. More Celebs > Classic TV Stars, more SNL cast members, Rock musicians...
Following the noise.
It's laundromat, not laundy mat, Carvey! Where are you from, Canada?
24:50
Oy vey, enough with the interuptions, already.
Thanks for the comment. We were excited and know it's something we have to work on. Thanks for watching.
Trey Gowdy? 🤦♂
Why does this look like it's a room full of fog? Everything looks so hazy and low light and dull. Pro tip if anyone around that equipment is a smoker, stop smoking around the equipment. It's almost like the camera lens has a layer of dirt on it or something which is ruining the image.
What's wrong with how this was shot? I haven't seen any of the other episodes on this channel but you too algorithm popped this one up because Dana Carvey, shocked you could get him considering.
This video it looks horrible though. Maybe it's just really bad lighting. Whatever the reason you're set up needs work.
For you kids who never heard of her Paula Poundstone was the worst comic in American history.
JAMES Murray ...maybe hanging out
with her in person was better than her
standup, which was not that great.
She got famous at the time anyway.
Was early for a female comic.
These podcasters interrupt too much and have no insight (not realizing Dana's drumming talent is one of the key factors that propelled him as a comedian, which is a rhythmic art; asking about LA before Dana got to that part of the story, etc.) but at least they give him a lot of time. Dana carries this whole thing and the podcasters (like so many others) are boring and useless.
Just got to the part about not knowing the movie Amadeus and the eye-rolling is getting worse.
Thanks for your feedback. We appreciate you watching.
@@alramone1 Hosting isn't easy, especially when your first show out of the gate is Mr. Carvey. But he's reached out since wanting to come back on ... with another guest ... hmmm?
@@PAPERCRANEPRODUCTIONSLLC You have a great idea here -- just don't interrupt so much when you have a legend on your show!
@@alramone1 Thanks man. We'll definitely let the fellas know. They appreciate feedback.
Why do you interrupt guests that much changing subjects? it is not cool. it is annoying to a guest and to listeners..
