Is there a way to not send location with the preset messages? When I type a custom message it just sends a message without the map share link but when I send one of the preset messages it includes the map share link with location
Hi Tyler, Sorry for the late response. I'd never tried to send a quick message without the map link so I had to look into it a bit. If you didn't figure it out already, you can turn off the map links on your preset messages by logging into your explore.garmin.com account, clicking the Account tab, then scrolling down and unchecking the boxes in the 'SMS message configuration' section. Here's a link to Garmin's 'Frequently asked questions' site where I found the answer: support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=jKddQBPa7fAMfX9NDTWQd8 Scroll down to the section: "How Do I Add Location to Check-In Messages?" Try that and let me know if it works for you! Good Luck!
Yeah I've had that issue happen once too. My Quick Messages were updating but my Preset Messages wouldn't update. I finally left it alone and came back a few days later and it was updated. A few things you might try though: 1) Try syncing from both the website AND the explore app. 2) Make sure your phone and InReach are connected via bluetooth when you sync via your Explore app. 3) Make sure your InReach is outside with a clear view of the sky. Have you ever been ablet to update them? Did they update after you came back a few days later?
Great video. I have been trying to send just an SMS text message to my spouse (not using the Messenger/Explore App) but it never reaches her. She does have the app installed on her phone, but she is not always near Wifi and doesnt' have a data plan so the Messenger app is not always an option. My aim was to send her check in messages just as a text to her mobile phone but not needing to open the app on her end...is this possible?
Yeah, I've done that before. She doesn't need the app. Just add her phone number to you inreach contacts. Make sure you're sending your text to her phone number, not an email or Garmin address. She should get the text from a random number. All she has to do to send you a message back is to reply to that random number. Only other thing I'd check is make sure you have a valid subscription on your inreach. She doesn't have a block on random numbers does she? Not sure if her phone would think it's spam and block it
Hey! I haven't really used it much, but I noticed lately that if I select the 'messaging' icon at the bottom of the 'Explore' app, it now opens up the Garmin Messenger app. The Messenger app seems pretty much the same as what Explore used to have built in, but I guess I'll find out :)
Thank you Shawn - very clear and very useful
Thanks for the video, man. Good luck with your channel.
Very helpful! Thank you!

Any insight regarding why my preset messages aren't showing on my inReach? It has been syncd

How about using the Garmin messenger app?

So the other party needs to have the Messenger app to send the message from your phone?
Nope! If you send it to their phone number it'll just come in as a text message!
@@shawncarsten Ok, that’s cool. One less reason to get the inreach messenger.
