Hello everyone, I’m not active duty anymore and do not have my uniform with me and not allowed to wear my old uniform in this video. I understand it looked like a official uniform but it was a costume provide by the producers. My opinion and my thoughts on this video does not represent the US government or any of the branches. These are all my experiences and it does not represent any other airman, soldier, or marine in the US military. My apologies if my costume offends all those who are serving and served. I did my best working with the producers to make it realistic as possible. However, I would never disrespect the US military and the uniform by being in a public forum out it of regulations. Thank you for watching and always appreciate your support
It was an honor for us to shoot such a meaningful video with Daniel. Daniel was an Air Force captain who risked his life to protect the United States. Please support Daniel's life after his discharge with love!
I hope you don’t worry about offending anyone. I served six years active duty in the Air Force as an enlisted member, I understand completely where you are coming from. My opinion on the matter is that you were very professional, and made it a point to say that these viewpoints were your opinions, and not the official viewpoints of the United States government or military. Your uniform also did not have any insignia or unit patches that would show anything specific, so by just wearing those clothes, it would be like seeing the people who wear those clothes in a USAA commercial. Lol. I just recently found this channel and I find it so interesting, I also feel that what ya’ll are doing to get the information out there on what so many people in North Korea go through and that you can build these relationships one person at a time, is awesome. I appreciated your outlook and opinion. If anyone complains about this, I don’t believe they have ever served in the our great military and I would just ignore them. Because anyone who has served should understand what you are doing here is great!
This was so interesting. Thank you. I noted that he said he hopes that you two could stay in touch and get to know each other better...I'm curious if you guys did just that...Diplomacy and love two friends at a time. You both seemed genuinely interesting and sincere and I could see a true friendship blossom from this so I truly hope you both kept in touch. Much respect, and thank you for your service.
eating a dog, a cow or what animal ever. It's an animal. Somewhere in the world, people hold it as pets. Making a difference is just our mind, which trys to tell us "its okay to eat meat", because we are used to it. The brain makes a line with animals people are used to have emotional relations with. Also: If you think about eating a dog or a cat, you will have the picture of a dog or a cat you know in you mind. Maybe your own, maybe your girlfriends or even the one of your cousin 3rd grade. Thats makes a barrier. If you think about a chicken or a cow, you think of the tenthousands of chicken and cows there are in the world. Not specific ones. Therefore there is no barrier.
Im trying to fathom how this young man must be feeling. For him to get moved to tears to hear that we don’t consider North Korea are mortal enemies and not planning their brutal Destruction, just shows how much he has been through. I hope he has a good life now and I hope and pray for his family.
I dont know the facts but I am pretty sure the "American Soldier" isn't a fucking American soldier. Not that Koreans or American Koreans can be in the US Army but I have a few points in my favor. 1. What the fuck is wrong with his OCP uniform. Like Jesus fucking christ all his patches are missing, his name tag, army, and rank patches are gone which is the bear minimum along with any uniform or MOS identification. 2. His sleeves are not rolled correctly ( they should be right under his shoulder patches) and wtf is he wearing on his feet?!?! 3. Finally, I see how you tried to make him a RUclips channel to make it seem authentic but does anyone else notice that his RUclips started the same day this was posted? Honestly this just looks like DIMPLE is running out of content.
@@fakegraysonh well for ur first point he isn’t in the military anymore so maybe he doesn’t feel like he has to comply with the uniform regulations. For ur second point, this is not a formal interview so he probably just wants to relax
Worst thing you did in the military: US soldier: I shit my pants Korean soldier: I stole a dog and ate it because my friends and I were starving Us: 👁👄👁
Doesn’t matter who you are or how good of a person you’ve been, starvation will equalize us all. I take pride in being a vegetarian and on the road to veganism...but If I were truly starving, it’s anything that’s alive and moving I would kill and cook to keep me from dying. There was an interesting study that way done in my home state regarding Starvation and what psychological impact it has. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Starvation_Experiment
This Korean soldier is breaking my heart, because I can feel the pain he is hiding behind his sun glasses. He gave his life to protect his family, just like the American soldier, but I can feel a lot more pain, emotion, and genuine appreciation from the Korean soldier because of his past. I do feel a lot of pride because of the American soldier, because he is my one of my own as an American, and I am so proud of him!!! They are both so brave!
