The thing about the space marines not using cover could be explained by the fact that this (their charge) is happening very quickly. It has been stated that your average space marine can move about 23 meters per second, accelerating almost instantly. Imagine being a necron and seeing a space marine standing 20 meters away on some street then in less than a second you have a chain sword through your chest. If you also consider the fact that the necron weapons are far better at long range but the space marines has the edge in mele, running in instead of taking cover could make sense.
Besides the scarabs could probably not give fewer fucks about cover so there is a good chance the space marines would just get swarmed if they tried.
Then again, we all know it is mostly to make them look cool.

The Sisters of Battle do not have the benefit of redundant organs, reinforced skeletons, or enough raw muscle mass to unironically compete in gorilla MMA matches. Their armor is lighter and thinner than that of an Astartes, their weapons are scaled down, and their reflexes are slower than a Space Marine's, which is compounded by the fact that they don't have the Black Carapace to neurologically interface with their power armor. The Sisters HAVE to be be tactically mindful because they are still just baseline humans with good wargear, and even then the Sisters of Battle are also batshit insane religious fanatics that will often choose to fight virtually naked and charge _ahead_ of Space Marines.
Space Marines, in contrast, are faster, stronger, more heavily armed, their wounds close in seconds, they have redundant organs, the benefit of being able to go into cryptobiotic stasis to survive life-threatening injuries, and they often have the benefit of decades or centuries of martial training. Standing behind cover is advantageous and favored by Chapters like the Imperial Fists, but if an enemy can get through Astartes power armor in the first place, concrete and plasteel is only going to do so much. Better to sprint 100 yards over the course of a few seconds to rush the enemy and overpower them with weight of numbers, brawn, and martial prowess than to give them any advantage at range, which the Necrons generally have over most races since their weapons can disintegrate most materials like a sledgehammer through a sandcastle. Furthermore, standard Necron Warriors are generally slow, unresponsive, and tend to suck at melee due to being mindless automata outfitted with energy rifles that might not even have melee attachments, and higher classes of Necrons generally being few and far between. And it's also typical for SOME Marines to either hold back and lay down suppressing fire, or to fire as they advance. This is why Assault Marines generally carry a melee weapon and a bolt pistol or plasma pistol, even if they aren't outfitted with Jump Packs. Hell, the presence of force field technology in the 40k universe often makes melee a necessity, or have you forgotten those two psychic twins from the Astartes videos who could stop supersonic bolter rounds with their minds?

The halo isn’t just for ultramarines. Also Space marine armor is way thicker than the sisters armor. The fact marines charge so often is because you can outshoot a marine, especially if you’re a necron with a super gun, but you can’t out melee a space marine unless you’re a Ork or Tyranid or other marine. Them closing the distance is the scariest shit ever for anyone else. One good weapon for scarabs is flamers, and before you say they’re made out of metal, there’s literally a concoction of prometheum made just for melting down necrons cause otherwise you’d just have a flaming skeleton.

Basically Sister of battle faith is so great that they can pull literally miracles (one of their mechanics). Heck their most of Living Saints come from the Sisters of Battle and are among the mightiest beings in the Imperium, said to be blessed by a portion of the God-Emperor's power. They are often able to decimate foes with psychic blasts of holy fire and gifted with an Inviolable Aura which allows near-invulnerability in battle.
Many Living Saints can also conjure angelic wings, allowing them to bring righteous death from the air. Death itself is not permanent for a Living Saint as they can be resurrected should the Imperium ever need their help again
All Space Marines use the same gear sans very specialiced ones. The halo is usually a Rosarius that generaters a personal force field to defend its wielder.
About the sisters of battle vs space marine armor is like comparing an armored civilian vehicle with a tank. Space Marines move much faster than Sister of Battle due to the black caparace without even counting their superior base speed plus the Space Marine's armor has a range of auxiliary systems that improve the Space Marine's effectiveness, including auto-senses made up of thought-activated communications systems, augurs, audio filters, targeting reticules and numerous other features like life support systems and combat stims.Sister of Battle's armor lack most of those plus their armor offers less protection
The scene of the SM fighting 1 foe at a time is probably due to SM enhanced reaction speed slowed down so we can see what happens: The SM moves in quickly to eliminate the enemy one by one to avoid being overwhelmed before they can react. Space Marines are not only fast in reflexes but also on speed even if that varies depending on the author
For example on the Night Lords Book Talos a traitor Space Marine(but no "gifts" of the Chaos Gods) sprinted at 92 kmph for 10 minutes on uneven terrain before running out of breath

