Are there any quarterbacks you wouldn’t pay? 🤔
Browns fan here, Deshaun Watson contract worth still in question. 😐
@@TimothyMichaelsIs it really a question? A fully guarateed nearly quarter-billion for a guy sitting on the bench half his time there.

Totally understand what you're saying and agree. But most in Cleveland say if he plays like his time with Texans, then it's worth it. His time is now, no excuses and he better impress the hell out of us.
I personally believe you're misleading people with Trevor's contract. He ain't getting near $50+ Mill a year against the cap, before the out.
As a jags fan idc if tlaw got a billion dollars people dont understand what watching the jaguars the last 20 years does to a man
That’s why it’s good to sell hope to a teams fan base even if they know they won’t win it all
My brother Is a Jags fan so I've seen the pain but still feel they paid him too early
Exactly. What were they before he got there? Irrelevant
As a fellow Jags fan, we could've just built around Minshew by trading that #1 pick for a king's ransom of draft picks
Bro I’m a dolphins fan, I get it
I mean Jared Goff has made more Super Bowls and AFC/NFC Championship games than Josh Allen...
Dilfer and Brad Johnson won more SB than Marino. Its a team game not a QB game
You're also talking about 1-offs with those guys. Goff has succeeded multiple times with multiple teams. At this point, he's a successful qb.
@@CHancock7Nah, he’s a good starter but not better. He just had the best playcallers in the league making him look better. (McVay and Johnson). You put Jared Goff in Buffalo and that team never wins the division
The NFC is a obviously a weaker conference than the afc…
And put up a mighty three points. Don't leave that part out.
49ers when it's time to pay Brock Purdy: 😰
He made 2 conference game appearances and a super bowl appearance he needs to get paid
Paying purdy is so much easier than paying Lawrence.😂

@@andrewmartinez9613game manager.
@@andrewmartinez9613lmao and people will still flame him when he gets paid
By this logic EVERY starting qb should reset the market regardless of how mid they are. Ridiculous.
Geno Smith next😉
Exactly, Dereck Carr must be fuming.
Lets keep it brutally honest, the front office signs QB's like Lawrence to mega contracts to save their careers as well as make profits off of occasional playoff appearances (giving the fans hope & profiting off tickets). If the team really really wants a Superbowl they would cut the just satisfactory QB play and take a chance in the draft or in a trade. That's just the reality. Alex Smith was a damn solid QB but the Chiefs wanted it all and took a shot in the 2017 draft, and look where that led them.
Truth
Yeah but to be fair you won't find another mahomes so easily
Imo beside mahomes the next top 3 qb are burrow, allen, lamar after that it gets really murky
As a gm you can't gamble to replace a top 5-10 qb in hopes of drafting the next mahomes as in all likelihood you gonna miss then ended up being fired
Why don’t teams just draft the next Mahomes? Are they stupid?
@@GuRReN1495You’re probably fired anyway if you stick with the guy you don’t believe in, cause he’ll probably drag you down with him. Like Wentz and Hurts. Howie knew when to admit his mistake and drop his baggage off. But he also had a recent SB ring giving him some slack.
@@taco7677 completely missed the point of my argument.

Detroit fan from Detroit here: We would have rioted in the streets if they traded Sewell or Hutch away.
Love Quarterbacks who complain that other positions like running backs don't get enough money, but will turn around and demand 50 Million dollars a damn season, which means, less money for other players......smdh🤣🤣🤦♂🤦♂
Well billionaires complain about poverty in their countries so go figure. It’s the teams jobs to create the money. Not the qb
The reality is that besides Mahomes
The gap between the second best qb and the 20th best has never been this close in any era which makes the contract situation that much more difficult
I think the gap from Allen/Burrow/Lamar (whoever you think is #2) to #20 is massive.
I actually think the 2-15 is actually very close. Allen a turnover machine, Burrow tries to play hero ball and puts the team in bad situations and can't stay healthy, Lamar can't beat you from the pocket if you decide to maintain him and take his running lanes away (you do need DBs for this)
@@mroverdose14Allen is a turnover machine that scores like 45 touchdowns a year who cares
@@mroverdose14Lamar can’t beat you from the pocket? He’s been doing it since 2019 Grow up. In teams of pay your right they aren’t, but there is significant talent margin from 2-15
@@hrudypeela1367 Who cares? The coaches cause they took the ball out his hand and decided to run the ball the 2nd most in the league after they went 6-6.
Remember Winston lead the league in yards and TDs but also turnovers. This guy him turned into a Starter/back up in New Orleans. Allen high is high but his low in so low he loses to Zach Wilson.....
Man a lot of ppl put these personal opinions to these QBs gettin paid but most of tha time it’s just business. every team gone sell you tha idea of winning a SB but realistically it’s only 1 trophy n 32 teams that need to make a profit. so finding a QB that wins you games perfect example Dak winning 12 games a season it keeps tha money coming in becus you can sell tha hope to tha fans. plus playoffs games = more money. so a QB who isn’t top 5 can get top 5 QB money based they their market & all typa stuff. it’s all business at tha end of tha day
Aka the cowboys
not really, because paying a quarterback doesn't cost the team money. Teams are required to spend 89% of the salary cap at a minimum and almost every team in closer too the 95-100% range. Spending 50mil on a QB means that you have to spend a minimum of 175mil on everyone else, and spending 30mil on a QB means 195-220mil for everyone else. The only real way to profit from keeping a bad QB is if you get a really good team around them or sell *a lot* of jerseys. If you pay a 10-20 QB top 5 money, you can only pay for the recognizability for the fans, or are just gimping your team out of good players, it just doesn't make financial sense the majority of the time. Also I would say dak is probably a top 5 QB, not sure cowboys losing in the playoffs is always his fault. There's a reason the cowboys have mad 0 NFCCGs in the last 28 seasons and 13 playoff appearances with 6 different first string QBs
I really like the quote about how hard it is to improve at the position verses how easy it is to get worse.
The reality is that if you pay your QB a mega contract to be the highest paid QB, you aren't winning shit
Chiefs eyeing a threepeat as we speak lmao