When I was in the US Military and serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, I realized that 99% of the people we saw were just normal people trying to move on with their lives and live a normal life. The other thing I realized is that war is just dumb. We were two sides shooting at each other, and if we met in any other context, we would have probably gotten along, been friends, and enjoyed each others company. We just found ourselves on opposite sides, and each of us was a version of ourselves fighting against our own self. I'd rather sit down and share a cup of coffee and tea with my 'enemy' than exchange bullets. I have no animosity or hatred to anyone and believe kindness is the greatest virtue, and I hope the rest of the world can choose kindness and peace over hatred and war.
Exactly. Shit is ridiculous. People we train with, eat and get to know as we go through shitty times, and just knowing that a rotation could be the last time you ever see them.
I'm kinda surprised you had to go to another country and into an active war zone to realize people are just people. Actually, I'm not. I'm just continually disappointed by how willing people are to see "others" instead of human beings. Whether it's over race, religion, nationality, whatever. No matter where you are most people want basically the same thing. To be happy and secure (financially, socially, etc) and the ones that don't are usually brainwashed or psychotic and a small, small number of any population of people are genuinely psycho. I'm glad you realized it anyways, however it came about. I hope your experiences make for a better life for yourself, your family, and the world around you in general.
@@Poorstargazer23 Maybe I'm not communicating the idea clearly or its just a hard realization to describe via youtube comments. When someone is shooting at you and putting you into mortal danger, where you legitimately fear for your life, and you realize that on the other end is someone who wants to see you dead, it really messes with you. You think "But, I'm a good person! Why is someone trying to kill me? They don't even know who I am! If only they would take the time to get to know me before deciding they want to try to kill me...", They don't care, they just want to kill you even if you're there to help rebuild a country and help them live a better life. It's nothing personal. It's not the 99% of the population who want to kill you, it's just the 1%. And that 1% ruins it for the other 99%. The epiphany was a reconciliation with the idea that other people are trying to kill you, forgiving them for it, and trying that much harder to be nicer to people to counter balance the anger in the world.
@Andrew Jackson I have several reasons. Let me see if i can explain it. For one i scored very high on the asvab so i could have done anything. I picked infantry because i wanted to prove to myself i had what it takes to become a soldier and do real soldier stuff. 2)it's not all bad experiences. There's definitely alot of fun ans a very powerful, unique brotherhood you become a part of. There are guys that i still talk to to this day and would take a bullet for. 3)learning battle drills an learning how to shoot such a wide variety of weapons systems is awesome and those skills won't be forgotten. 4)you get to experience interesting environments you normally couldn't as a civilian. 5)yes there are bad times and really really bad times but most guys including myself have zero regrets about being true 1 percenters earning that blue cord.
This is why Social media and youtube was made for. To connect people with differences to have them realize they have not that many differencs. This is what need sto go viral.
You are so right. We have so much more in common than we have differeces. All human beings want their basic nerds met..food, shelter, happiness, and love.
They used to live up to their name, and even allowed soft porn, but now you have to search for funny videos and all conservative channels have been politicized, or censored. Conservativism is a branch of philosophy, not a political ideology. The difference in practice is that conservative people critique liberal-minded politicians, because that gives shock value, and the people that are really capitalist, and don't hide it, got censored on a massive scale, so there's hardly no debate anywhere anymore, and now class society is back on the menu with this racialist hygiene craze, because there's no communication being had, and everybody are sitting at home, drinking alone. Just ten years ago, debate was everywhere, even in news papers.
That’s the air force for you. Always pampered. In the Army, we call them chair force but even some of my Air Force friends rip some jokes too. We all go at each other but they’re still above the puddle pirate coasties 🤣🤷🏻♂️
Imagine growing up and being taught to hate Americans but here is the NK soldier opening up and even admiring the Korean American soldier 🥺 This was beautiful and emotional. I hope they stay in touch and become friends.
@@psmaria23 Going by your name, even though it´s spellt incorrectly, aren´t Venezuelans taught the same, to hate the US, but still "deflect" to it?... Most likely they will stay in touch
And the same goes for American’s views of America I think. Like the saying goes “politicians start wars and the people are sent to fight them”. We would fight tyranny here as much as abroad.