Using cover is situational Taking cover against Necrons is pointless as the Gauss weapons (or worse tesla weapons) will destroy your cover or you'll get swarmed by scarabs. Not to mention if a higher tier unit that can resurrect warriors is nearby someof the 'dead' necrons will put themselves back together and returnto the fight. Necron warriors on the whole have too much of an advantage at range, they have comparatively fewer useful units for melee. You're much more likely to see them take cover against Orks, who are strong melee, but the average orc has abysmal aim. Though their gunz can hit like a freight train so you really don't want to get hit, especially if the More Dakka stratagem is used.

In terms of what army to start, the single best piece of advice i can give, is to pick the faction you find coolest.
As far as how to start them, most factions have a "start collecting" kit, and/or a "Combat Patrol" kit.
Both are good value compared to buying your kits individually, but Combat Patrol boxes will give you a roster that can be fielded for play right away in the smallest typical game mode: combat patrol (500 points)

I not much of a lore expert but, the iron halo that the shield captain wears is a personal energy shield that is awarded as a metal of honor. The reason I am sure of this is the the Lamenters were awarded one from the Ultra Marines for liberating a planet from the orks, they declined because in the fight to liberate the plant they murdered the Human slave camps to halt the orks production. The declining of the Iron halo caused the Ultra Marines to distrust and dislike the Lamenters

The reason in this case for the seemingly unjustified charge actually reflects the mechanics of the game. Necron weapons are more ranged focused and eat through armor, meaning that unless a necron army has been specialized for melee the best way to minimize losses will be to close to melee with them as fast as possible.

The halo is called an Iron Halo. Iron Halos are typically given to Captains. It gives off an energy field that allows for resisting wounds and stopping damage. Those were Ultramarines in the battle. The cheapest 40k army to start is the Custodes as it requires the fewest number of models to make an army. Space marines are probably the next cheapest and a Combat Patrol box is supposed to get you a 25 power lever or 500 point game with them +/- depending on the box. Indomitus was a great box set at the time but was limited release and had 2 factions in it just like the starter sets.

I hadn’t had much personal contact with the Ecclesiarchy’s orders militant in the past, but on the few occasions I had done, I’d found their undeniable martial prowess so closely allied with the worst kind of Emperor-bothering tunnel vision that deploying them effectively in anything resembling a coherent battle plan was all but impossible. The best you could hope for was to point them in the vague direction of something important to the enemy, shout ‘heretic!’ and leave them to it.

As for scarab vs space marine, a squad of space marine would most likely have someone (or an entire other squad) with a different weapon layout like a flamer to deal with swarm enemy type. Hi there ! I saw that loremasters already told yo uabout some of your questions in the comments :) I'll add some little things here and there about my experience on the tabletop :)
First, in the lore as well as on the tabletop game, Necrons are better than marines in term of firepower and ranged fight, so a firefight will always eventually turn in favor of the Necrons. It is also the case with Tau and Eldars. So when fighting these factions, staying stuck behind a cover that is not necessarily more protective than your armor will only grant you a few seconds before the covers themselves are obliterated and disintegrated on a molecular level. On the other hand, marines are far superior at close range, against most units of these three factions, so their objecive will be to rush in the no man's land as quick as possible because even if they take a lot of casualties, the survivors will do the job.
One thing that is always underrepresented in the videos is the speed of a space marine : in full armor, they are quicker than human world class athletes but videos always make them appear heavy and kinda clumsy because it visually makes them appear powerfull and inexorable.
I had several experiences of that on the tabletop : unloading terminators from transports and charging with all I got, yes, I took a lot of models off the board, but when I engaged in melee, my god, that was brutal and quick ! :)
Also, you are definitely right : swarms of scarabs are the doom of elite armies like space marines. To counter them : flamers, frag ammo, plasma, psychic powers and melee, because yes, a space marine can behead six oponents at a time, and besides he can kill with every part of his body, so basically he can crush a lot of scarabs with his feet and fists. Though in the end the scarabs could overwhelm them, yes, definitely.
Sisters don't have SM level power armor, but I see that someone already gave into much detail on the subject ;)
And for the shield guys, they are usually veterans and not numerous enough to cover all their comrades. You also fight with what you have at hand : in another context, it would be possible to have lots of shield wielders on the field, but the Ultramarines are not Imperial fists (they, on the other hand, focus on shields and defensive tactics)
It's not an Omega, it's an Ultima ;) (inverted Omega, obviously)