Aint no one stupid enough to pay Dak over $60m.....
*Cleveland Browns enter the chat*
A salary cap on quarterbacks is a dumb idea, especially if a team doesn’t have a quarterback. The current system forces the teams with great quarterbacks teams to draft well and to have their quarterbacks raise the level of play for the team. With a salary cap, the good teams will dominate longer because they can keep more of their star players with its quarterback. Managing the cap is a critical part of building a team. Plus, the great quarterbacks should be paid market value…if their current team doesn’t want to pay them they should have the ability to go to a team willing to meet their salary demands. When an owner sells their team, they are selling it at market value not at a discount.
Only one current quarterback is elevating his team to the level that is needed to win in spite of his contract. Also it’s impossible to draft well enough to make up the talent deficit that a team with a prime quarterback faces relative to a team with an elite quarterback on a rookie scale contract. It’s not for nothing that the first team to win a Super Bowl with > 17.5% of team cap tied up at one position was the “F dem picks” Rams 🐏.
Methinks your attitude about the idea may change over the next several seasons when the Chiefs go on a Bama-esque run and the only teams that can squeeze a few championships in edgewise are teams with rookie contract QBs, and the league starts to experience a decline in popularity because of ennui with the status quo. Gen Alpha is already turning towards soccer ⚽️ in a major way.
Not to mention how much harder drafting is going to become when the greedy greedmongers in power college football get their way and only 50 or so teams are playing scholarship level football, with 25 of them being the power schools that hog all of the talent and sit a large portion of it on their benches.
The draft cap is what saves football from being like baseball. In baseball, the NY Yankees dominate because NY is a huge city, so they have more resources. There’s no way that Buffalo or Jacksonville could compete with a tenth of the cap that NY has.
Well i wanted to subscribe but then you dumped on our saviour jared goff.
Jkjk good points - i think as cap space increases we will see qbs being paid more in general. The lions were actually pretty fortunate to pay JG when they did since it kind of set the tone for how much ppl like lawrence, love, and dak could push for
As a cowboys fan I’m not paying Dak Prescott after this year unless we win a Super Bowl because even if we get to a Super Bowl we won’t be able to retain talent and if we win it at least Dak will have already cemented his legacy
Trevor Lawrence is a very interesting QB for me because as far as I remember in his college career he was already coronated as a future star NFL QB. He went 1st overall, he was a can’t miss prospect. And there was very little to make anyone think otherwise, he had the size, arm, work ethic. It was a no brainer. So his struggles are more unexpected than if he actually became a top 10 QB. I do agree that his team has failed him on multiple occasions so far but they’re at a point now where the excuses are running out and he has to put up or shut up. Getting his extension now was the best move for him because if he had a other bad season there would be questions on if the jags should move on from him
The biggest mistake the dolphins will make is paying Tua 50+ million. If the best QB in league is making less why would you wanna pay Tua more when he can’t do that same
The mistake is less about the $ amount than locking themselves into an expensive long-term deal (4 or 5y) with Tua. Tua is the weakest link in MIami, kept alive by McDaniel's special schemes and fantastic offensive weapons. Any QB would shine MORE than Tua, under such conditions. They should look for their next QB while playing Tua under his 5th year, and let him. Then rebuild for 1 or 2 years around the new QB, because lots of srtong players will be leaving very soon.
Judging a team for not taking a QB who has had a stellar career with another team is erroneous. Case in point, Brett Favre. He did not do well with the Atlanta Falcons but shined with the Packers. Another thing is a QB is usually only as good as the front line and WR core. Many QBs who may have had great careers in the NFL were destroyed by playing for teams with bad offensive lines and/or mediocre Wide Receivers. It is extremely rare to have a QB in the NFL that shines without these.
Paying a top 20 QB big money is fine. Doing so on a 3 year contract as Dallas did isn’t. Those 7+ year contracts allows teams to move money around constantly, the way a 3 year contract doesn’t.
If you move on from a top 20 QB chance is you have to spend major draft capital to move up. Even then the chance you will pick a prospect that doesn’t work out is larger than the chance that it will. If it doesn’t, everyone that advocated for the move will likely get fired. So there is a low chance for upside but larger chance for a downgrade or even losing your job.
At this rate in 5 years, every average quarterback will be making 50 mil a year and every other player will be paid like practice squad fodder.
Wish you would join the roundtable for shit talk sports with UrinatingTree, FivePoints, Barry McCockiner and That’sGoodSports
Tell them to bring me on 👀
If you look at the QB contracts as a percentage of teams pay roll, then Lawrence and Goff are no where close to the burrow contract.
i hope we let dak walk after this year, he's shown time and time again he can't get it done when it matters. unfortunately i could see him going somewhere else and getting to the conference chip, once there's less noise surrounding him. he clearly can't handle pressure, and all dallas is, is a pressure cooker. we need a guy like stroud to come in, and make their own culture. need that mentality and moxie. ofc the problem is there aren't many out there. id also like to see us trade micah for a walker type haul, and go get perkins in next years draft. he feels like a bigger distraction than anything atp, and just adds fuel to the fire. not too mention his iniquities in the playoffs as well.
Like the MVP award, QBs need their own category in the Salary Cap.
I mean I think every single one of them is overpaid besides mahomes, since he actually wins championships
Mahomes. In comparison to these new contracts, he's basically getting screwed. Mahomes was a bargain.
Goff’s extension brought him to $233MM over 5 years, that’s an average of $46MM/yr.
It annoys me how Lamar’s contract seems to get questioned the most when he literally won an MVP and all these other bums get the same money as him and do nothing.
Why so much hate on Goff? Wtf has Allen done? Goff’s numbers don’t lie. Top 5 QB gets top 5 pay. Holmes brought in Goff for a reason. He’s winning the team a Super Bowl….
It’s the narrative about him being not great while Trevor has the opposite