@DeMocRacyDeFeaTeD TrUmPiSmFaScisM guess you haven’t heard what happened over the summer of 2020 where the democrats burned down cities and bailed out those criminals.....

im sure Korea or US or Japan are friend to NK , just because the threat. so its like an enemy state for us. youre just wrong. there are always two sides. one who occupied korean peninsula to create this problem and trying to look like a big friend aka USA ...
As the son of a veteran father and a long line of veterans, this video is touching. My father taught my siblings and I to be distrustful of all those who teach hate - even our own government. His wisdom has proven to be true in all accounts. Thank you to both of these brave men. Service and charity to others is the true love of God.
I like how the American soldier says he crapped his pants and NK soldier is like complimenting him but when NK soldier says he ate a dog the American soldier is like wHoAh 😂😂😂
@@buff_man1670 The NK soldier defected a while back(dont know when but Im pretty sure there is a video explaining his story) and the American airman is no longer serving so the uniforms arent correct since neither is actively in service. @@buff_man1670 I think you’re missing some context here. I loved their conversation! Although I got sad when he was hesitant to ask if the American soldier saw him as the enemy. He didn't know what to expect. Since in NK they are taught that Americans are the enemy. So when the American soldier answered it was almost like a sense of relief for him. I also liked his response, "I see you as a soldier." It was a heart warming interaction.
Because, it seems as though from seeing a few of these videos, that not only North Korean military but also the civilian population are taught that the US is the great enemy. This sort of propaganda is central to their cultural upbringing and is constantly reinforced. I think what he was asking was; as a Military Officer / American, was he brought up to believe that North Korea was his sworn enemy? The Captain went on to explain that at the time he was in the military, the US focus was in the Middle East. But I believe the short answer to that question is simply; No! I believe for the average American, the North Korean Conflict isn't even on their radar and if it is, it probably doesn't even make top five of their geopolitical concerns. So, no man, Americans; Military or otherwise don't view North Koreans as their enemy. Most are aware that there is far reaching corruption and injustice in North Korea, but reserve our animosity for more immediate concerns; like people who disagree with us on Facebook.
That touched me too. I kinda wish he would’ve explained more though, like how we tend to view NK citizens more as victims than enemies. How we realize they’ve been brainwashed to hate us, but understand that at their core, most are probably still good people. In this situation & others, our despise is more often directed towards the dictator & his authoritative regime, than towards the innocent people who’ve been oppressed under such brutal & corrupt political systems.
@@Studio-Coast_Kid We don’t view them as our enemy because we know what would happen if it came to a war with NK. The US would wipe the country off the planet in a few hours. So to a degree I think there is an attitude of avoid at all costs to prevent the mass genocide of a subjugated and brainwashed people
@@_Offensivebias_ That point of view seems a touch ethnocentric, the people from this part of the world are tougher than shoe leather, look at what they have to endure just to survive from day today. Do you think the average American can handle that? I realize that question is loaded and unfair, but the truth of the matter is most of us go into meltdown mode if we're separated from our phones for 20 minutes. Plus we didn't exactly have our way in Asia during Korean War in the 50's or the Vietnamese Conflict in the 60's. I love America n I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong, what I am saying is have a little more respect for the toughness and military prowess of people from this area of the world once they put their mind to war.
1:48 I can't even imagine how it must feel to ask that question and not be sure of the answer. I'm amazed by his bravery in even sitting down for this conversation with someone he thinks could see him as an enemy.
The fact he almost cried when the soldier said, "No, you're not my enemy," makes me realize their entire lives are about hating the Americans rather than changing their government.
Thought I was the only one. Shocked I didn't find more comments cause usually when there is an attractive guy in a video, the whole comment section be thirsty.
I am former military and my heart goes to this North Korean soldier. Being a soldier is hard enough, but to be a soldier that wasn’t your choice to and then to starve during non-war time, I feel for this man. Well done to the U.S.A.F. Soldier.
The main takeaway from this video that made me so sad was the fact that extreme hunger was mentioned multiple times. He said he weighed 95 lbs. at one point, that was just terrible! I love how he was so happy not to be looked at as the enemy and I hope his life is filled with wonderful times, friends, and plenty of good food to eat! As a Korean American Soldier in the US Army this video really brightened my day. In the end the people and even its Soldiers of any nation are not really the enemy. The enemy is the government, its leaders and its ideology. I too would love to meet and engage in conversation with a North Korean Soldier in this fashion and learn about them. Put our differences aside and peacefully have a conversation. It is a culture and life that somewhat resembles my origins being born in South Korea.