The halo around their head is actually a piece of kit called the iron halo. The iron halo actually projects an energy field to block or reduce incoming fire. Basically a force field. It is often only gifted to senior space marines so it can also be seen as a sign of rank. Long story short, the halo is a badge of seniority and a piece of kit, it is not unique to the ultramarine and those are ultramarine. You were right about the primaris.
It's also funny you mention microwave guns. There used to be a class of weaponry called volkite which were basically heat rays. They fell out of favor during the horus heresy because they had trouble with penetrating space marine armor as well as how complex they were, so their production was roughly discontinued.

    1) A space marine would not have any problem hitting a scarab mid air, space marine armour litteraly auto aims and does calculations if the target is not too far away. And astartes can actually aim better than their computer (?) if the target is further away. Remember that bolted round are rocket propelled so they won’t slow down and have almost no drop. Ammunition would more likely be the problem.
    2) Also it makes perfect sense to charge if you are a space marine. You compare the combat with modern day warfare but there is a crucial difference; the weapons today far outshines the individual protection, and bullets can be delivered in such quantity that any charge is negated. Have been like that since atleast WWI.
Combat with a space marine should be compared more to medieval times. Most hand weapons (even most necron ones) can not go through space marine armour faster than the space marines can get to the person wielding the weapon. Think armoured knight charging a bowman. Not modern day soldier charging a machine gun... also some of the marines have op storm shields... And space marines are much more efficient in qcq than at range vs a human sized combatants. They are so fast and so strong that anything moral (unfortunately not the necrons) are petrified by a charge for the cheer impossibility of something so strong and heavy to be able to move that fast. It’s called trans-human-dread.
Charges was one of the most efficient strategies until 1800 hundreds or so. For example the Swedish kings used a strategy named gå-på during the pike and gunline warfare. The whole point was to charge a gunline and close the distansen to rout a much larger army. It work, Sweden with its relatively small army beat the Russian army partly thanks to this strategy during the early 18th century.

Stuff to note (most people have already pointed these out so I'm just adding to the emphasis)
    - Yes, sisters of battle perform acts of faith to do pretty supernatural stuff.
    - Those are ultramarines. Primaris ultramarines specifically. If you keep looking at primaris next to regular (or firstborn as they are called) marines, you start to see the differences.
    - The guy with the shield is a captain. The iron halo is not just an indicator of rank, it's also pretty useful wargear that generates a power field around him. Iron halos are not exclusive to the ultramarines, they exist within pretty much all chapters, and their appearance will vary depending on the chapter (for example, blood angel iron halos are usually chalice-shaped or halo-shaped with blood drop ornaments).
    - Most space marines are so zealous that they will almost always charge the enemy head-on despite how tactically unsound it may be. Their zealotry leads them to believe they are in themselves the only sufficient cover. And the fact that in most instances this is indeed the case, only adds to the fire.

