  • Newly elected Rochdale MP George Galloway hit out at both Labour and the Conservatives in his first speech on returning to Parliament.
    The leader of the Workers Party of Britain opened his speech by saying: “As I was saying Madame Deputy Speaker, even in Parliament you can’t be a maiden twice.”

      I believe that it is the parliamentary tradition to pay tribute to both your predecessor and the constituency in a maiden speech, and George Galloway would have clearly understood that tradition.

      I think everyone left the moment they have heard George will speak. UK politics currently have no parties to speak for working class hard working people. If anyone say anything media gets too personal and accuse them of various bad things. Media is being used to divide people who just want more rights for their tax contribution. But the parliament is being ruled by tax dodgers.

But in any conflict instead of seeking peace if you take sides more human loss will happen. Goal is that we all try our best to work together to reduce hate and conflict.     Not a big fan of George and his politics but I like the fact that he's a disruptor of the establishment and we need as many of those from left right and centre as possible.

      His aim is not so much to disrupt, but to make audible the voices of those rarely heard. His politics seem primarily the defence of democracy, and against profiteering and war.

      Dispute and debate without getting personal is the beauty of democracy. I think everyone left the moment they have heard George will speak. UK politics currently have no parties to speak for working class hard working people. If anyone say anything media gets too personal and accuse them of various bad things. Media is being used to divide people who just want more rights for their tax contribution. But the parliament is being ruled by tax dodgers.

    The fact that ministers are looking at their phones as someone is speaking is despicable.
    This is the home of our democracy and you are twittering or texting .
    A school child would rightfully be removed from the classroom.
    Show some respect.

    I am not on the side of George Galloway politically but I love seeing an MP able to speak well and passionately for several minutes without using notes. Most MPs are so inept they can’t even ask a question without reading it.
    The MPs on their mobile phones are a disgrace and need to be reminded of their manners. It is long past the time for mobile phones to be banned in HOC.
