    As Sydney grew Maroubra
    in the 40’s was like Bondi in the 20’s and Cronulla in the 60’s and halfway between the two.
    All built on sand dunes.

    Thank you Leslle My wife and I have justed shared 20 wonderful years of parents and 3 daughters in Maroubra,lived in Byng st overlooked the speed way and our schooling,I must get out our 8mm flim 1000s of ft .

    I suspect the image at 9:00 dates from around 1960-61 due to the FB or EK Holden vehicles there (one being a black/red taxi headed East and the white/blue parked headed West).
    And, on the subject of Holden vehicles, to the West in distance down Maroubra Rd., the blonde brick tower of the GMH Pagewood factory can be seen. When Holden closed the site in 1980, half of that huge block was repurposed as a WD & HO Wills cigarette factory, the other half to the South a rather large Westfield Shopping Mall.
