    U know why Honda is built to last? Because it’s not being put together by Americans. That’s why Polaris is so problematic with recall after recall. Zero pride in their work unlike workers in Japan I miss when Arctic cat used to be made in Japan

    • @NOTTApro142

      Still better than china. But yes. I don’t have a Polaris. A Honda. But yeah most American things don’t last very long. I have a 2005 250x. Old and grumpy but it still rips

    Hey, I love your builds! Just a quick tip here - if you shave off the casting marks, you can actually weaken the parts (the factory leaves them as they are for a reason). It is good to be thoughtful about which parts are worth/safe shaving.

    • @MattBerger02
      @MattBerger02  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the support! How do you know this? (Generally curious!) It is my understanding that casting lines (flash) is the excess material that is left over from the 2 piece casting process. They are left from the factory to save on time and cost. As long as you don't remove material from the part, only the casting flash, then this should not weaken the parts. I would imagine all structural analysis of the parts would be done without accounting for the casting flash, since this is a process that will slightly differ part to part.

    • @xzouix
      @xzouix Год назад

      @@MattBerger02 Initially I thought the same (wanted to shave some parts on my Yamaha). But then I heard this from two people (told separately).

    • @MattBerger02
      @MattBerger02  Год назад

      Do you know how those two people knew this? I've been doing a bunch of research on my own and have yet to find anything that would suggest deflashing would weaken the part. If a credible source can tell me that this does in fact weaken the parts, I want to make sure I never do it again. I am going to reach out to some engineering friends at Honda (automotive) to ask for their insight on this.

    • @xzouix
      @xzouix Год назад

      @@MattBerger02 Would be great if you shared the answer. I am going to ask someone who worked at Yamaha

    • @MattBerger02
      @MattBerger02  Год назад +1

      I just discussed this with 2 design engineers from Honda, a fabrication engineer from a Honda supplier, and a welding technician. I am also an engineer myself. Here is the unanimous conclusion - The flashing is a bi-product of the manufacturing process and is not removed due to time and cost. The casting line locations are selected for accessibility and aesthetics, not strength. The parts are designed to withstand whatever forces necessary without accounting for the flashing. In addition, since these parts are mass produced, the factor of safety is quite high. This means that even removing a little bit of material would not weaken it enough to put it below the designed strength of the part.