So sad to hear the NK Soldier's stories, especially that they did not have enough food. I hope that he is now able to eat everything and anything he wants in abundance!
I would love to do this. I spent 20 years in the US Air Force and lived in South Korea for 13 months (Osan Air Base) and was TDY there 7 times for 30 days each. Now that I'm retired, going to Korea to see it again would be nice, but to meet some of the North Koreans who risked their lives for freedom would beat everything hands down.
@@vincentforce1 going off base is fun. Avoid the Juice bars (they only want to take your money) and go easy on the regular bars. The last few months there I started doing the tours with outdoor recreation. Those were a blast (with tons of places to visit), easy on the pocket, and can keep you out of trouble. I kind of wish I started those earlier. Hate to say it but the best way to save money was to limit drinking and stay in the dorms (not all the time, of course). Finally, always, always travel with people. Going solo without knowing Korean is a quick way to be stopped by the US/ROK police. Good luck and have fun!
I'm American, so I find it very hard to understand why NK treats their soldiers so poorly. It breaks my heart to hear that they are goin through such awful conditions.

I've been hoping you guys could do this. Thank you. It was very moving. They were both so respectful and compassionate. You could've done this with any U.S. military member or veteran, but I think the fact you asked a Korean American to participate added another level of poignancy. With the exception of our Native American population, we're a nation of immigrants. You'll find every ethnicity in our Armed Forces. At some point in history, The young U.S. gentleman's family came to the U.S. We know the young N.K. gentleman escaped to S.K. and some of what he's gone through. As an immigrant and an escapee, I know it was not easy for him to begin again in S.K. I've always wanted to know, if we asked any of these N.K. folks this question, what they would answer: "Knowing the society in which you were raised, would you have found it surprising, before you defected, to know that U.S. people are not brought up to hate you? In fact, many people worry about the N.K. people. Given what you were taught, would you have even believed it?"
My heart ached when I heard the NK soldier say he teared up when he asked am I your enemy and is NK? His response was so honest..I can't imagine how hard your life has been..or the things you have endured and seen...and your demeanor still seems as though you didn't let it change you as a person...that to me is beautiful..to see people grow in spite of their situation or issues that may arise..what a beautiful human being...you gave me goosebumps and also hope that we may see each other through all the propaganda as allies..not enemies
Speaking as a veteran, I think all soldiers respect each other. When you're in the military it is not about politics, it's about watching the back of your team and having them watching your back. It's a shared experience of respect. In combat you fight for your brothers not the government. The mission is set by command, but in the heat of things it's about keeping each other alive. A note on the video - I think these guys would be good friends if they stayed in contact.
The dog part is so sad... I understand why, but I just literally can’t imagine it. I am fortunate to have food and a pet. I think I’d starve before eating Beatrice.
Even if I was in an apocalyptic situation, I think having a dog as a companion would still be much more valuable than using it as food. Even a common pet is useful even if it only knows to follow you, and even more so if it's trained for protection or hunting. Of all household animals, I think dogs are the absolute last resort when it comes to having to eat it to survive.
You don't eat your own pets usually, but another dog would be just a dog, and you'd be surprised what you would eat if you were starving. Starvation is literally the worst way to die...so you may not eat Beatrice, but you'd eat your superiors animal the first chance you got if you were starving.
It sounds crazy but he had to do what he had to, to survive. The fact he now has a puppy and feels guilty means he genuinely doesn’t crave dog nor want to hurt them / cook them. It was a survival situation. You eat or you die :/
@@amandaceleste8933 well, yeah, I really get it. It’s a horrible reality. This is brilliant. I'm from a US military family and if we had more of these kind of dialogues the world would be a much better place. Thank you BOTH for your service!
A lot of respect and thanks to these men. I’d love to see more of this. I almost teared up when the North Korean said that he wanted to know him better.
Yeah, the whole eating a puppy thing got me at first because I am American but if you needed to eat then you do what you have to do. Just surviving the North Korean military is worth my admiration of you. I feel so awful that you had to endure that and happy that you escaped. The average American is not hateful towards anyone unless we feel threatened or our family or country is threatened. Honestly, it has only recently been brought to our attention the situation in North Korea and I have nothing but love, hope, peace and happiness to send to you and your people.💞
These guys are awesome. Been through hell, taught to hate us from birth. Yet had enough will and fight in them to escape and find out for themselves... blessings to all!
