her gun safety is on point, and what a shot! well done Rue :D
Thank you. Means a lot that people like you noticed that part of the experience too.
SERIOUSLY the whole time im watching im saying the same thing this woman is amazing....... i have been trying for years to get on one......congrats amazing hunt
I’m always amazed at the emotion displayed by first time hunters when they kill their first animal. It is visceral in so many ways. Guiding new hunters is one of my favourite activities. Well done Folks.
It’s primal hey? The meat eater crew are well versed in the art but they don’t fetishise the pursuit for newcomers, it’s very honest. If predation is something you are aware of and are curious about it’s many facets and how they relate to the outdoors, this is how it’s done.
First: congrats, Rue! Second: I love these shows where you show the reality of hunting, mistakes and all. They are my favorites!
I'm an OTR truck driver so I have a lot of time to listen to podcasts and MEater is about 90% of what I listen to. I have been in the woods and lakes since I was less than a year old and it is truly my calm and foundation. The podcast with Rue is one of my favorites from the standpoint of hearing her story and work with Outdoor Afro. The MeatEater content shows us the gamut of humans, personalities, experiences and learning about each other as humans. It's love of the natural world around us and sharing that world with each other.A beautiful thing. Congrats Rue and Janis and MEater for a great show and shared experience. Peace to all humans and keep sharing.
Janis running for the turkey is the fastest I’ve seen anyone on Meateater move on their own before, golden moment
I wonder if he was standing there in a sprinter stance before the shot
Shoulda been running that quick the first shot obviously needed to get on that turkey fast the way he acted
I know, right!? Not taking a chance on that third bird!
I will forever sprint after every turkey I see shot!
Apparently you've never seen the clip of Steve getting chased by a moose!
Thank you for shining light on outdoor Afro!!!!! Rue is an amazing human being.
Wonderful episode! I'm always stoked to see people of color getting involved in hunting and she seems like a real champion for the cause. Its also really special to see that emotional moment of coming up on the kill, I'm sure most of us can relate to that feeling of gratitude and remorse and it always makes me so glad to see people who take that moment of reflection and thanks. We shouldn't ever taking killing lightly and seeing others who also give that moment its due reverence gives me so much hope for the future of our sport.
Hunting with Rue should be a Meat Eater special every few months.
Cool lady.
This is by far one of my favorite episodes of MeatEater. The mentoring and pursuit were phenomenal. She knew the gun handling and Janis knew the hunting. Stunning.
That brought a tear to my eye seeing it all come together. That’s what hunting is all about: highs, lows, comradery, beautiful scenery and beautiful animals.
Great episode! Loved Rue’s attitude and her ability to keep going despite the early setbacks.
This was one of the best hunting videos I have ever seen. Watching Rue’s excitement and emotion was just priceless. What a great idea to film her and her hunt! One of many reasons I love Meateater. Congratulations, Rue! Way to go! Hope to see you on another episode and welcome to turkey hunting! I think you’re hooked for life!
Love this episode. One of my favorite from the MeatEater crew. Nice to see some representation and forward thinking, with someone who truly honours the wild of the animal. Beautiful Hunt Guys!
representation? forward thinking? what?
@@spacecat86 oh sorry, it's ok, you can go back under your rock. It seems fun in there!
Fantastic show!!! My cousin was a one time anti hunter. I had the great pleasure of taking her on her first turkey hunt this year.
"Moment of thanks" - true hunter's spirit & respect for the animal. Well done Rue!
Well earned and deserved turkey right there. Great example of the highs and lows of turkey hunting
Pure emotions that only a true hunter can understand
Rue you earned that one. That's why turkeys are so special. And so are you!!
Where to begin?
The struggles and lessons learned along the way are such great teachers in life. What is lightly gained is lightly esteemed or however that saying goes. Was not expecting the video to be so moving. Found myself towards the end thinking, damnation working so hard and with having two gut punches like that is so hard to recover from. Felt the emotion and struggle. Was feeling like it wasn't going to happen, but kept hoping it would. And then it did, awesomesauce! The perseverance was commendable!