I haven't seen a video in which the author considers necrons, so some things could have already been heard...
    1) The starting point of the imperial calendar is not the Birth of Christ, but the first human flight into space, i.e. 1961. Therefore, our year 2021 according to the imperial calendar will be M1.060
    2) Not only the Sisters of Battle are capable of Acts of Faith. Anyone who sincerely and fervently believes in the Emperor is capable of this. And Acts of Faith are not limited to healing. After all, these are divine miracles.
    3) The Warhammer 40,000 universe, despite the entourage , is a fantasy. And, as in many other fantasy universes, there are undead in Warhammer. In 40k, the undead are represented by the necron race. The simplest undead troops are skeletons and zombies. From the first appearance, from the second vitality and slowness, to put everything in metal - that's the basic necron warrior for you. Zombies are usually represented as stupid and slow - so no hiding places. Only a blunt attack in the forehead.
    4) The Sisters of Battle, like other Adeptus Sorroritas, have a negative attitude towards Space Marines. In most Orders, the Emperor is revered not as a God, but as ... the founder. They admit that He created primarchs and legions. But not as a God. Because of this, in the eyes of the Sisterhood, Space Marines are heretics. Yes, and the genetic modifications of the paratroopers from the point of view of the sisters are mutations and heresy (turning a blind eye to the fact that these modifications come from the Emperor). But they are too useful for the Imperium to openly try to destroy them. Which wouldn't stop some fanatical sister from giving the Astartes a little shit. And such battles, when Astartes are shoulder to shoulder fighting with Sorroritas , are not the most common thing that can be found on the battlefield.
    5) That shield fighter is just an animated old miniature Astartes. The claims are not to the animators, but to those who came up with such miniatures.
    6) The original plot moves of the necrons are the legacy of later editions. Initially, the cyberzombi had only a hatred of life and the inspiring will of K'tan

If you like necrons then I'd advise the following.
Recruit Edition starter set, Paint + Tools set, undercoat, Tamiya Ultra thin plastic cement. For about $115 you would get undercoat, 12 paints, 1 textured base paint, starter paint brush, mould line scraper, clippers, plastic glue, 20 minis, basic rules, and a VERY simple game mat and building.
The space marines may not appeal to you but the recruit edition is only $5 more than a box of necron warriors on their own and you get 10 necron warriors, 3 scarab swarms, necron royal warden, marine lieutenant, and 5 man marine assault squad. It will let you try your hand at painting two very different factions to a basic battle ready standard that can be greatly improved upon with only a few more colours, if you enjoy painting.
If you decide to delve deeper then you have something to build from. If you hate it or another faction takes your fancy you haven't spent much on painting practice minis.

A little strange when you talk about fire and movement and use of cover as if it's the be all and end all of tactics in a universe with tyranids, orks, necrons and more.
First off, Space Marines don't always use cover for a good reason. Their armour is better than whatever cover they might hide behind. Secondly, they're shock weapons. They have to be moving forward. If you reduce Space Marines to just a basic rifle team then what's the point? You might as well just field more guardsmen. A regiment of guard will outshoot a space marine company any day of the week in sheer firepower.
Moving on, Space Marines do use fire and movement. They also have devastator squads with heavy weapons for this reason, to provide suppressive fire and create kill zones as well as tackle bigger threats like tanks, large and powerful enemies like the Carnifex or just purge entire areas with heavy flamers and melta weapons.
    Space Marines have three components.
Assault squads are recon, close combat and are basically your fast moving support. They can recon forward, they can hang back and jump in when you need to fill a gap or they can quickly rush and take over a position or break an enemy.
Devastators provide the heavy weaponry and the cover fire for the rest of the larger unit.
Tactical squads are the most experienced and they're generalists. They are the ones who will be seizing and holding ground and exploiting opportunities. The devastators provide cover so the tactical squads can move up. The assault squads recon for the other two to set up in good positions or to take the best advantage of the situation. The assault squads rush a position and then hold it just long enough for tactical squads to then reinforce them, followed by devastators.
When you're a guardsman fighting a tyranid or ork wave, what is the point in fire and movement? You have to get as many rounds downrange as possible. You cover is going to be pointlessly trapping you once a gaunt or an ork with an axe just close the distance and at that point, your unit is just dead. Sometimes it's just better to form up a big old firing line outside of cover and just mow down that wave of tyranid gaunts with volley after volley of lasgun fire, backed by your other heavy weapons like bolters, flamers, artillery, mortars, etc.
If you're fighting necrons, they will sit in cover at range just firing at you. The only way to beat necrons is to just quickly overwhelm them and break up their cohesion. The longer it drags out, the worse it is for the guardsmen or space marines who have to deal with them.
Hell, for Space Marines, they drop in via drop pod, from orbit, and the whole point is speed and aggression to break the enemy before he can figure out how to deal with them. Sitting in cover and moving up is ridiculously suicidal when you can just run up, tank the hits with your power armour and overrun the position.

