I have an 09 goldwing and an 05 nomad 1600. I'm parting with the Nomad. She likes both, and so do I, but looking and sounding cool can't compete with comfort and being able to hear the stereo clearly. Especially on long rides. I've had about 10 bikes my whole life, and i swear the goldwing is the finest thing on 2 wheels.
My Wing is an 08. My Harley is an 02. Both paid for. I have no desire to pay $25k plus, to ride something new when both my bikes are still quite capable for anything I want to do on a bike.
I to have a 2008 and sold my 12 fatboy for comfort for us both(wife). The fatboy was fun for 10 years, goldwing is fun and comfortable extremely refined too.
I'm gonna make a prediction before I finish watching your review. You will keep the Honda! (by the way, love the personal reviews more than from the pro's).
BMW is nice but the wing is low and cheaper in maintenance. Very reliable engine as well. I have 2014 CTX 1300 and I love it. I wish I have a gold wing too.
Great video, my first time to your channel. I own an 04’ Gold wing. I really enjoyed the comparison of the two different bikes. Reaffirming my choice was the right one at the time. She’s a fine machine and I Love her guts. I’m getting kinda old now and she will haul the mail if you feel like it. I’ll be checking out your other videos.
Yes, I have heard that many times. You can almost surmise that by just looking at the two bikes together. Fortunately, that is something I don't have to worry about 😉. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Good point! I had the BMW R1200 RT 2017 model and at night I was often fumbling around to find what I wanted and pissed me off sometimes as it's important for safety and can lead to a frustrated rider...
I'm biased, but I'm also prone to long trips, and so, comfort wins. In a situation where I have two bikes, and one must go, the most comfortable ride wins.
Yes, the Wing is definitely more comfortable but the BMW is a thrill to ride, for only about 30 minutes 😬. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!!!
@@JSProjectWild At one point, I had two bikes, one for road trips, and one for riding around town/goofing off with my friends locally. It's great, if one can afford to do it. I can't, any more, and my current bike, an 07 XVS650 is mine simply because she is reliable, she'll start every time I go out to start her, which was an upgrade from my 96 VT 1100 Shadow, which finally got to feeling her age, after sitting for several years before I got her.
Well, that solves the dilemma of your FJR verses Goldwing video.... I have the same year and color GL1800 as you. Plus a Fatboy and a 200 HP VMAX 1700. Also a first gen Vmax 1200 (145 HP). Love your riding style... I'm usually redlining the GW.
Yeah, unfortunately it doesn't take much to redline a Wing, lol. You have a volatile stable of bikes. BTW I'm fresh out of Harleys. Thanks for commenting Flash!!!
Thanks for the sub!!! I recently looked at an older 650GS with only 6k miles but haven't pulled the trigger. It's going to need an aftermarket seat also.
You’re comparing apples to oranges. First of all, you made a good point when you started the video that you’ve got a newer generation BMW against an older generation Goldwing. The new gold wings have a lot more power and they handle a lot better and they’re lighter weight you raise that BMW against a brand new Goldwing or a third generation Goldwing 2018 and up and you will have a heckuva time deciding which one is better personally I wouldn’t on the BMW just for maintenance costs that alone is Expensive. The other thing is you’re talking about speeding horsepower. They’re two different bikes Goldwing has made the cruise and tour in comfort not race down the highway so if you want to race, get the Beamer if you want to ride comfortably keep the Goldwing.
First, thanks for watching and commenting Ed! "Apples to oranges"? It's not like I compared a touring motorcycle to a dirt bike, LOL. Both bikes fall into the "touring" category, yes, I researched it. New '23 Wing has a lot more power than my 2005? The '23 Wing has only 7 more HP and 2 more ft. lbs. torque and weighs only 53 lbs. less than my '05 so what's my motivation to pay FIVE times the money I have in my '05--- come on Honda, after 18 years you can do better! "Speeding horsepower"? I like rapid acceleration and I think horsepower and torque just might have something to do with that.

Not true. I have an 04 Wing With 110k. I have an 18 wing Tour 6 speed. Ill take my 04 ANY Day over my 18 GW. My 04 has more power, handles 500% better than the 18. The 04 is just a better bike. And do not believe Honda's claims on weight. My 04 is lighter than my 18.
To be fair I should say it's the 2012 through 2017 that were heaver, They were over 100 lbs. heaver than my 04. Don't get me wrong, The 2018 is a great bike. It's just not as goog as the 2004 GW In fact, they should not call the 2018 a GW, it is actually more of an ST1800. When i think of it as an ST1800, I like it better!

