Oceanborn is one of the best albums from Nightwish! Tarja has an angelical voice!
Alisson Bryan Oceansborn and Wishmaster, yes... also Once.
Angels Fall First, Oceanborn and Wishmaster are Tarja's classical singing style albums. Then in Century Child they made her sing contemporary style, and same continued in Once. So to me definately the first 3 albums are best Nightwish ever did.
I think it's THE best one. My first album of theirs was Once, and I've listened to a hell of a lot of that, but it didn't even compare once I'd heard Oceanborn about 5 years later
Whilst I may be replying to a 4 year old comment (because youtube suddenly recomends me this video in 2020), I can say that not only is Oceanborn the best Nightwish album, but it's my absolute favourite album of all time.

Everybody talks about tarja but noboy recognisted how good emppu is. He was still at a verry young age here but nailed all the solos!
So right ...I think they all are so awesome and so young here ! This was the first song and time I heard about them.
Johannes Silver Yeah and unfortunatly Emppu quitted brother firetribe. I got the chance to listen to the new nightwish album and there is only one guitar solo. So now we have to wait 5 years or so to hear new Emppu stuff and probaply we will get just a short solo again. Hopefully Emppu finds a new projekt with more space to shine or Tuomas will give him more space.
Yes honestly emppu is the most important member in nightwish, without his riffs even tarjas singing wouldnt be enough

So young and extremely talented, this performance hits me right in the soul.
The look of Tarja here is very beautiful, i'm old enough to remember well when rock/goth looked like this, it was the unique style of the mid 90s.

This band was very fresh, powerful, unique, mysterious, atmospheric and full of soul when they started.

I think the guys were pretty fresh out of the Finnish military service. While some serve it as a civil service (with a few religious minorites admited a permit not to serve), most of men 20 yrs of age go through 6-9 months of military service.

Nightwish probably paid to perform live on national tv at the time, imagine that. I remember seeing this live on tv. The band was so inexperienced but talented at the same time.

I definitely prefer Tarja's voice for this song as opposed to Annette's. Of course the the songs were written with her voice in mind so that would make sense. I am really looking forward to hearing songs from Imaginarium written with Annette's voice in mind. =)

All they are so funny in this video. Short hairs, no tattoos. But the music is fantastic - it's like an ocean of sounds which swallow you completely. Sorry to say - no Tarja without Nightwish and vice versa. Who are they now - some band. Very good, but that's it.
How can singer, who doesn't do any songs or even take part in training sessions before recording, be soul of the band? If somebody is soul of Nighwish, it's Tuomas, who makes almost every song and lyrics for the band.

@Alymf They are still good, I belief. Just not operatic as they were. But they use REAL orchestras and choirs nowadays. I love both new and old anyways. A true NW fan loves them still.

She sang the classical fashion, their first 3 albums. Then Tuomas got the stupidest idea in music history and requested a great classical singer sing in contemporary rock-pop metal style.

Shade Zsasz Well rehearsed I think so yeah. Floor has a really nice operatic voice. She sang higher on After Forever.
Floor doesn't sing classical way. She visits shortly classical style in some of her songs, but only shortly: she doesn't create the operatic spaceous voice. Tarja had two versions of "Sleeping Sun", classical and contemporary: both Anette and Floor sing the contemporary version. They made Floor a new arrangement for Deep Silent Complete which isn't classical sung like Tarja's version is.

She says herself that she is not good in it and doesn't even like it: "I've studied classical singing, but not to a great extent. For me, I'm way more at home in heavy metal than I am in classical music. I don't even really like it, the style of singing implemented. Opera, I've tried. I started hearing it, of course with NIGHTWISH, having Tarja [Turunen] in the band. That for many singers was like, 'What's this?' Tarja started taking private lessons to classical style singing when she was 15, at the same time she went to Savonlinna highschool of arts. At 17 years old she started specializing to classical style singing in that school. Then she went studying classical singing to Sibelius Akatemia (university level music academy) where she was 1996 - 2000, so this was recorded her second last year in that school, after 4 years of her classical education. Then she went to Germany Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe for another 3 years. So she has 9 years of fomal classical studies, but she is a private pupil of vocal teachers for this day, at least two of them are known, both classical singing professors, the other is Marta Blanco, Argentinian opera singer and professor, the other is Mitsuko Shirai, Tarja's professor from Karlsruhe.

Tarja's was only 19 at this time, and she might have had some so-called "baby-fat" left, from when she was a child(not that I can see ANY fat, on this beautiful woman).

@cynn753 they together were the best, a great voice with wannabe-metal musicians, and a great musicians with a softer voice will never be the same. I know three bands totally different, old nightwish, new nightwish and tarja turunen. a lot of people only only take into account the voice regardless of the musicians. That without count that Tuomas is better composer than Tarja's composers