I'd say the effectiveness of Astartes was from conventional tactics being mostly thrown out the window. In most cases, their power armor and superior physiology WERE the cover. Any enemy force relying on conventional suppressive tactics to keep them buttoned up and hunkered down would shatter in the face of of an enemy just plowing right through it, like if tanks were deployed in the Battle of Hastings.

A few points from the video:
Start Collecting boxes are a good place to start, most factions have one. Otherwise just start with a basic troop box and get used to painting with them.
Scarabs are absolutely great for bogging down and killing Space Marines, in a recent game my opponent's Scarab unit did a number to a squad of Chaos Marines.
Space Marines tend to be superior combatants in melee combat, so they'll often break cover to engage at close range. In game and in universe they're more likely to lose protracted firefights against opponents such as Necron Warriors or the Tau Fire Caste even when taking advantage of cover, so they'll accept the casualties of the charge for the advantage they hold in melee.

5:55 Space Marines ignoring cover was a mechanical oddity and dates back to older editions of 40k. In the 5th edition rules for example, a unit of models could roll ONE saving throw for each wound suffered by the unit (first roll to hit, then to wound). The save could be from armour, cover or some device that granted an invunerable i.e. undeniable save. The source of your choice i.e. the highest dictated your save.
From the Warhammer 40,000 5th edition core rulebook page 21
    COVER CHART
    Cover type - Save
    a) Razor wire, Wire mesh - 6+
    b) High Grass, Crops, Bushes, Hedges, Fences - 5+
    c) Units (friends and enemies), Trenches, Gunpits, Tank traps, Emplacements, Sandbags, Barricades, Logs, Pipes, Crates, Barrels, Hill crests, Woods, Jungles, Wreckage, Craters, Rubble, Rocks, Ruins, Walls, Buildings, Wrecked Vehicles - 4+
    d) Fortifications - 3+
Space Marines had an armour save of 3+ or success on three or higher on a d6 - six-sided die. Thus, they NEVER had a reason to stay in cover since they were "walking cover" and could shield weaker units by blocking line of sight. Since the fiction sells the models, GW has kept Marines running at their foe ignoring tactically more viable options - less so on 9th edition.
Edit: Microwave weapons are a great idea. If the ceramite armour had no reflective coating, the microwaves could cause a thermal run off and not cook, but explode from within. Cooking or really just heating would be horribly painful, but not instantly deadly. Weaponization would be rather difficult due to loss of energy to ambient water vapour and other compounds especially at long ranges. In our world that could be done at in near contact (< 1 m), but the power source and power storage as always would make this impractical as a weapon. Plasmas, meltas and explosives would be far more reliable and safer in terms of potential collateral damage.

That Guardsman would've been a burden for this Sister, because the training and equipment of Sister is much better than those of regular Guardsman.
The Iron Halo is not unique for only the Ultramarines. They can be in any Chapter of Astartes. Though they're only reserved for the most senior members of the Chapter.
And the cover is actually kinda useless against the Necrons. Especially with the size of an Astartes. And considering that they're wielding weapons that can turn into atmos anything in it's way when shooting. Just not that fast.
And the simple Necrons don't think for themselves. They're too... I shall say "robed" of their ability to think. They're like the old Necrons - mindless automatons, who follow commands and can't mostly do anything except that.
And the Scarabs are not kinda combat ones...They're designed to build, repair and harvest things, but not to kill. It came only as a side effect, I think.
The Necron Warriors are too unthinking to think and cooperate. Without anyone of high-ranking necrons.

The Indomitus box is now out of production but there are other starter sets that offer figures for less than the individual squad sets. Any of the boxed army sets will offer a saving over buying units individually and if you aren't worried about the game then it doesn't matter how effective the selection is on the table. The introductory paint sets for both marines and necrons come with some figures but you are limited to Ultramarines.