I owned a K1600 GTL for about six months. I bought it because the six cylinder sounded like a two wheeled exotic car. I put a few hundred miles on it and sold it because I found the riding posture uncomfortable and the radio useless and I hated the scroll wheel. I took about a $6,000 loss to sell it but didn’t regret it. I ended up liking the engine but nothing else about it.

My brother is riding around on the BMW K1600, front shock is blown out, apparently it's $8k for the dealer to replace it. I ride an 05 Honda st1300, I do all the repairs myself at the fraction of the cost of that BMW.
It is a choose between spirited and comfort riding. The k1600 is better on the former, the Goldwing on the latter. I prefer the spirit over the comfort, and the k1600 is still comfortable
I noticed that you compared your older 2005 Goldwing to a newer BMW and a newer FJR in a previous video. That should tell you the quality of Honda Goldwings. Sell both and get a newer Goldwing (2012 - 2017). The newer Goldwings (18+) are really nice, but I will never be in that category, or need to be in my opinion. The buttons and wheel issue is a mute issue for me. Too many distractions with both, so I don't use either. And now with bluetooth in my helmet, I've got all I need.
Vote for the GW ! If I want to really go fast I get a Ducatti...... BMW has several features I did not Like, The seat after weared under the sun you will repent, the no backlights on the buttons, the assembly between the tank and fearing no go for the BMW "quality and overpricing" On the GW deffinitely the only think I would like is to se those 1800 to dvelop better just a little extra and a color screen as a standard and upgrade to old models .... out of it GW wins!

