He was a great player and looks good in highlights, but the only thing he changed was making the NRL bring in the no shoulder charge rule with that disgusting hit on Dean Young. That would be a good reaction vid.
Idris was a physical phenomenon, but he was not always mentally focussed. There's a very good reason why he only played once for his state and once for Australia, and that's because he could switch off during a game and get caught out.
As far as genuinely big players go, the current one to check out is Nelson Asofa-Solomona, who plays for the Melbourne Storm.
In absolute terms of Rugby League players' size, the smallest professional player I know of was 4 foot 11 and the biggest was a full two feet taller.

Played 1 Origin game for NSW, 1 test match for Australia, as well as 3 for NSW Country in the City/Country game, and 2 for the Indigenous all Stars.

Yep, good list. It’s probably a bit hard to watch a Cam Smith highlights reel and understand just how good he was. I hate saying, cause I can’t stand him, but he’s probably one of the greatest players of all time.

Brandan Hill (Halifax, Bradford & Keighley) - a chunky 6 foot 10. Keighley, being semi-pro, couldn't afford custom kit, so they just gave Brendan a handful of shirts at the start of the season, and his granny cut them up into panels then sewed the results into something that would actually fit the big lad.
this is rugby league, the players are generally shorter and lighter than say the forwards in rugby union. . . those commentators are just having fun about the biggest human ever...but you know that...

Asking for the best player in Rugby League is hard to figure out. It would be better to ask for the most influential (wally Lewis, Andrew Johns, Johnathan Thurston, Cameron Smith). These guys were greats because of how they controlled a game but wouldn't necessarily have a huge highlight reel. Or ask for the most spectacular (Steve Matai, Greg Inglis, Shaun Johnson, Tony Williams, Ben Barba, kayln ponga) who are known for doingspurtz of brilliance

Idris did play state of origin and represented Australia...But definitely not the biggest to play NRL size wise.

Look up Jordan Mailata. He played as a junior in the Australian Rugby League competition before taking the chance to try out for the NFL. He was huge.

State of origin is like to the "Probowl", difference is, origin here means alot and players arnt trying to avoid injuries rather play at even a higher level then for their club.

The only reason some guys wear the head protection is because they have suffered a concusion and are forced to wear one. It also helps prevent cauliflower ear from the scrum. I played 1 year of rugby in HS and I caused a few concussions and broken bones.

Jamal was a really devastating player at a young age but then he started to put on more weight and that wasn't good for his knees. Actually happens a lot to freakishly fast big man in the NRL which is why they got to stay disciplined and keep the extra weight off their body.

He played for my team the bulldogs, he was very inconsistant and picked up a lot of injuries, had the talent but never reached the potential he had, he was also only 18-21yr old in most of these highlights
He played for Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs and the Penrith, both outer suburbs of Sydney. Poor old St George they are struggling at the moment, but in the 1950s they won 11 premiership in a row and were the most dominant team. Best player would have to be in the 50s Reg Gasnier (Puff the Magic Dragon). Best in the last 20 years would have to be Andrew (Joey) Johns.

Hey Ham I'll try offer some answers Jamal Idris only blessed the Feild for a few years His body was so big his body just couldn't hold up for the length of a season from what I remember it was on going hip problems that forced him to hang up the boots.
he played for the Bulldogs, panthers, gold coast and also appeared for NSW and Australia... HE WAS A BOSS!!!! Just had a short Career and people have short memories as there are a lot of great players and plenty that don't see their full potential it is such a tough competition.
What a lot of NFL fans don't realise and Jamal is the proof but giant body's don't have the endurance for the game or season.
also, when he played teams had 12 interchanges/substitutions a game it is now down to 8 this rule was slowly introduced by going to 10 then 8 to reduce the playing weight of players as body's were getting destroyed

You have to watch the Brisbane Broncos please they are a must watched side one of the best in the competition this year
To your statement about tackles, it's not about when the ref blows his whistle. If you listen (because you can hear the refs during the game) they yell "held" after a few seconds for a completed tackle where the ball carrier doesn't get tackled to the ground. That signals to the players that the tackle is completed and the defending team has about 3 or 4 seconds to allow the ball carrier to "play the ball". Same deal for when the tackle winds up with the players on the ground, you will hear something like "away" called from the ref informing the defence that they're expected to allow the ball carrier to play the ball in 3 to 4 seconds time. If the ref blows his whistle, it usually means one team or the other is getting a penalty for an infraction of the rules.
Monster humans who are athletic are very great to watch in rugby league/union. Over the history of League in AU, there's been an evolution of what props, second rower's, and wingers body types are like. I'm a bit older now and remember back in the day how wingers have gotten bigger, and roles of front and second row forwards have somewhat changed. The game isn't as brutal as it used to be (rule changes to protect the players from unnecessary injuries), but it has become far more explosive and exciting because of those rule changes retaining the sports physicality.
Also, by extension it gives the viewers more exposure to see these eleet players on the field because they now get hurt far more infrequently, and it's nice to know that when they do get hurt, it's no longer anything to do with malice 9 times outta 10.
@GoHamm TV, state of origin (game 3 of 2023) is coming up and I for one would fkn love to watch you react to the entire game.
You can either do the VPN thing to watch the game, or, it's broadcast on fox sports in the US, so you do have options in how to view the game if you really want to.
I understand that you will edit the "reaction video" so that there's less "dead air" but I believe your reaction will be more realistic from the full match rather than reacting to the game highlights. But that's just my two cents worth. If that sounds like too much work, you could watch the entire game (live streaming with us) and later film a reaction to the game highlights, just to save a day's worth of video editing - which I'd completely understand.
BTW, if you watch the entire game live, I will tune in to hear your reaction - I never listen to the commentators anyway, they're super annoying to me most of the time so I'd rather hear what you have to say. For me, that's double the entertainment and I WILL be there for it if it's something that you give us a couple of days notice about.
We love it when people from other cultures discover one of the awesome things about ours and fall in love. There's not a better feeling to Aussies, we don't get a great deal of global interest and respect for our sporting culture with the glaring exception of the British who hate us because the only sport they invented in which they are actually better at than us is soccer. We pwn them at everything else (basically).

You don't have to hold them down. A player is tackled when the ball or the forearm with the ball hits the ground with a tackler on him. If the tackler slips off before the ball or arm hit grass the player can keep going.. Referee calls "HELD" if the player is stopped and cant pass or go forward regardless of player going down or ball touching ground. Other players don't go jump on him after the tackle, that is UNION.. Once tackle is effected no other players can come in but until ref calls held or ball arm hits ground he is not tackled.

Greg Inglis retirement tribute
He was gun, not average. Multiple gun players haven't won a premiership like Jarryd Hayne, Trent Barrett, Josh Morris, etc.
You have to watch Greg Inglis boys.
He was an above average player. However, he had issues with injury and mental health.
In that reel you can see he is playing for Australia as well as being in the city v country which is representative football. They no longer do city v country but it was like an exhibition where you could price yourself to the NSW blues team selectors.
Not wing selected by NSW could have been for multiple reasons, there may have been a better option in his position in terms of how they wanted the team to play, or someone with more experience in the role. From what I remember of him though, he would have flat patches of form and sometimes drift in and out of matches, basically go missing. He was also very young.
Definitely well above average but also not a legendary player.