What you said about the Scarabs is actually a entirely valid strategy, they move fast, get in close, CAN hit hard if luck is in your favor (6's are either exploding 6s or auto-wounds, I forget.) and you have a stratagem that costs you a command point, but it allows you to explode one of your scarab models to cause d3 mortal wounds.
And if you have a Scarab Hive, you can regenerate that sacrificed scarab. And if you use a certain dynasty, each of those scarabs have op sec, meaning they can hold and contest objectives.

Couple things: Space marines have really, REALLY good armor. Their armor is better, and they are genetically engineered compared to an adeptus sorritas.
Secondly, I can see why it is smart for a space marine to take cover, but space marines (specially in lore) can take heavy punishment and keep pushing forwards, so cover usually is over seen.
Thridly, Necrons tend to not do so well in melee combat, although they do have special units like Destroyers made for melee, the general army isn't that good in close combat. So charging the Necrons with space marines isn't the worst idea, since Necrons have better guns and has a good chance of beating the marines in a fire fight.

As far as getting into the tabletop, a few tips:
    1) The best faction to start with is ALWAYS the one you like the most. Building and painting an army’s worth models is an endurance race and getting and keeping the motivation to keep going is the hardest part. So while there ARE armies that are easier or harder to paint, if you don’t like how the faction’s lore, aesthetics, or playstyle, don’t buy it just because it’s more “beginner-friendly” and ESPECIALLY not because it’s doing well in the competitive meta.
    2) With all the vids you’ve been watching, you’re probably starting to get a good idea for which factions’ lore and aesthetics you like, but playstyle can be a little hard to gauge w/o actually, well, PLAYING. Luckily, there are a couple good ways to “try before you buy.” The Games-Workshop-approved ways are to go to a local game store (esp. a GW specific one) on a 40k game night and see if any of the folks there would be willing to let you play their army (or a small subset of their army) for a demo game OR to buy into the small-squad variant game 40k Kill Team, which are basically rules to let you play (still in 8th edition currently) satisfying games with much smaller forces. You can also test things out on a virtual tabletop like Tabletop Simulator, which’ll give you maximal freedom to test things out, and the only really good socially distanced option but since they can let people play without buying GW’s models GW doesn’t like it.
    3) If you really don’t have a preference between multiple factions, the general rules of thumb for what makes a faction more newbie-friendly are: (A) fewer, more elite models, like space marines, custodes, & knights (B) lots of large flat surfaces without as many tiny details, like space marines & tau (C) Wide diversity of effective tactics that let you adapt to different opponents, like Space marines, admech, or guard (D) More recent & frequent updates to the model line so you don’t feel abandoned in the long-term...like space marines. You will note that Space marines are (quite deliberately) in literally ALL of those categories, but most have at least one or two ways in which they are “easier” than others.
    4) Some factions can play on the same team, some can’t, so if you have multiple interests that can team up, there’s no real harm in getting some of each. The specifics have changed from edition to edition but last I checked in 8th edition, any Imperium faction can be allied (which is called an “Imperial Soup” army), any Chaos human (including chaos space marines, renegade knights, and traitor guard-same as imperial guard, just allied with Chaos and covered in more spiky bits) or demon factions can play together (“Chaos Soup”), any Eldar faction can play together (“Eldar Soup”), Tyranids can play with Genestealer Cults, and Tau can play alongside Farsight Enclaves Tau or “Gue’Vesa” (same as Imperial Guard, but allied to the tau instead of the Imperium and covered in more shiny bits)
    5) Most factions have something called a “start collecting box” which generally gives you enough models to make a small core to start an army. Some are better deals than others and some include units that aren’t actually all that useful, so you’ll want to check whether the ones for the faction you picked is a good deal, but they are ALL cheaper than buying the models separately. And some factions have other special deal boxes like that, like the Indomitus box, so take a look for the factions that interest you.

While I can't really suggest an army, might I suggest that you start with Kill Team which is basically Warhammer on a smaller tactical scale where you control maybe a squad or two of troops. This naturally results in a lower barrier to entry as there are fewer models to acquire and collect not to mention you can easily take your Kill Team models and use them in the full army in the future.
If I might make a suggestion if you go this route....try a bit of a theme and make an Imperial Guard kill team with the units in the kill team being based off of you and your soldier buddies just translated into Warhammer. Would be fun at least and allow you to add personality to your soldiers.