You raise some good points, but you did not mention one key point: How astronomically paying a QB, especially guys who have not led their teams deep into the playoffs, can hamstring a team when it comes time to paying some of the key players around them. Look at Dallas. They'll probably pay Dak, but may have to then choose between paying Micah Parsons or CeeDee Lamb. That's a tough choice.
I'd pay them both and let Dak walk and go with Trey Lance.
Who's going to be the next Cleveland? A fully guarateed quarter-billion for a guy sitting on the bench half his time there. Or even the next Broncos with Russell Wilson.
A few years ago this would be crazy talk but I’d rather have Jared Goff a hundred times over than TLaw.
I will never understand why QB's, or any player for that matter, always want the absolute most amount of money they can get. Like, you're already gonna make 10s of millions of dollars a year anyway, why not take team friendly deals to allow your teams to have more cap space to spend on good players, to make your roster better, to increase your chances of winning? Like are you TRYING to buys a super ultra mega yacht? Do you want the inevitably short lived-moniker of "highest paid NFL Quarterback?" I just don't get it
The biggest problem with the nfl is the overvalued position of qb we got average qbs or some who barely has done anything making 40-55 million meanwhile some players in different positions aren’t getting paid the money that they’re worth
As a chargers fan every time I hear about that 2022 playoff game my heart hurts a little bit more
I mean you said Jacksonville is a small market bro that’s why you haven’t heard about Trayvon Walker he had 10.5 sacks last year he had a sneaky good season.
Idk why people actually think dak isn’t getting paid. He is a great qb that can consistently get them to the playoffs. Most teams would give anythign just for that
Purdy gonna kill my niners cap
Losing big on QB investments is the trend in the NFL: Watson, Murray, Russ, D.Jones, Dak, Cousins, Carr, Garoppolo... why not continue? Franchises seem to afford it so easily, why not laugh and congratulate players for making the easiest money while they can?
gonna check out the pod but i stg if theres another better help ad…
There's not aside from the video / pod it was sponsored for
I’m a Bills fan but Trevor has been somewhat of a disappointment…I really thought he’d be that guy that could carry the team but he seems to need a lot more to be successful
I never heard an NFL QB described as a "tricky cookie." Did I hear that right? Pretty funny.