Maybe, but I think another reason is he comes across a lot of emotional moments. NK is tapped in enough to see this, and they have enough control over their people's movements that they would probably be able to narrow down who this is.
I'm pretty sure it's part of their uniform. I think its because the South Koreans would always say "what are you looking at?!" so they had to add it to the uniform to protect themselves.
Thank you, Captain Dan, for your service to our country. You are an excellent example of class and professionalism. I am proud to claim you as a fellow member of the US military and as a fellow American. I wish you the best of luck in all that you do.
Ok I teared up through this whole video 🥲💝 Really touching to see them exchange experiences with each other 🙂 I hope they both find success and become good friends and be a part of each other’s weekend get togethers!
I am so happy to see a video like this. I am a U.S. Navy Sailor and will be retiring here soon with 20 years and 22 days of service. This video really hit me hard in the heart. It really shows you that we are all the same and if we only could talk to each other. Maybe just maybe we could just work together and make the world a better place and that there is no need to be upset at each other. Yes, it is difficult due to the politics and territory of each country. This teaches me that we can put our differences aside and make the world a better place and not fight each other. There is no denying that some leaders and military leaders have caused us to fight each other in the past in certain conflicts and in certain wars. We have also been brainwashed in ways to fight some wars. We all want the same things. We want our citizens to have the freedom to live their lives the way they choose. We want the liberty to enjoy our lives and have fun and not live in fear of attack. The last thing I will say is. If a human being, woman, or man is harming another human in a torturous manner. If someone or a group of humans is treating others in a cruel fashion. That is why we need the military. If you think you can hurt people, or terrorize them in any way. You should feel comfortable knowing that the military will find those bad guys and they will pay for what they have done. The military will always be a force for good. Treat people with respect. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. Do not be a bad person. Do not do bad things. We can all have our freedoms and enjoy life the way it is intended.
My heart goes out to this soldier from North Korea. It’s hard for me to imagine anyone who’s starving and expected to work so hard. I hope he is healthy and lives a long life. Extremely brave to do what he had to do to survive and escape.
Same. I love dogs, but not even a god can stop a starving person. And I don't blame him, I blame Kim for making his own people starve to stay in Power.
The NK soldier is like, “we only showered once a month, we are only fed rice and corn for 10 years, and my superiors beat me senseless and my country thought I was scum” And the American soldier is like: “I feel you, one time I pooped my pants and someone yelled at me for wearing slippers”
Yeah, I know he was just trying to *empathize and connect* with the NK soldier…but you can’t really compare crap-pants apples to BBQpuppy oranges and not have it sound cringy. 😳😬
They really should’ve gotten an army grunt or marine to do this with. Or even Air Force recon, and not an officer. I feel like the situations would’ve been much more comparable.
what a tragic and unsympathethic and clueless comment to make. This is why it's almost counterproductive to show these kinds of things to Americans - everything is a competition. How disrespectful for you to say someone crapping in their pants for a day isn't dehumanizing, shameful, and horrible? I had a friend who had diarrhea in public once and she was about as traumatized and humiliated as can be. You can't tell me that if you crapped in your pants and had to wear them all day as you went about doing your daily business that you wouldn't be utterly ashamed and humiliated. Yes, starving and having to eat a puppy is equally as tragic and humiliating - but, newsflash, some cultures DO eat dog meat just like any other meat and wouldn't consider that a tragedy - they'd consider that hunting. That would be the same as someone finding and killing a rabbit or chicken or turkey on the road - just because we treat dogs like family doesn't mean the rest of the world does. Some places treat them like just another source of food. The bottom line is - it's childish and uncouth, sometimes, to rate things as better or worse when each person experienced their circumstance as a tragedy. For you to minimize it is really terrible. The point of this is not to make American soldiers look privileged and weak compared to other soldiers who perhaps come from countries who don't treat them as well as we do, but to listen and understand the deep propaganda and indoctrination some people have had to endure. This man spent one year in the armed services and escaped almost immediately to S. Korea in order to get freedoms that a lot of "free" people take for granted. While I hate that he deserted his country (which I understand why) and left his family (tragic) - I am proud that he was brave enough to risk it all for a better life and I hope he's found one. And I hope the American soldier is able to live his best life - and that he really does know and understand how much we appreciate our service men and women all over the world who WILLINGLY lay their lives on the line every single day. I wish the world was a better, kinder, more peaceful place so that no one had to be a soldier, but since that is not the case - I am thankful for all who stand in the gap and endure humiliation and tragedy and pain and loss for those of us who cannot or will not.
