Did you see that at 11:55 ? That's why i take incoming fire alert over priority target on all my cruisers because when i'm focus on someone and the incoming fire alert pop up on my screen it's time to zig and zag. After some times with experience you will know when you become the priority target. TIPS : showing broadside and rush head on help a lot to become one.
Myoko has one of the best AA on the IJN Cruisers considering the Tier it's at. Simply because this ship still retains it's old T8 AA defense, as well as the old range, which makes it one of my favourites in the line.
So true, one CV in ranked (think it was the first tier 7 ranked, when hatsuharu was still tier 7 and had great AA too) got pissed at me for interrupting his drop with defensive AA (and my Myoko is AA spec) so he started trying to drop me (and failed) then he started attacking me again because I was following his planes to where he was, think he got only 1 torp on me and that's because my Def AA was on cooldown. I shot at least 40 (might have been ~60 total planes don't remember) of his planes down, our CV basically had free enemies to farm.
ÿes, she got a bunch of 25mm guns with decent range. I had no problem shoot down some aircraft when they fly pass me. I think for notser only ship with AA rating same as atlanta is considering as good? lol
6:05 Don't forget Notser, Atago has GOOD Turret Traverse too! Between the turrets turning faster than the ship can, and the ship being so incredibly maneuverable - it is easy to keep all guns on target even when maneuvering! I get along with Atago better than I did with either the Myoko or Mogami, I feel like I take less citadel damage, and even though the reload is longer it makes up for it with a 29 second stock 180 time that goes down to, IIRC around 25-26 seconds with Expert Marksman! Also Atago's citadel FEELS much better protected than Mogami and especially Myoko. It's funny that I NEVER got along with the Myoko because of the TERRIBLE 45 Second 180 traverse time, I was always out turning those things, THEN I got the Myoko, and I TRIED the 155s, but I did not have IFHE - I did not re-spec my captain because I use him for my Atago VERY frequently - and IFHE would make the Atago significantly weaker - 3% fire chance on a ship with a long reload.
Got double citadeled by a Kurfurst at 14km in my atago while I had angled completely away. Not sure what else I could have done. That's one thing I hate about cruisers
@ lol the game has changed a bit in the two years since I commented. Now some cruisers have nearly untouchable citadels. (Smolensk) Or have the health to deal with battleships a bit more. (super cruisers)

Hey Noster, I liked the video a good review of the higher tier Japanese line. I had stopped at Mogami, wasn't sure I would go on up. I had some questions regarding the Ibuki but you answered those for me, and can see the point in taking that next step. I already have it researched I just need to buy it now.
That would've been some 6-9 overpens because of the angle. That's why the Zao is so smug: either you just deal the 10% damage on most of your shells or risk for a citadel which may end in no damage, that's why it's so strong.
I personally feel like the Atago and Mogami have been becoming increasingly hard to use well as maximum ranges have kept increasing for the cruisers of other lines + an increasingly passive meta which involves staying more and more at longer ranges and the constant damn smoke camping. It feels to me like it's getting rather difficult to find targets inside your range without essentially overextending since most other ships can comfortably hang back at longer ranges. Not to mention if you're in a japanese cruiser and get spotted as the ship closest to an enemy force, everyone knows they're a citadel pinata..
+Arthion I got four tips for ya: 1. If you're out-ranged by other ships, you should capitalize on your superior concealment. Escort friendly DDs to serve as an early warning. 2. Before you engage, you must assume a kiting position ready to retreat and gain distance. That is, turn away, and then angle before you start shooting. Search for a target, sneak up, then shell em while kiting. Rinse and Repeat. 3. You don't always need to go w the allied main fleet. Since you got good concealment, you can actually separate yourself a few kilometers and engage enemy flanks, esp. if they're enemy battleships because they cannot afford to turn their guns toward your direction when they're busy engaging your allies. 4. Use cover if you can. Been averaging over 70k dmg per game w Mogami for the past several months, can't go wrong with it.
Oh all these tricks work fantastically... when your allies aren't just camping like retards. Don't exactly fancy the idea of hiding all match and hoping for some leftover scraps late in the match when people finally have to close in. As for escorting DDs, if you try to help them vs an enemy DDs there's a good chance half the enemy team decide to open fire on you the second you get spotted + Don't really have much luck with kiting, just tend to get citadeled through the ass or from some bullshit shells that scraped the paint off the side regardless. So far the only thing that seems to work consistently if cover. Sorry if I sound excessively negative but just haven't had any enjoyable matches in ages.
Japanese HE keeps them relevant. I found the Fuso to be disgusting to use at times. Like... 10k HE salvo plus 3 fires? lol balanced? Even in the wake of the new cruisers, Japanese ships are easily still some of the best and have the best passive traits. Good HE shells go a LONG way (no pun intended) in a battle.