Admitting mistakes as a mentor isn't an easy pill to swallow, but Janis owned up to them. And Rue could've throat punched him for not getting up and running that first one down right away. But as a team they worked through the adversity and preserved. There's a lot our country could learn from these two who on the surface look different, but underneath are the same. Two gracious human beings bonding in the great outdoors.
The wild and free comment followed by the taste their freedom is a perfect description of what hunting is all about. We as a group of hunters absolutely need more ambassadors like Rue and Janis. What beautiful souls. Congrats on navigating the challenges along the way to a great bird. Hope it's the first of many more to come.
P.S. Rue should teach gun safety to most middle aged men who are way to sloppy with muzzle control and making d@m sure that chamber is empty.
Thank you Dwight for your generous and thoughtful comments - such an incredible experience I’ll always be grateful to have.
Wasn't expecting to find that episode so entertaining, and fulfilling. Great job, Rue! You're not just breaking the mold, you're smashing it. Keep up the work you do. The world can only benefit
The two loudest noises ever are a click when you expect a boom and a boom when you expect a click.
Janis ran for that turkey faster than Steve ran from the charging moose lol
That’s because Steve walked
Basically layed down to be trampled xD
Great segment Janis! I love Rue’s attitude and respect she shares for the outdoors. You could feel her emotions and I can relate to her enthusiasm for one of life’s greatest pursuits!
Badass! The hardest/frustrating hunts are the most painful and rewarding! Great job both of you!
I'm really impressed by her gun safety, many forget about it in the heat of the moment.
Janis thank you for showing rue about turkey hunting man , congrats rue on a beautiful Bird
Turkey hunting is addictive! Good for her! I hope she looks forward to spring season like I do.
I once thought that NO ONE COULD REPLACE STEVE...... I WAS WRONG. I STILL LOVE THE WAY STEVE TELLS A STORY BUT JANIS.... YOU'RE HOLDING YOUR OWN. GREAT VIDEO AND CONGRATULATIONS YOUNG LADY ON A NICE BIRD.
What happened to steve

Awesome. Congratulations
Great to see a fresh new perspective turkey hunter
great episode Rue is awesome great harvest.
Rue was awesome. Looks like a great new turkey hunter is born.
Janis helping and teaching new people hunting is the best content from any hunting or fishing show there is. Doesn't judge only helps and explains his knowledge of what he knows about every situation really amazing!!!
This was a really good video. It is pretty cool to show someone a different life style. How precious nature really is.awsome video keep them coming
I hope we can inspire others - thank you!
So good to get to see the trials and tribulations that is hunting.
So often we only get to see the success, not the work and tough mistakes that lead up to it. Really enjoyed it!
Breathtaking to see such a beautiful woman in a beautiful country taking a beautiful animal and shedding tears of joy after long hard work.
Amazing episode! Rue is such an awesome person!! Amazing hunt!! Rue needs to be on more episodes! ❤❤
Rue has better muzzle awareness and gun safety than most folks on TV. Well done!
thanks for noticing Austin - means a lot
Freaking love it! Bringing new opportunities to different communities is so awesome!
I absolutely love this one she did an amazing job very exciting to watch
Beautiful stuff. Training. Mentoring. Learning. Execution. And patience as they do it.
Almost teared up watching this episode 💪🏾 great hunt
One of my favorite hunt videos in recent years! awesome. Great work Rue
Ok....there's no WAY she's 50 year old. She looks amazing. Awesome to see this lovely lady with an amazing attitude towards nature.
Turkey hunting is some of the most frustrating, yet rewarding bird hunts I've ever been on.
Loved this so much. She is amazing. Loved her gratitude and her attitude
Dang,I was rooting for her ,she didn't make any mistakes we all haven't made, awsome job!!!
Good job of showing the lows and highs of the hunt.