Sold the beamer. Even though I do all repairs myself the parts cost alone are prohibitive in the case of a failure. Still have the Wing of course. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
I had no issues with handling at any speed with the BMW. The FJR1300 however is top heavy at low speeds and even more so when full of fuel. Thanks for commenting!!!🦾
MY family and I have owned different type of BMWs.... none of us would recommend them. Hondas are easy to work on and aren't that expensive to maintain.
I think for some folks the fun associated with a BMW is not worth the possibility of a drained bank account, for others it is. Thanks much for watching and for commenting!
Cycle the SRC button to bring up the FM then push and hold down the Mode button and AM should come up. Do it again and the WB will show and again and you're back to FM. While on the WB there are 7 stations to choose from, to step through those, to find the strongest one in your area, rock the wonder wheel side to side. FYI some areas don't have access to any of these WB stations and if so they may come in with a lot of static. Thanks for watching.
K bikes are great till you need to replace the ball joints in the wheel carrier assembly (front forks) at approx $390 CDN each + labor... or any other part for that matter. Ask me how I know 😆. My next ride will be a GoldWing
i life in western Europe. The bmw is cheaper here to buy second hand. Last year i bought Gl 1800 2005 also. I like the bike very very much. Honda over BMW for me.
Mind you, being able to convert the Beemer to a sport tourer makes a huge difference if you enjoy that type of ride more. Heck, difficult choice! They're both magnificent machines! I just have a thang for the 'Wang!
I totally agree---kept the Wing but have been looking for a higher horsepower adventure bike. Can't find any deals---all use bikes are high! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!!! 🦾
My experience is bmw are great motorcycles but way to much money to maintain.the gold is just a better motorcycle in the long run .more reliable.more aftermarket parts .no contest gold wing all day.
So, I've researched DAB and lots of folks are complaining that their newer BMW GTL's have terrible reception, way worse than FM on those bikes. You might want to check out the GTL forums.
@@JSProjectWild Maybe DAB isn’t so established where you are. We have it Norway for 7 years now. Works grest here FM dosn’t exhist here for radio stations.
@@James.984haid I found this after doing a search----"Why is there no DAB radio service in the US? Because we already have a digital broadcast standard for FM and AM radio here in the United States. It's called In-Band On-Channel (iBOC), developed by iBiquity in the late 1990s, and rolled out in 2003 to radio stations choosing to upgrade to this technology." I think for some folks the fun associated with a BMW is not worth the possibility of a drained bank account, for others it is. Thanks much for watching and for commenting!
Are you in Noth central indiana that almost looks like heading south on 35
I could have been, on that ride. Thanks for watching.
Both ace machines but that BMW engine rips whilst the Honda is a grannies whisper.
I agree John, and rip it does. Honda, always too conservative, but dependable. Thanks for commenting!!!
BOTHGOOD
Totally agree. Thanks!
There is AM on the BMW ? How do you get to it ?
Cycle the SRC button to bring up the FM then push and hold down the Mode button and AM should come up. Do it again and the WB will show and again and you're back to FM. While on the WB there are 7 stations to choose from, to step through those, to find the strongest one in your area, rock the wonder wheel side to side. FYI some areas don't have access to any of these WB stations and if so they may come in with a lot of static.
Thanks for watching.
@@JSProjectWild What is "WB" ???
@@AB-hx9hs Weather band.
K bikes are great till you need to replace the ball joints in the wheel carrier assembly (front forks) at approx $390 CDN each + labor... or any other part for that matter. Ask me how I know 😆. My next ride will be a GoldWing
I keep hearing costly stories about the BMW's. Thanks for that info, I appreciate you taking the time. And thanks for watching!!!🦾🦾🦾
Sorry GW fans, the K1600 is the bike for me. The screaming in-line 6 and sport focused nature of the bike speak to me 😊.
No reason to apologize for that opinion! That BMW in line six is something to be experienced. Thanks for watching!!! 🦾
The seat can’t be as bad as a stock drz400s seat!?
😂The DRZ seat must be bad as many aftermarket seats that are available. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
Round 1 goes to the BMW 😂. Does the 2014 have a quick shifter.
No quick shifter. Thanks for watching!
Do you use 100% fuel, or like a fuel injected car, it doesn't matter as much? Coming from a carberated cycle, I try to only use 100% gas
93 octane in the BMW and 87 in the Wing.
Stick with what you know. And go with comfortability. Gold wings are plenty fast enough
Agreed, fast enough. But definitely NOT quick enough, especially at passing speeds. JMO of course. Thanks for watching!
Which bike did you choose?
Wing, the seat is comfy just as it is without spending $$$. Thanks for watching!
Honda GW. All day, everyday.
👍💪Thanks for commenting!!!
i life in western Europe.
The bmw is cheaper here to buy second hand.
Last year i bought Gl 1800 2005 also.
I like the bike very very much.
Honda over BMW for me.
Thanks much for checking out my video and commenting. For comfort and dependability, it's hard to beat a Goldwing.
@@JSProjectWild No thanks!
Your film is nice.
Like to watch it.
Greets from The Netherlands.
That windshield on that BMW is the most goofy ugly thing I've ever seen 😖
😂😉Thanks for watching!!!
BMW every day of the week. Lower depreciation then the wing and all over the Beamer wins hands down as a keeper.
Thank you for commenting!
Keep the wing, I think it suits your needs better. Imho
the wing sure does seem like a dog compared to that beemer. you kept the wing? are you bored with the wing yet?
If one thinks about it, I guess acceleration is just a small percentage of ride time. The wing does all else well. Thanks for watching!!!
You can keep the beemer, just give me the goldwing🤣
Another vote for the Wing!
My experience is bmw are great motorcycles but way to much money to maintain.the gold is just a better motorcycle in the long run .more reliable.more aftermarket parts .no contest gold wing all day.
Well said! Thanks for watching!
The wing will last many years and k’s longer 😎
Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
BMW = Buy More Warranty. Hard pass on any of those German bikes.
😁I had not heard that phrase before😁. Thanks for commenting!!!
Reliability of the Honda beats the BMW worries...
👌👍🦾🦾🦾Thanks for watching!
The goldwing will last a lifetime, the BMW will not do that.
That seems to be the sentiment of many😉. Thanks for commenting!!!
WINGORGTL
If you were asking, I still have them both.
Talking about FM radio. Its out of date. You need DAB radio.
It's called In-Band On-Channel (iBOC), developed by iBiquity in the late 1990s, and rolled out in 2003 to radio stations choosing to upgrade to this technology."
Thanks for watching and commenting James!!!
Keep the BMW!!! Much nicer design. More "sporty" ,less "old man" motorcycle..
A vote for the beemer. Thanks for commenting!!!
At 13.37 min that engine sounds like out of oil horrible sound 😮

The transmission got somethi g no good i sale it after 1 month