holy wow, Haneoul blew me away right there. i could FEEL how emotional he was feeling when he asked, "Was my country and I an enemy to you?" I can only speak of my own personal training while i was in Korea. Withouth giving too much away, we were NEVER trained that NK was an enemy for us. What we WERE trained on, is that NK was a potential aggressor because of the emotional way the military was being ran by Kim Jong Il (yeah sorry i served a long time ago). With all of the nuclear posturing, we were concerned that there were tunnels leading all the way to Pusan, and that an ambush could happen at any moment. but i can promise you one thing, theres was never a HATRED for NK soliders. There was a fear that was generated from genuine respect for the level of conviction all NK soldiers fight with. We knew how hard NK soldiers would fight because this is their corner of the world, and they're defending their home turf. there was not a night that went by while i was there that i wasnt concerned of NK aggression, but to be honest..... i was more afraid of South Korean college students. While i was there serving, US soldiers were getting kidnapped by South Korean college students who absolutely hated our presence. i cant tell you how many times i was coming back from off base and got rocks thrown at me. I never took public transportation either because thats the most common way they grabbed us. so to be 100% honest with you.... while i was serving in Korea, i was more afraid of South Korean angry colege students than I was of North Korean soldiers. Id just met too many defectors and heard their stories of what was REALLY going on up there. When dealing with a NK soldier, it only takes a little time, patience, understanding, and respect.... once they realize that none of those actions are being faked, it immediately brings their defensive wall down. Once they see that we aren't the monsters we are made out to be up there, it completely blows their mind.
Hello Everyone! This is Dimple Team, thank you so much for appreciating today's video. We truly poured our heart into this production. As many of you have commented, we want to give some feedback on Daniel (American Soldier)'s uniform. He has stated that when he was discharged from the military, he was required to return all his uniform. Hence, the uniform he is wearing in the video is one our production team has rented out for the sake of the video only, and why it doesn not have any of his insignia/rank. This is also ensure that he is not held accountable on his statements as a US soldier in behalf of the military, but simply a current civilian sharing his experience. For many of you that may be unfamiliar, many of our appearance guests are defectors from North Korea, and risking their lives by appearing on public media and sharing their stories. If you research on forced repatriation, you can easily find information, on how escaping NK jeapordasies the safety of their remaining family back home. This is why Haneul and a few other guests wear sunglasses for their security. Thank you so much for your curiousity, genuine kindness, and empathy towards North Koreans.. this means so much for our guests and our team. Please continue to show support! Stay Safe :)
Pleeeeeze do more of these conversations! By far and away the most interesting video you've done. Also curious re: basic details about Daniel (eg., where'd he grow up, what's he do now, etc.)
You are not required to return your uniforms I know that for a fact. No branch of service requires that. As far as the North Korean defector, I guess we will have to take your word on that. Just seems a little far fetched do to the fact this guy is in at least another RUclips video with another apparent defector. If that's the case and you are trying to hide your identity, one would not want to be in RUclips.
@@pheb7899 They do not have military service obligations. The official reason is unknown, but the following is estimated. The reasons why they are not obligated are: 1. Most of the time, they suffered extreme hardships during the process of escape already. Many have gone through the torrents and cold water of the Tumen River and the Yalu River, the deadly deserts of Mongolia, police surveillance in China, and the jungles of Laos and Cambodia. 2. There is a distrust of them going back to North Korea. At first, no one expected this, but recently there are cases of returning to North Korea. Those who served in South Korea 's army will then transfer important military knowledge to North Korea. 3. They are unlikely, but they may be hurt within the South Korean army. A hostile South Korean army officer against North Korea may hurt them. 4. If South Korea give military service, North Korean refugees may decrease. 5. In North Korea, those who have performed military service obligations have passed too long. North Korean men have ten years of obligatory service. It is harsh to go to the army again to those who have gone through it. However, a few of them have voluntarily performed or are performing. Their status is known only to the Ministry of Defense, and none of their colleagues know. Realistic needs also exist. From the viewpoint of North Korean defectors, they must have military experience to fully assimilate to Korea. Perhaps many of them would like military service obligations. This can be seen as an unfavorable discrimination.
