Until I saw this ad, I never knew Mr. Clean goes this far back, and honestly, I wish they would air some of these old ads again, because they’re more wholesome than some of the ads we see now.

There was a move to push the Transatlantic accent during the early 20 century, That, Combined with the bad mics that can only be heard clearly with a nasal voice; Is the reason why they sounded the same.

I've never forgotten this commercial from 60 years ago, in 1960. I remember the song, of course, but also the final shot of him and the housewife standing in the outline of the house with the various objects arranged around them that Mr. Clean has cleaned.
I absolutely love the aesthetic of simplistic 1950's and 1960's animation.
And to think that it was done to save on cost per frame of animation…!

People have been wearing earrings (men too) for hundreds of years, go watch a pirate movie for instance...

It was not as socially acceptable for men to wear an earring back in the late 1950’s early 60’s but I guess Mr. Clean was the first hipster.
@@analogkid4957 Damn, I mean I know it was probably socially acceptable but it is kind of strange because most people followed the fashion sense at the time which was mostly looking like a lawyer and all but I guess because Mr clean is a product of commercial use then he has to be a bit different to stand out.
@@NusBH it was actually rare for men to wear earrings in the 1950’s except if you were a sailor or something. Mr. Clean may have been modeled after a pirate or sailor archetype (some type of outlaw).
However by the 1970’s after the hippie counterculture- men wearing earrings were more common so Mr.Clean wearing an earring was not as unusual.

I remember some ads in the late 80s still using part of the melody as background music, plus the closing "Mr. Clean, Mr. Clean" refrain...wasn't until years later that I found out this jingle dated back to the 50s!