High tier matches are all about the DDs. The team with dead DDs will lose 90% of the time. If you value victory, protect DDs at all costs even if you die. I do it.
Dude I guess you must have way more luck than me when kiting then, whenever I kite I usually evade 9/10 shells or so but somehow that last lucky shell nearly always ends up being a damn citadel no matter which angle it came from

Zao's citadel is more troll than any other tier 10 cruisers - it is unusual to be citadeled enough to die in one salvo, at least from what I have seen. She is my first and only tier 10 currently, as she is an amazing ship! Her AA is better than just "okay" as even her shortest range guns have 3.1 km range and 103 DPS - which means that for personal protection at least even Torp Bombers will have to come within that radius - which is behind the 123 DPS and 99 DPS radii as well. Her AA is pretty much on-par with the Moskva's - with more DPS total but 0.7km less range on the longest, and Moskva has 24 more DPS at 3.5, but then a good 53 DPS lower at 3.1 km - so apart from the 700 meter start for the long range 130mm guns on the Moskva, I would say that the two are roughly equal -0 oh and Moskva has 111 DPS on the 130mm DP guns, where Zao has 123 DPS on her 100 mm D)P guns with the 0.7km less range - so another 12 DPS gain for Zao. Total DPS on the Zao is higher at 335 stock, Moskva is just 284. So again for personal defenses, Zao is better. I am considering getting Advanced Firing as possibly my last skill for my IJN cruiser captain - possibly... I think that I may end up getting Vigilance instead as well as Priority Target.
Consumables: AA boost vs hydro: Given weak AA you play hydro vs. the AA boost consumable. . . I go back and forth, usually ending up with the AA boost in a game with no carriers. Hydro seems useful only for spotting incoming torpedoes, especially if you are borrowing someone else's smoke. If you are 4.2 km (or whatever) from a DD in smoke your life tends to be short and end violently.
Hey Notzer, I just got the the tier 10 IJN Destroyer and all I can say is wow that thing is freaking amazing. My first Salvo of torpedoes I fired at a Montana 6 hit out of 15 with 84k damage. But I have a question for you which torpedo should I use the 12km 67kph torpedoes or the 8 km 76kph torpedoes? Thanks can't wait to hear back from you.
George Gkavlos i forgot to add i have 5.9 detection, i have moved my DD captain up from tier to tier. I like the 8km torps speen but dont like how close i have to get. Thank for your opinion. I will take it into consideration.
Anthony Ware the problem with the 8km torpedo is only that you have to go close, it is better than 12km because of the speed but for my game style 12km it's better, my opinion try them and choose which works for you, but be very careful NOT torp friendly ship's because i have bad experience from Shima "friendly" torps, enjoy the game

Also - Japanese cruisers may have suffered a bit less over time from the eternal game of nerfs-n'-buffs than others. 20 listed on warships dot today: for all time, 12 of 20 were at 50% win rate or above (NA server). Results last two weeks: More or less the same, 8 out of 17 listed. Tier 4 Yubari is king of the hill. But that is a premium that has not been offered in quite some time (closed Beta as I recall). So very experienced players in Tier 4 games (with a quirky little "destroyer leader"). If we throw that one out the 50% cut arrives at 7 out of 16. This is more-or-less consistent with the general cruiser-and-destroyer nerf over time. I.E. if you are an average player and want to win, don't play cruisers or destroyers.
Great cruiseline to start with, use HE most of the time. Like Notser said dont give them your broadside. Not bad apples in the line like some other nations have (german: York, american: pensacola). Torpedoes are great for fighting retreat, in general dont try to use them offensively when you are spotted, you have to give your broadside to use them and WILL be punished for that.