I wouldn’t agree with the statement that the Jags haven’t surrounded Lawrence with a decent supporting cast, at least on the offensive side. Etienne, Engram, Kirk, and Ridley were an above average skill group IMO. Lawrence and the D just collapsed down the stretch in 2023
Man, we dont have 60 Ms for Dak
If someone going to tell me that Justin Herbert is better than Jared Goff they need to check themselves into rehab. Goff has 5 playoff wins to Justin and Trevor Lawrence spectacular 1. Which in Trevor Lawrence difference it came against CHARGERS GOOD JOB.
I couldn’t wrap my mind around how Lawrence is worth that much to the Jags…but he actually did..decent..I think he’s going to need better options in the receiving corps.
Prediction: Lawrence takes the Jags to the Superbowl and loses to the Lions by 4! That would be epic
Jared is playing the best football of his career and is young, why would they get a new qb?
He is a viking fan and hates on the lions every single chance he gets
Yooo bts prolog u must be a Mike K descendent lol
I’m sorry Lawrence is good, a latter top 10 QB at best and top 15 at worst but is resetting the QB market? I don’t know if he is that good right now
The lions do have Jared Goff’s successor in Hendon Hooker
Bro hooker is going to be like 31 by the time goffs contract ends 😂
JA-RED GOFF, JA-RED GOFF, JA-RED GOFF
Dak gotta be on some pack if he think he getting that bag
So despite another Dak fail let’s overpay him because it’s what we do
I agree. Crazy world.
Goff is the man for Detroit. He’s a good QB that deserved the payday.
Great video however please fix the out of ordered picture frames 😂
Tua gets sooooo much disrespect .stats dont lie.
So not wanting to overpay 50m means disrespect?
I think it means they just don’t want to overpay!
Stats don't lie: Tua choked 4 times in a row in 2022 at the threshold of the playoffs, choked big time in 2023 vs the Bills for the crucial div title, and again vs the Chiefs. He's not a good QB, he's barely decent. Signing him for 4 or 5 years is a mistake. If Dolphins want trophies, that is. Otherwise, why not?

Justin Herbert?
Is Jared Goff a significantly better qb than Dak? You’re being dishonest if you say yes. Dak will cost a lot not because of how good he is but because of how much worse the AVAILABLE QBs are. Dallas has no real choice if they don’t plan a rebuild. CeeDee and Micah can’t wait for a rebuild. Gotta build around Dak more

Trevor isn’t good at the position and the team has other options
Needs to be emphasized how GM’s mostly do this cause they are scared and want to save their own ass, versus if the player deserves it. We all know Miami should try and trade tua or other prices and use draft ammo to get either ewers or beck next year but they won’t
Trevor Lawrence, Jared Goff & Tua Tagovailoa are not worth what the market is, but teams will follow the market anyways & overpay their mediocre players, then fans wonder why their team isn't good enough to compete for a championship.
Goff has as many post-season wins as Burrows, and the same number of Super Bowl and _FC Championship game appearances.
Goff has done way more it’s not close
The Goff contract may play into what Geno Smith might want/get, since they are very similar players (in the big picture)
Not even close lol
Geno got what he deserved last season
@@spidamitchell8311 Over the last 2 years, their stats are extremely similar. Geno also beat Goff in Detroit twice
Hi
As soon as detroits offensive coordinator leaves it’s over.
Tanner engstrand becomes OC?
He's coming to the Jets next year. He's been waiting three years for that job to open up. It will after this year.
The difference is that Trevor Lawrence still has upside. Goff doesn't
Goff has done way more than Goff before he got paid
Goff is a proven winner and the city of Detroit loves him. I don’t understand the hate when the QB market gets more expensive every year.
4:24 😂😂😂
QB salaries are out of control. The idea that almost EVERY starting QB getting signed resets the market is moronic and unsustainable. NO player should be paid significantly more than Mahomes because Patrick Mahomes is the best player in the league and it's not that close.
Mahomes gets payed less because he is on a longer contract. He also might be willing to get paid less if it means his team can help him out more.
Tom Brady took a pay cut so the Patriots would have more cap space so if a Quarterback likes the project going on and cares more about Super Bowl wins than money then they might opt to get paid less.
Agreed.
Well it's just stupid paying any player according to market value and not based on performance. You've got several QB's that really haven't done much as far as winning championships ,MVP 's etc making more than a QB like Mahomes that's led his team to thre Championships in last five seasons. It makes zero sense and really has gotten out of hand.