Rue u r making the outdoors work for so many darling ur beautiful loved this episode
It only took once for me to learn. You always get up and run to the flopping bird! The one time you think “oh I smoked him!” Is the one that gets up and takes off.
Love your videos guys I watch your Netflix show to keep making better hunters
Really enjoyed this episode! Thanks Meateater ✌️🤘
So happy for the journey she raking and sharing with others. Truly inspiring
Rue I'm so glad you got 1! This episode had a lot of anticipation.
Great episode team. The more outdoorsmen and women the better. Super happy for Rue! Congrats girl
These are easily the best episodes.
Amazing episode! So thoughtful and important
Very cool, Janis! Love to see experienced hunters pass it on…
Congratulations Rue! Many more turkeys to come 👍
Great work on so many levels! Welcome Rue! Love what your about!
Fantastic ep! Nice looking bird. Looks like we've got a new turkey hunter!
Congrats Rue! I bet that bird was delicious
Very nice to see how safet she is with her weapon.
Well earned turkey. Great hunt, kudos to Janis being a good turkey mentor
Love at the beginning when she mentioned getting away and releasing our pressure valve. Thats exactly how I feel. Would love hunting and a big property to be my every day life.
Hey Steve! Huge fan! Because of you I got out and finally went turkey hunting! Got my brother a stud and shot on myself! So thankful for you and your team!
Respect Rue and Janis! Great episode.
Great hunt and story !
Rue you need to meet Sue, you two be very cool. Great episode btw and I didnt have my
shotgun in battery on a turkey hunt. Chucked the round out while the turkey passed behind a tree and then whacked it…
We all have those things happen and lose birds because you think you stoned it…
Keep it up and check out Natural Verde for her similar life experiences… Right now shes getting back from hangin with Inuits chase polar bears!
That would be my dream home, and like her I think if everyone would experience that "pressure valve" the world would be a better place
YANNI WITH THE SPEED.
Congrats Rue!
Awesome video great footage excellent work 👍🏿
Just another great video from MeatEater is all. The direction, dedication and effort from this Alpha group is phenomenal. Would love to hook up for a hunt one day with this group of die hard conservation loving outdoorsmen and women! Keep up the good work fellow enthusiasts.
Good hunt Rue, Well done
Everyone: Awesome job!
Matt R: grrrrrr!
The best experience as a first time hunter is that of failure and mistakes
You learn quickly the realities of it and learn to appreciate successful and good hunts that much more
Fantastic episode! Love it!!
Y’all did great thank u for sharing
Great video! Congrats Rue!
Great job Rue
Hell yeah, Rue. Great hunt!
This was such a heartwarming episode!
I can hear Steve now, "She earned that hunt." Glad she didn't easily killed that bird on the first day. She definitely earned the one she got. Much respect to her. And much respect to Meateater for bringing hunting content that is not just solely about the kill. The human element and story is much more fulfilling and reward.
Nicely Done Rue 💥🙌.
And Janis 👊.
JO JO IN VT 😆💕
Thats good stuff right there Janis and Rue!
Thank You
I've watched a hundred turkey hunting videos on RUclips this year! This one is in the top 5! Great job Rue!
That's a huge compliment - thank you!
Outstanding job brother
Very very cool!
Welcome to the flock Rue!
Great episode
Glad Rue got her bird!
That’s so awesome. Amazing moment
Rue’s gun safety is the best!
Very cool!
Good work!!
I’ve been trying to bag a bird on public with my bow, everything from noob error, coyotes, to hunters. This birds huge and no one can kill ‘em he’s old and ain’t got king I had him at 35 across a creek and was gonna send it but a vine was covering him instead of clearing the vine he tuned and walked straight back into the wood line ahhhhhhhh! I love turkey hunting.
On the final blind were they sitting in poison oak? The shot of Rue getting up saying "safety's on" definitely looks like it.
Yes, lots of poison oak. Out of four of us, I was the only one to get it. And I got it bad! Brutal.
@@janisputelis440 every time I've gotten it as an adult I've had to get a steroid shot to get rid of it quickly.
Love it!