Im just glad that B-65 (ingame known as Zao) dosnt have its historical main armaments, that would be 3x3 of 310 mm main guns, bb's would cry them selves to sleep. More history: ship was originaly suposed to be a supercruiser based on yamato design just smaler and faster think of it as a pocket yamato. Luckly for the alies 2 planed ships of its class were never compleated due to shift of prioritys in IJN war needs transfering funds to projects related to building smaler ships and suport vessels or in other words quantity over quality not that ships that they made as a replacement were not good they just didnt had the oompf this monster would in 1w1 comparison :D
Do NOT forget Atago has faster turrets than any other IJN Cruiser as well! Between the Torpedoes, Turret Traverse, Concealment and Heal - Atago EASILY makes up for her long gun reload! With Concealment Expertise you get down to JUST 9.1 km surface detection - when I take heavy damage and survive it I often play her cagey, and launch torpedoes outside of my detection range, usually with the help of islands so I can get back into cover to not give away an obvious torp drop!
IJN Heavy Cruisers dont have bad AA, they have bad *Offensive* AA. Most of the AA batteries on the Myoko are self-defence but numerous, meaning if you spec the Captain with AA in mind you can escort your BBs, which is what Heavy Cruisers are good at since all of them have problems with DDs at short range, and CVs wont see you until its too late
Zao :torps loses a bit of range gain Speed ........wich makes them ununsably unless you want to comit suicide. Aoba-ibuky can lanch their Torps from stealth at 12 km if they head your way and hit Zao cant BECAUSE the Speed works aist it.......any IJN captain would LOVE to trade ibujis torps for the never used F3
I *really* love my Aoba - It's one of my 'keeping it forever' ships. I play it really quite aggressively, get in quick, dance around, faster short-range torp skill... Just generally a 'do as much damage as quickly as possible' type build. I rarely survive a match, but I don't care (usually). ~JD
A note to all: Japanese cruisers tiers 5 to 10 are all extremely tanky and difficult to citadel when angled, but when broadside the citadel is easily reachable, excepting the zao's troll armour
Aoba and Myoko actually have decent aa for their tier. Obviously not Cleveland godly but pretty decent. Mogami, not really. Atago's AA is just completely trash even with DFAA.
So.. Anyone plays Zao with the Main Battery Modification 3 ? :D I would like to see a game like this Notser, just for fun. 12 sec reload time.. Damn ! And would be nice that you could change the upgrades directly in game @wargaming
Don't get the love for the mogami. One of the worst ships in the game even with ifhe. It more or less forces you to go into distances where you have more or less no backup and is more or less sneezed back to the port by everyone who is gonna focus fire the crap out of you. An tier 6 DD can citadel that crap.
Jc Serquiña Gotta admit, I'm not the best player but I have have some really awesome rounds with mogami. But mot of the time 8 have to struggle just to hit 50k dmg/match just due to matches being played more and more at 17 km range and above at tier 8-10. Guessing I'm more of a hipper-guy ;-)
Jc Serquiña Doesn't really matter if it suits me or not. It's bloody over hyped. The only good thing it has going for it is dmg output, the rest is more or less shit. You can't even angle from the smallest calibers, crappy range, almost stops in turns. But it's at least better now that it has better turret traverse. Gotta admit though. The matches that plays out well in Mogami is very satisfying.
Love the japanese cruisers. they are so much fun weaving between steatlh missions and battling it out at longer ranges

Are 155 still the magic ticket on mogami? I just got mine and they are awesome no question but I'm not sure if I should even bother trying the 203s..

More history: ship was originaly suposed to be a supercruiser based on yamato design just smaler and faster think of it as a pocket yamato. Luckly for the alies 2 planed ships of its class were never compleated due to shift of prioritys in IJN war needs transfering funds to projects related to building smaler ships and suport vessels or in other words quantity over quality not that ships that they made as a replacement were not good they just didnt had the oompf this monster would in 1w1 comparison :D
Do NOT forget Atago has faster turrets than any other IJN Cruiser as well! Between the Torpedoes, Turret Traverse, Concealment and Heal - Atago EASILY makes up for her long gun reload! With Concealment Expertise you get down to JUST 9.1 km surface detection - when I take heavy damage and survive it I often play her cagey, and launch torpedoes outside of my detection range, usually with the help of islands so I can get back into cover to not give away an obvious torp drop!

IJN Heavy Cruisers dont have bad AA, they have bad *Offensive* AA. Most of the AA batteries on the Myoko are self-defence but numerous, meaning if you spec the Captain with AA in mind you can escort your BBs, which is what Heavy Cruisers are good at since all of them have problems with DDs at short range, and CVs wont see you until its too late

Zao :torps loses a bit of range gain Speed ........wich makes them ununsably unless you want to comit suicide. Aoba-ibuky can lanch their Torps from stealth at 12 km if they head your way and hit Zao cant BECAUSE the Speed works aist it.......any IJN captain would LOVE to trade ibujis torps for the never used F3

I *really* love my Aoba - It's one of my 'keeping it forever' ships. I play it really quite aggressively, get in quick, dance around, faster short-range torp skill... Just generally a 'do as much damage as quickly as possible' type build. I rarely survive a match, but I don't care (usually).

The biggest reason is that you lose 5 guns when you go to the 203s.
Fail division Pepsicola when Notser was showing off the Ibuki...
A note to all: Japanese cruisers tiers 5 to 10 are all extremely tanky and difficult to citadel when angled, but when broadside the citadel is easily reachable, excepting the zao's troll armour
Aoba and Myoko actually have decent aa for their tier. Obviously not Cleveland godly but pretty decent. Mogami, not really. Atago's AA is just completely trash even with DFAA.

Don't get the love for the mogami. One of the worst ships in the game even with ifhe. It more or less forces you to go into distances where you have more or less no backup and is more or less sneezed back to the port by everyone who is gonna focus fire the crap out of you. An tier 6 DD can citadel that crap.
+Gundolf300 I've had 60% WR and over 73k avg dmg for the past 6 months (235 matches) in the Mogami. Guess you just dunno how to use it :3

Gotta admit, I'm not the best player but I have have some really awesome rounds with mogami. But mot of the time 8 have to struggle just to hit 50k dmg/match just due to matches being played more and more at 17 km range and above at tier 8-10.
Guessing I'm more of a hipper-guy ;-)

Doesn't really matter if it suits me or not. It's bloody over hyped. The only good thing it has going for it is dmg output, the rest is more or less shit. You can't even angle from the smallest calibers, crappy range, almost stops in turns. But it's at least better now that it has better turret traverse.
Gotta admit though. The matches that plays out well in Mogami is very satisfying.
