That King of Tone Mini Fuzz was definitely my favorite in this demo. I love the rolled down sound of fuzzes more than the dimed sound. Both have their place of course.
Yes, it got more real at the end when RJ was turning the fuzz down. When I saw Hendrix in '67 he didn't have the fuzz dimed but about 2 o'clock.
That Kingtone Fuzz sounds epic... ugh... the fuzz journey is never ending!
You guys really need to make this a regular collab. This is always fun to watch and listen to and you get along great.

The red band of gypsies fuzz is an octavia circuit without octave effect
Expresso FX are top notch for me. I own 3 of his pedals and every one of them looks and sounds incredible. They are made with the best components and attention to detail. Hand wired on old school circuit board. Sof the builder is a no nonsense guy and his website tells you exactly what goes into his pedals with optional extras like the battery toggle switch, LED, and bias control. He answers emails promptly and is great to talk to.
How did you choose which transistor type for your Silicon Fuzz Expresso? I went to order and was stumped by that.
kungstu22 I have a Germanium Fuzz and went for the Mullard CV7005 transistors after emailing Sof to get his recommendation. If you have any questions about what options to get just email him and he will tell you anything you want to know. Replys pretty quickly too.
That is true, Sof is very responsive and helpful. I have two of his pedals and they are fantastic and worth every penny. Super responsive pedals and well built.
I just ordered a Fuzz Bender Mk. I from Expresso, looking forward to getting it in hand. I have a Supa, but I need a traditional Mk. I.
for real, you hit the gypsy fuzz and I thought "yep that's way fuzzier" and then you turned to the gypsy style fuzz face and I thought "wait wtf,. thats goddamn wooly" lol - such a sick shootout, not to mention the unboxing/'guest star' pedal at the end lol. Nothing to make me want to replace my eqd black ash unfortunately (i fkn love that pedal lol) - but definitely a sick set of fuzzes to demo/compare!

Great demo! The Fulltone Octafuzz, in Fuzz mode (not Octave), does the whole range from almost completely clean, through overdrive, to fuzz. Pretty cool. But I loved the smooth tone of the Kingtone Fuzz.
I have a Joe Bonamassa Fuzz face. It has germanium transistors. The pedal was made specifically for humbucker guitars however I play primarily through a strat and it sounds great and cleans up so well I actually use it for my clean tone a lot of the time.

You guys rock! Thanks for doing this shootout for all the Hendrix heads- got any insight into approximating the fuzz guitar tone on "One Rainy Wish" from the Axis album? (without trying to buy a prescription electronics experience)
For silicone fuzz the Deep Trip BOG is incredibly natural sounding and genuine later Hendrix (Band of Gypsys) tone. It's beyond any silicone fuzz I've heard you guys were presenting in these two shootouts.

Thanks RJ and Papa, the Dunlop Gypsy Fuzz would have been my choice, as for sounding like Jimi, and the price. The King Tone, I'm sure if you played with it more it was a killer as well, but for 150 more, if you got it, its good. But for me the Rents to dam high.
Jimi would do a neat effect where his guitar would emerge from a cloud of fuzz, like in Voodoo Child. The germanium pedals for sure have that potential.

The only fuzz I have is the big muff triangle reissue, which I love. I’m looking for a germanium fuzz and I’m considering the Expresso fuzz face with cv7005 transistor or the crazy tube circuits constellation fuzz. Do you have any thoughts on that? Hobby guitarist to the stars over at RJ's now, it's only fair! I purchased the MXR (yes, Dunlop) Super Badass Variac Fuzz because I like the simulated dying battery sound that can be dialled in. I'm not a big fan of Electro-Harmonix Big Muff yet Ronnie Montrose and Kurt Cobain seemed to use it just fine.
The germanium sounds brilliant. What transistors are in that version?
Fuzz Face minis have an internal trim pot for bias control. Look inside the battery hatch 😊👍

I picked up the Iridium I like the low gain aspect of it but still might have to get an Ivor FF clone but really don't like full out spitty stuff I like the clean up tones best

R.J., I don't know if you've already shared the story on how you came across the Strat you used in Pt 1 of this series but we'd love to know how you came to own that awesome guitar. :)
it funny how all of these fuzz face type pedals sound so gainy, i had one made for me by an french company that no longer exists unfortunately, and the guy told at that time that he would made mine with two OC75 transistors i think, and i don't know if it's these transistors but that pedal is low gain fuzz! It cleans up beautifuly tho.
but now you kinda made me wanna go back and chase that hendrix tone again, i thought i was done with pedals but clearly i'm not.

The 2 Band Of Gypsys Dunlop pedals demoed are of copied circuit of the Roger Mayer Fuzz (supposedly a modified octavia without the octave transformer), built into a repurposed red fuzz face enclosure with white knobs, that Hendrix used in '69. Would have been sweet to hear an RM Axis fuzz in the mix though.

Cool demo guys. My only feedback, can you use a more stock guitar? That Strat is obviously heavily modded. To be honest I struggled to differentiate the fuzz sounds because of the humbucker. If you're doing the Hendrix thing, surely you should use a single coil guitar and maybe throw a humbucker in for comparison. Looking forward to the next vid.
Good point - in part 1 (link in description ) we use my guitar which is a more stock setup.

King tone and gypsy sound best to me. kingtone is hard to get tho.
I think also many guitarists fail to understand just because you can play guitar doesn't mean you're talented not at all
What would b a good fuzz to get and it clean up good when i turn the volume pot down .
Pretty much all of these (and part 1) do that well, they just have different tonal characteristics. Some are brighter when you turn down.

Wait you can run a fuzz face in another way then both knobs cranked completely xD
my humble opinion, if You wanna let a fuzz play well: first in chain, a goof Jfet Buffer (or a 15 USD buffer, doesn't matter), than You fabolous fuzz, last a reverb. If You are lucky and can find someone who is able to clone You an original Octavio (not the shitty Dunlop), You won't need a buffer though.... Last but not least, if You can afford to play 5 watts at 10 or whateer amplifier at 10, You will see and hear, the magic sound will start to come out....

Wonder why no one trys to come up with their own tones with these pedals instead of copying someone else's tone? To much of this is it because no one has any real talent? maybe it's a lack of creativity I personally feel it's both

What? No Analogman pedals?? What!?? Fulltone 69, Sunface and MJM London Fuzz are in my top 3. Dunlop sucks
