    Lets keep it brutally honest, the front office signs QB's like Lawrence to mega contracts to save their careers as well as make profits off of occasional playoff appearances (giving the fans hope & profiting off tickets). If the team really really wants a Superbowl they would cut the just satisfactory QB play and take a chance in the draft or in a trade. That's just the reality. Aka the cowboys

    • @ryanw4182
      @ryanw4182 8 дней назад

      not really, because paying a quarterback doesn't cost the team money. Teams are required to spend 89% of the salary cap at a minimum and almost every team in closer too the 95-100% range. Spending 50mil on a QB means that you have to spend a minimum of 175mil on everyone else, and spending 30mil on a QB means 195-220mil for everyone else. The only real way to profit from keeping a bad QB is if you get a really good team around them or sell *a lot* of jerseys. If you pay a 10-20 QB top 5 money, you can only pay for the recognizability for the fans, or are just gimping your team out of good players, it just doesn't make financial sense the majority of the time. Also I would say dak is probably a top 5 QB, not sure cowboys losing in the playoffs is always his fault. There's a reason the cowboys have mad 0 NFCCGs in the last 28 seasons and 13 playoff appearances with 6 different first string QBs

    A salary cap on quarterbacks is a dumb idea, especially if a team doesn’t have a quarterback. The current system forces the teams with great quarterbacks teams to draft well and to have their quarterbacks raise the level of play for the team. With a salary cap, the good teams will dominate longer because they can keep more of their star players with its quarterback. Managing the cap is a critical part of building a team. Plus, the great quarterbacks should be paid market value…if their current team doesn’t want to pay them they should have the ability to go to a team willing to meet their salary demands. When an owner sells their team, they are selling it at market value not at a discount.

    • @terranceramirez4816
      @terranceramirez4816 8 дней назад +2

      Only one current quarterback is elevating his team to the level that is needed to win in spite of his contract. Also it’s impossible to draft well enough to make up the talent deficit that a team with a prime quarterback faces relative to a team with an elite quarterback on a rookie scale contract. It’s not for nothing that the first team to win a Super Bowl with > 17.5% of team cap tied up at one position was the “F dem picks” Rams 🐏.
      Methinks your attitude about the idea may change over the next several seasons when the Chiefs go on a Bama-esque run and the only teams that can squeeze a few championships in edgewise are teams with rookie contract QBs, and the league starts to experience a decline in popularity because of ennui with the status quo. Gen Alpha is already turning towards soccer ⚽️ in a major way.
      Not to mention how much harder drafting is going to become when the greedy greedmongers in power college football get their way and only 50 or so teams are playing scholarship level football, with 25 of them being the power schools that hog all of the talent and sit a large portion of it on their benches.

    • @brandoncheever1897

      The draft cap is what saves football from being like baseball. In baseball, the NY Yankees dominate because NY is a huge city, so they have more resources. There’s no way that Buffalo or Jacksonville could compete with a tenth of the cap that NY has.

    Trevor Lawrence is a very interesting QB for me because as far as I remember in his college career he was already coronated as a future star NFL QB. He went 1st overall, he was a can’t miss prospect. And there was very little to make anyone think otherwise, he had the size, arm, work ethic. It was a no brainer. So his struggles are more unexpected than if he actually became a top 10 QB. I do agree that his team has failed him on multiple occasions so far but they’re at a point now where the excuses are running out and he has to put up or shut up. Getting his extension now was the best move for him because if he had a other bad season there would be questions on if the jags should move on from him

    The biggest mistake the dolphins will make is paying Tua 50+ million. If the best QB in league is making less why would you wanna pay Tua more when he can’t do that same

    • @jeanfourcade
      @jeanfourcade 7 дней назад +1

      The mistake is less about the $ amount than locking themselves into an expensive long-term deal (4 or 5y) with Tua. Tua is the weakest link in MIami, kept alive by McDaniel's special schemes and fantastic offensive weapons. Any QB would shine MORE than Tua, under such conditions.They should look for their next QB while playing Tua under his 5th year, and let him. Then rebuild for 1 or 2 years around the new QB, because lots of srtong players will be leaving very soon.

  • @ericschmit5911
    @ericschmit5911 7 дней назад +1

    Judging a team for not taking a QB who has had a stellar career with another team is erroneous. Case in point, Brett Favre. He did not do well with the Atlanta Falcons but shined with the Packers. Another thing is a QB is usually only as good as the front line and WR core. Many QBs who may have had great careers in the NFL were destroyed by playing for teams with bad offensive lines and/or mediocre Wide Receivers. It is extremely rare to have a QB in the NFL that shines without these.

  • @Sly_404
    @Sly_404 7 дней назад +1

    Paying a top 20 QB big money is fine. Doing so on a 3 year contract as Dallas did isn’t. Those 7+ year contracts allows teams to move money around constantly, the way a 3 year contract doesn’t.

  • @Sly_404
    @Sly_404 7 дней назад +2

    If you move on from a top 20 QB chance is you have to spend major draft capital to move up. Even then the chance you will pick a prospect that doesn’t work out is larger than the chance that it will. If it doesn’t, everyone that advocated for the move will likely get fired. So there is a low chance for upside but larger chance for a downgrade or even losing your job.

    i hope we let dak walk after this year, he's shown time and time again he can't get it done when it matters. unfortunately i could see him going somewhere else and getting to the conference chip, once there's less noise surrounding him. he clearly can't handle pressure, and all dallas is, is a pressure cooker. we need a guy like stroud to come in, and make their own culture. need that mentality and moxie. ofc the problem is there aren't many out there. id also like to see us trade micah for a walker type haul, and go get perkins in next years draft. he feels like a bigger distraction than anything atp, and just adds fuel to the fire. not too mention his iniquities in the playoffs as well.

      Stats don't lie: Tua choked 4 times in a row in 2022 at the threshold of the playoffs, choked big time in 2023 vs the Bills for the crucial div title, and again vs the Chiefs. He's not a good QB, he's barely decent. Signing him for 4 or 5 years is a mistake. If Dolphins want trophies, that is. Otherwise, why not?

    Is Jared Goff a significantly better qb than Dak? You’re being dishonest if you say yes. Dak will cost a lot not because of how good he is but because of how much worse the AVAILABLE QBs are. Dallas has no real choice if they don’t plan a rebuild. CeeDee and Micah can’t wait for a rebuild. Gotta build around Dak more

    Needs to be emphasized how GM’s mostly do this cause they are scared and want to save their own ass, versus if the player deserves it. We all know Miami should try and trade tua or other prices and use draft ammo to get either ewers or beck next year but they won’t

    Trevor Lawrence, Jared Goff & Tua Tagovailoa are not worth what the market is, but teams will follow the market anyways & overpay their mediocre players, then fans wonder why their team isn't good enough to compete for a championship.

    QB salaries are out of control. The idea that almost EVERY starting QB getting signed resets the market is moronic and unsustainable. NO player should be paid significantly more than Mahomes because Patrick Mahomes is the best player in the league and it's not that close.

    • @bireland2012
      @bireland2012 8 дней назад +3

      Mahomes gets payed less because he is on a longer contract. He also might be willing to get paid less if it means his team can help him out more.
      Tom Brady took a pay cut so the Patriots would have more cap space so if a Quarterback likes the project going on and cares more about Super Bowl wins than money then they might opt to get paid less.

    Well it's just stupid paying any player according to market value and not based on performance. You've got several QB's that really haven't done much as far as winning championships ,MVP 's etc making more than a QB like Mahomes that's led his team to thre Championships in last five seasons. It makes zero sense and really has gotten out of hand.
