    • @marymarlow3646
      @marymarlow3646 3 дня назад +4

      @Serf_dumb
      It’s always convenient to blame NATO. It helps to avoid having to confront the reality that NATO is a defensive organisation that only acts as an organisation when a member invokes article 5 because they have been attacked. The only time that has happened, I believe, is after the US was attacked in September of 2001.
      People tend to equate the US with NATO.
      No NATO member is obliged to fight alongside the US without article 5 being invoked.
      And if you study the history of US wars you will see that in none of them have all NATO members chosen to do so. These member countries though have NATO standard equipment and NATO military training and so they are formidable.
      What we see in Ukraine is that before 2014 support for joining NATO was low and after it not possible…which is the way Putin operates. All it takes is some disputed territory and NATO membership is out of reach.
      And the consequence of that is what we see now. Although NATO members alongside a lot of the western world such as Australia are helping Ukraine, NATO itself is bending over backwards to avoid military confrontation with Russia. There have been a number of situations that could have instigated NATO involvement and they have all been ignored or played down.
      The lesson here is that Russia has nothing to fear from NATO or anyone else for that matter. It’s full of nukes. Putin knows that because he threatens to use them at least once a week.

    It is true that we can only speculate how Putin and trump will act. Living in the US I read a lot about trump. While I can’t read his mind, I can draw some possible. I can draw conclusions from what I read about the things he says and does. He seems to do only those things that enhance his sense of importance and ability to control, and his need to be liked and pandered to. Based on this, it strikes me that the speaker here is making some logical deductions about what trump might do. Same with Putin. I doubt that is useful policy to give no thought to possibilities, even the remote ones, that might have grave consequences. Having contingency plans for various scenarios makes sense, in my opinion.