The Halo is a "Iron Halo" its a piece of technology that has in it a refractor shield. think typical sci-fi shielding tech but less realiable.
They are usually issued to high important people, as having your officers not die easily is a good thing on the battlefield.
As for the Charging bit, that was actually a bit of tabletop flare here, look at the tiles of on the ground, this is a bit of a cinematic 40k tabletop game style
Also when fighting Neroncs, theres are basically 3 options you have fighting them.
1: Be as mobile as possible as the Necrons soldiers software/remnants of their minds isnt that fast and their targeting while accurate as hell isnt as swift to react to changes.
2: Go into close combat for similiar reason but there you have the advantage of their software trying to mitigate friendly fire

They are the Necrons, they near unkillable and will probalby heal from getting its chest cut open given time, so probably resonable to remove its head. Ofc in older lore there were stories where they were hit by melta weapons and reduced to siver puddles, and a Necron Lord with a ressurection orb still get them to repair themselves.
These are definitely Primaris, but i am resonable sure they are Ultramarines. And yeah the Halo is common across legions sometimes with small variations in appearence. Mostly reserved for seniority or special people who has earned them in some way.
The space marine power armor is much stronger, tougher and thicker than the sisters of battle and the standard necron warrior is a drone, i will not take cover or duck at all. Ofc the point that cover is important for marines stands that much stronger since at least lorewise a shot from a necron Gauss weapon will kill a marines outride if he is hit.
I would say that due to training and psudo since the marine could probably hit the scarabs, but its true they can overwhelm them, so they are best fought with area weapon. And they'll happy eat through a marine or a tank
As for cooking a marine in his armor, large parts of it
Dark Imperium is a good starting box space marine primaris vs. deathguard both two factions has beautiful models in the box. Custodes are easy starting because every model is expensive pointwise. Kill team can also be a really good place to start, fewer models required and they can be individualized. Or just go with whatever faction you think is coolest
    Keep up the good work.

The iron halo is indicative towards the seniority within the majority of chapters yes since its meant to be a shield generator device of a kind to protect commanding officers or veterans, its similar to the Crux Terminatus that Marines in Terminator armor would have or the Rosarius that would be awarded to Space Marine Chaplains.

Some lore about IRON HALOS :The Iron Halo emits a very strong Conversion Fieldaround its wearer, which makes his armour even harder to pierce with enemy ranged and melee weapons. In addition it also provides its user with immense resilience to even the most potent weapons such as Lascannonsand missiles of all varieties. The energy shield the Halo generates stands a good chance of deflecting many deadly projectiles that would slay even an unprotected Space Marine with ease.
Note: i even heard of iron halos that act more as deflector shield bending projectile vector in such a way to not hit the space marine... the effect is strongest around the head (this is why some some space marines feel no need to wear a helmet anymore.)

  • @berndlurk5548

The iron halo is a device every chapter uses. It is a shield generator that can be used to defend against attacks that would normally ignore the armor, like a lascanon, melta weapons, big artillery hits and such. It is usually only available for captains and chapter masters because it is so rare. Terminator armor has a similar effect and Chaos forces use a similar game effect but it is called dark aura there.
Yep, they are Primaris but still Ultramarines. They wear an upside down omega symbol btw, the normal omega symbol is used by the Alpha Legion (who are also sort of blue-ish). In TTS big E calls it a toilet seat :-)
On the tabletop there is usually not that much cover because you need to be able to move tanks and big creatures over the field. Sitting in a ruin isn't safe: artillery or some magic powers can still hit you and wipe out the squad (including Space Marines), so sometimes it is better to charge and get close (I guess the armor is the cover). Foot slogging is still the worst approach, tanks or drop pods are safer of course.
In 30k there are shield units, called breacher squads, they are really hard to shoot but many good units from 30k don't exist in 40k.
The animators maybe learned close combat from the movie Blade, where the stuntmen wait for Wesley Snipes to turn and fight them :-)
The Necrons also started not that original; they started as Chaos Androids and where copied from the Terminator movie before they put an Egyptian theme on them and fluffed them out.
