Used to fish here 30 years ago , it’s always been an awesome tailwater fishery . Got invited to the Elktrout lodge once outside of Kremmling and got to fish the ranch below where you were , giant fish but private float through only . Also fished the Troublesome , Williams Fork , the Colorado plus a bunch of ranch ponds all in that area . Fishermens paradise. Thanks for the memories :-)
Man, that was great. I grew up in Dillon in the 70's and 80's and the Blue was my home water. I mainly fished below the Dillon lake dam before it got developed with factory stores etc. Had no need to drive way down to Green Mountain to get good fishing but wow, that place was great. The quality of fish in there along with the beauty was awesome to see. Also, we used to jump that cliff into the reservoir at 3:08. That was fun to see. Keep up the good work!
Yeah, it was a good day. Flows as of 07/22/20 are surprisingly hovering around 400cfs. That’s a great flow to wade fish it. Might have to head back in the next couple days.
Blue River Bowling Balls! They will be death of me 🤣 Hope all the gear made it! Great day out on the water, and such a beautiful area to fish. Just subbed to the channel and look forward to following along in all your adventures! dan
Incredible videos. Just got on your channel. I have watched four so far. What flies were working on the blue. Love the Indian Peak series. Look forward to more videos.
Paul, thank you. I’m glad you’re enjoying our videos. As far as flies go, it really depends on the flows and time of year, but there is an abundance of caddis, BWOs, and stone flies. Grey RS2s, Graphic Caddis, and flashback pheasant tails will bring plenty of trout to the net during the spring months.
13:18 about the Rollerskates and slick bowling balls!!!Wear felt with Teflon or aluminum or steel screws the best shoe for that river!!! Cabela’s has a great pair for under $100. Thick felt soul with aluminum screws!!! Go to Ace grab one of the screws from your boots and asked a salesman for the softest screw they have in that size and use that screw!!! you’ll never fall again in the Blue!!!
So fun to watch.. I've driven over that dam many times and never paid attention to the road that follows the river down stream. How far a walk down to the river from your parking spot? Is the gun for people or bears....
Not far, 100 yards. The gun is for wildlife. I had a run in with a mountain lion years ago, so now I carry just in case. Thank you for watching. I'm grateful you enjoyed the video. -Tim
Awesome video I'm over here at work passing time. Would you recommend this area for mid March? Not from the area and I'm coming up for my brother in-laws birthday to do some euro nymphing. Not sure what would be best mid-march considering snow levels and accessibility. I would GREATLY appreciate any advice you are willing to share or even if there's a better river that's within 2 hours of Lakewood area to go to during Mid March. Please and thank you. Tight lines!!!
Yes. Back in 2011 I was fishing with my buddy Kris and his dog Otto in Cheesman Canyon in Colorado. Otto was attacked by a mountain lion. Ever since, I carry that with me. -Tim
Awesome video. Outstanding fish! Do you think this section would be worth floating and fishing all the way to the boater access near the confluence with the Colorado River?
Yes. I use split shot on my line to get the nymphs down. I attached a link to a video I did about fishing tail waters. In it I explain a little about my rig. -Tim ruclips.net/video/aNJexeqtRnc/видео.html
@@CombatFlyFishing great net, I asked because I accidentally left mine at the beach last year. It looked a lot like yours, when I saw it, I had to ask. I miss I it, hoped I might run into one day. Keep up the vids, Ryan
Great video! Have a couple questions if you don’t mind: 1: Is this public area above or below the Jurassic park section? Where is the drop in to get down? Do you have coordinates? How close to the dam did you start? Is the parking area 3 miles below or did you hike?
Landon, it really depends on the flows, and the water I’m fishing, but for these tail waters I like to tight line nymph when the fish or the run is close or within wading distance, otherwise I use an indicator system if I have to cast any distance. -Tim
Hi Tim. Do you recommend access from the Green Mtn Dam side or is it possible to hike in downstream from CO-9 ? Thanks in advance if you wish to answer this for me.
Nice video! That one around 8 minutes looked like a nice cutbow (Far from an expert). Approximately what was the date you took this trip? I'm going out there in a week and hoping runoff hasn't started yet.
Food for thought on production, move the mic from your chest/chin when moving a lot. There is a lot of heavy breathing in the audio. Just trying to provide production criticism. Great fish!
Haha! That is so funny that you say that. My wife just got done telling me exactly that. I guess it’s time to come up with a better system for this mouth breather! -Tim
Incredible VIDEO!! My boss and I are discussing heading here Memorial Day weekend, would you mind suggesting a few flies? Thanks in advance-watch all your videos
Well, I use the same flies I use for any of the Colorado tailwaters. Beatis patterns like P-tails, RS2s, Barr's Emergers, and Chocolate Thunders in sizes 18-22 will bring a fair amount of trout to the net. Caddis patterns like the Graphic Caddis, Hair's Ear, and Bucksins will make for a fantastic attractor fly.

