You seem like you're picking up how to play pretty well for a first-timer to me! There's so many games I wish I could play for the first time again, so you're in a nice spot to enjoy more.
I just started playing Zelda myself this is the first Zelda game that I've ever played before and I'm loving it learning it bit by bit the mechanics everything😊
It's going slowly. Which is fine for me. I am not in a hurry to "complete" the game. I am enjoying the journey. It took me a very long time to be willing to fight anything at all, but once I have some success fighting I get a little bit braver. I have to mentally prepare myself for bigger fights, so the day I took on Central Tower I had prepared for it. I have only done one Divine Beast so far and hoping to do the next one in the near future but there is so much to explore I often get side traced.

hold ZL to lock on an enemy, it makes fighting much easier
