Ok Taylor .. this was my FAVORITE video of yours this year. It was like an action packed movie with GOATS, THUNDER and DRAMA … oh and a BUG in the tent
I have to agree with you George, I think she showed more of her personality in this one than any other. I would consider that day of hiking pretty exciting.
Those goats!! The party place to be!! I am sorry, but it gave me a chuckle this morning!! So glad Fresh Grounds helped yesterday. You have had an eventful couple of days. Those goats have been on several videos..wonder if they escaped their home!! Hope the next day was good. Thanks for the vlog..it makes my day.
It was like the goats were SO happy to see you. I was terrified just watching them coming toward the phone. You are a tough one girl. Good vibes only coming your way. I think "Thunder on the Ridge" should be a book title👍🏻
Taylor you survived the dreaded leg licking goats of southern Virginia. Yet another example of your legendary status of an Appalachian thru hiker. Onward to Katahdin
OMG! Those are the same goats I ran into last year, Oct 21, 2022 around mile marker 648.1 north of Pearisburg on the way to Pine Swamp shelter! I nicknamed them the NOBO AT goats because they came up and were licking me and checking me out for about 5 seconds then took off heading north on the AT! I managed to get them on video too! It was just what I needed at the time since I was feeling a bit lonely and down. Really enjoying following your journey and thanks for mentioning us on your day 24 hike. I am one of the SOBO hikers you met on that stretch going thru the Roan Mountains in early April. You are definitely an inspiration! KEEP GOING! YOU ROCK!
This was the funniest video you’ve made so far! I think you let your personality shine through a little bit, and it was great. I laughed out loud while hiking on a trail myself listening to this when the goats came up to you. Someone looked at me like I was crazy.
Glad you got to hike that part of trail you missed last year. The goats were funny. Hate it started raining so bad before you got to shelter. The deer were beautiful. Safe travels.
A) Fresh Ground is magic through and through B) Yep, I think I'd be intimidated by a bunch of goats running toward me too. C) Walking through that kind of thunderstorm is scary and miserable and draining. Glad you had a safe place at the end of it.
I'm glad you got to see the 🐐 lol. I live on the WV side, and we have had some farmers that those goats escaped from. They have actually been up their for a couple of years now. Safe journeys!
Taylor, glad you had a better day. Huge shout out to "Fresh Grounds" for helping Taylor on her journey..and all the other hikers he helps!!!! ONWARD!!!!
Yes, Freshground, has shared alot of love with the AT. Think I met him in 2011-2. Thanks, bro, man . . . eggs O/e, toast n' grits! Doing really well, 'Namzha' . . . see you up the trail! Loved the 'goat attacks', make use of hikin' stix.
Taylor, now that was funny with the goats. They just wanted to be friendly! I always carry a whistle on a string around my neck, it will scare off most animals. Glad your sports were back on the positive side. Keep the videos coming, following your daily vlogs!
I think the goats “got your goat” this day but I agree that that many large ones together is intimidating when you don’t know them. As with most, maybe all, herd animals if you do have to get aggressive with them target the lead or “boss” animal. If he/she backs off then generally they all will do so, but I think you handled the situation as well as it could be handled. What a day though! Welcome to the Appalachian Trail!
Just finished that section of the trail and I had a brief encounter with the goats and a rather large black snake. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
Was about to get up but saw this was the next video and wanted to see the goat situation, lol. Did this section about two years ago as part of the triple crown. The shelter on that ridge is probably one of the most beautiful have been to with the view. Also ran into a thunderstorm while on that ridge and in the open; probably one of the sketchiest times have had on trail. No goats though, lol. Happy trails!
That was one of the more interesting hiking days I have seen in a long time lol. Days like that make memories for sure. Except getting soaked in the rain, I call it a great day.
I live on a farm in NH with livestock, including goats. It was strange to see that many goats in the woods. I can tell you that goats LOVE salt so no doubt that being sweaty made them converge on you. Definitely an interesting video!
Bless your heart that was a lot in a day. The goats were just a little to nosy . The hail and rain was bad enough. I hope you had a good nights sleep that night. Stay safe and Happy Hiking ⛺️🥾💞
The goats needed salt. You eat a lot of salty food. When you are in bear country make sure your food and any candy bar wrappers are not inside your pack and put everything that smells of food in scent proof plastic bags. This includes toothpaste. Be ready to ditch your food bag. Bears can smell you from far away. Keep trusting your gut. You are amazing! I have learned so much from your courage. I watch you every morning when I have my coffee. I went on a solo camping trip to Oahu in February and was attacked by teeny mosquitos , bitten by a spider, attacked by weird flying black crickets, encountered 50 mph gusts of winds, rainstorms, thunder and lightening the entire 9 days of camping . It was an adventure, no regrets. Anyone who thinks that you spent too many days sleeping in a warm cozy safe place at night has probably never been a female solo camper. Be well, be safe! This video was fantastic, loved the animals and the bugs.
This vlog is hilarious 🤣🤣 already saw the goats on your insta and it’s still funny, my husband and I are cracking up. Seriously though I’d be freaked! “The party place to be for the wilderness” “am I dramatic? No I’m not dramatic. This is a dramatic situation.” You’re sooo over this day 🤣 we can all laugh about it now lol
I think I was one of the section hikers at the shelter that was going south. It's been interesting to see you do parts of the same trail. I'm enjoying the videos. It's also interesting that RUclips suggested your videos and I recognized you. The Almighty Algorithm speaks. :)
This was a great video Taylor. Thanks for sharing both the highs & lows of thru-hiking! Watching you adapt to and overcome every situation is inspirational.
The goats must have recognized you from your videos! They must be subscribers!!!
The complete randomness of goats running towards you on the trail is hysterical....and weird 😂
8:00 “Don’t be scared. We Goat 🐐 You Babe” 😅
That goat thing is the funniest video I have ever seen of the AT 😂😂😂 I’m dead! Lol
Hi traveling salt lick, glad you enjoyed the goat bath (at first). Ha ha ha
Making Goat friends on the trail! Awesome!