Very Well made Video. Thanks guys. Look forward to more..
Jwright7111 thank you! I appreciate you watching.
Great footage. Those fish are a different breed of pretty. Awesome job man!
Tight Lining MD Thanks so much! I appreciate you!
Great video bud. I'd be so clumsy I'd fall right in haha. I haven't fished this section yet. It's on the list! Some beautiful rainbows!
Make sure you check the flows before you go. Anything below 400 cfs you should be good. It’s an awesome canyon. -Tim
Combat Fly Fishing I’ve got some experts of the river I’d go with you’ll never catch me going alone. I’m going to send you an email. :)
Love it man!
This river must be ripping at 8000 cfs. Awesome video, the head on the rainbow was huge, nice fish. River etiquette is fairly rare.

Thanks, that means a lot. Maybe one of these days our paths will cross on the river. Take care. -Tim
This definitely looks a lot nicer then the behind the strip mall section in silverthorne..ahhahahaha
I have been unaware of this section of the Blue River. The size of the fish is awesome. I'll be checking it out this summer.

Great video! Is early June too late due to flows? I know you said Memorial Day is cut off but wanted to see if anything has changed recently
Not that I've seen, but with the little amount of snowfall this year, who knows. -Tim
@@CombatFlyFishing thanks for taking time to respond
Holy crap that place looks idyllic
LOVE THE VIDEO.. THE AREA YOU ARE FISHING IS IT BETTER TO ACCESS FROM HEENEY ROAD OR IS IT BETTER TO ACCESS FROM THE HIGHWAY 9? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE
You can get there either way. The highway is a little faster.

Do you usually fish with a 357? I can see if you're in Wyoming often and worried about grizzlies
Yes. Many people do it when the flows are up. There are some rough stretches, so an experienced oarsmen is necessary. -Tim
Do you have a combat fly fishing store? Your logo is awesome! Stickers or shirts?
Not yet, but thank you for the compliment. I'm grateful you like the logo. -Tim
Would you mind sharing info about your rig? I mostly fish small creeks and rarely use big indicators and long tippet. Did you use split shot?
Yes. I use split shot on my line to get the nymphs down. I attached a link to a video I did about fishing tail waters. In it I explain a little about my rig. -Tim ruclips.net/video/aNJexeqtRnc/видео.html
Love that section. Where'd ya get that Native net?
From one of the founders, years ago. Don’t think you can find them anymore.
@@CombatFlyFishing great net, I asked because I accidentally left mine at the beach last year. It looked a lot like yours, when I saw it, I had to ask. I miss I it, hoped I might run into one day. Keep up the vids, Ryan
굿비디오 Video good fishing
Sydney Fishing Story Thank you.
I feel your pain i went down under with my Brand New Smith and Wesson MP 9!!!! Switch to thick felt with aluminum screws have not fallen for years!!!!
Yeah, I was actually wearing studs on my boots that day. Just couldn't find my footing. It was slick as snot. -Tim
Great video! Have a couple questions if you don’t mind:
1: Is this public area above or below the Jurassic park section?
Where is the drop in to get down? Do you have coordinates?
How close to the dam did you start? Is the parking area 3 miles below or did you hike?
Awesome videos! Love seeing amazing Colorado places. What is your typical nymphing rig setup?
Landon, it really depends on the flows, and the water I’m fishing, but for these tail waters I like to tight line nymph when the fish or the run is close or within wading distance, otherwise I use an indicator system if I have to cast any distance. -Tim
Where was the trail that you used to get down to the water?
From the parking lot, walk west and you'll see a trail that will drop off into the canyon. -Tim
Amazing rainbow trout!
The river actually looks blue! Is that from reflection of the mountains and sky?
I think it's more the reflection from the sky but regardless, it's a beautiful river. -Tim
What top fly worked the best? Looking to go in the next week. Is it a good time to go? Thanks
Hi Tim. Do you recommend access from the Green Mtn Dam side or is it possible to hike in downstream from CO-9 ? Thanks in advance if you wish to answer this for me.
Ah nevermind I see you've addressed this in a similar comment below. Which do you prefer?
Dam side is what I prefer. -Tim
Great video. How hard is the walk down to the water. Really want to take cousin there but he has some challenges on steep trail walk.
tjincolotom the trail down to the water is challenging. I wouldn’t recommend it if your cousin has trouble with steep trail.
You see alot of boaters floating by?
I know they come through there, but I’ve never seen one. -Tim
We are headed here this coming weekend. Any info you can give for flies? Thx
Nice video!
That one around 8 minutes looked like a nice cutbow (Far from an expert).
Approximately what was the date you took this trip? I'm going out there in a week and hoping runoff hasn't started yet.
Last week of April was when we took this trip.
Where did you get that native net?
Got it from one of the founders back in 2016. I heard tell that the company is no more. If that’s true, it’s a shame. Best net I’ve ever owned.
Have you done any fishing here in the winter? Wondering if its worth my time
I have, and it can be treacherous due to the ice and short window of sunlight that enters the canyon this time of year.
What time of the year is this?
Food for thought on production, move the mic from your chest/chin when moving a lot. There is a lot of heavy breathing in the audio. Just trying to provide production criticism. Great fish!

To be fair you were no more than a mile to a mile and a quarter from the dam.... 3 miles and you'd be out of the canyon..