What an adventure filled day! Goats and a Thunderstorm!
You rock! Long miles, goats, rain, hail, and you made it in good fashion with a good attitude. Bravo.

As it was for me in 2015, Goats Do Roam near Pearisburg!
That is a gorgeous ridge, especially looking to West VA. But no place to be for a hailstorm!. Glad you made it down to the Pine Swamp.
I laughed so friggin hard at the goat army hahaha. Im up here in Maine watching and preparing for next years AT hike :) You are awesome
Beautiful!!! Trees and hills...I've been there VT.
Wow, what a day! I remember seeing those goats on another hikers video. It's so weird.
I cackled over the goats 😂😂
This was the funniest video you’ve made so far! I think you let your personality shine through a little bit, and it was great. I laughed out loud while hiking on a trail myself listening to this when the goats came up to you. Someone looked at me like I was crazy.
Glad you got to hike that part of trail you missed last year. The goats were funny. Hate it started raining so bad before you got to shelter. The deer were beautiful. Safe travels.
What a strange day filled with mixed emotions and goats.... who would have thought goats!!! I saw Ramdino's report, it's so crazy. Glad you're okay..😊
A) Fresh Ground is magic through and through B) Yep, I think I'd be intimidated by a bunch of goats running toward me too. C) Walking through that kind of thunderstorm is scary and miserable and draining. Glad you had a safe place at the end of it.

Oh, my! A day to remember.
It’s not the bears that you have to worry about on the AT...it’s the goats! 😁
No no no no no!! This vlog was sooo funny. Right Cody?
Thanks for sharing your journey with us Totally loved the goats
Goat attack was funny as hell
Great video, Taylor. Lots of drama & excitement, just like a Steven Spielberg movie. Even so, you made almost 20 miles. Impressive. Walk on.
T, wishing you the best. Know it was a wild day but I really enjoyed your video today. Thanks for bringing me along.