Just the kind of video I needed right now. Humanity at its best with our great military. Thank you so much for this video. Peace and respect to everyone who reads this and basically to the whole world. ❤
This was so interesting! Both soldiers are Great! You can see they respect and understand each other! I feel this meeting made a difference in their life. This was quite touching!
Mad respect to my brothers up north. You boys are an amazingly formidable opponent, with the class of old British gentlemen's warfare. I have never seen Canadian militaries being accused of wrong doing, and you all really showed us your grit in Iraq and Afghan. I may joke about how polite Canadians are, but it's out of respect as well. I've never heard a Canadian come up for war crimes or crimes against humanity. We, the US, can definitely not say the same. I do sleep easier at night though when I'm back home because I know that Canada would never let an attack hit us without going through Canada first. I hate calling you all allies, I prefer calling you all our brothers/sisters. The world is still so ignorant to how vital Canada's role in Vietnam war was to keeping both sides from annihilating each other. Not only did Canada provide troops, but they also brought hospitals and EOD to try and assist with the land mines left behind. Americans should read more about the 73 peace accords, they'd be shocked
One thing that never gets talked about though.... Canadian special warfare soldiers. When I say elite, I mean every letter in that word. There are very few forces out there that are perfect equals to the US special warfare soldiers, and at times even give a us a run for our money. Mad respect brother
@@adamkahn8645 I appreciate that very much. I served alongside many American troops in Kuwait, Libya and Afghanistan and always thought of them as brothers and sisters....still do to this day.
@@jonathonkeane3598 when our forces deployed together, I never thought about the nationality of everyone around me. Since we were always focused on the same goals, and endured losses on both our sides, it never crossed my mind once not to sacrifice myself to save a brother. Outside that wire, flags don't matter. We didn't do it for love of our country or politics.... when we were engaged with the enemy, we did it for the men standing beside us in the "foxhole". We did it so the man beside us could return to his home with honor and without injury.
I'm not a soldier I have nothing against North Koreans the only person I probably don't like is probably Kim Jong-un I feel so sorry for the people of North Korea I want them to be a free country experience the whole world what the world has to offer I pray one day it will be free this is the most powerful video I've ever seen
You can't get a dictator to do what a free country does... with that being said ... President Trump looked to help the people NOT the dictator. You catch more flies with honey. Praise the very small things while trying to negotiate for a few more smaller things for the people. Like dealing with an abusive, narcissistic spouse. It's all about how you can praise them to allow a bit more freedom for yourself.
This is infinitely interesting. People have a hunger for this kind of reconciliation and learning about the other side. This could easily be a popular series.
These two young men proved what I have thought for a long time. They both were looking forward to being able to spend time with family and friends, everyone together eating a good meal. Life is about love and good food no matter where you are from. Not country, race, color, religion, personal thises or thats. Just being with the ones you love, eating.
The dog part is quite sad but you gonna do what you gonna do to survive. I feel grateful that in our country whenever something happens and food will become scarce we can always eat the vegetables that we planted in our backyard
@@AtLeastThreeCharacters. You never know until you're in a certain situation, for example plane crashes in wastelands lost from civilization people eat dead humans to survive.
Aw, I hope they keep in contact. They seemed to get along really well. I think the American soldier had a hard time conceptualizing how starved he really was. :( (Or, it could be that he was shocked by it.) But I think he understood it, at the end.
Yeah, this was long overdue...I don't judge him eating a dog but..you know how we feel about dogs here...but many feel the very same way about cows...so..No judging...cool story, this guy needs to learn the guitar and become a rock star in the USA..
I had dog (unintentionally) once at a restaurant that tried to pass it off as beef. Totally gross tasting, they were reported & shut down. Yes it is illegal in the states, but he was starving so it is fine to eat a dog for food! I'm not against it as a dish, people have to survive.
For every person who escapes N.K. I am so happy for them in the fact they can finally have the world open up to them and to be loved by all the people. Also never to have to suffer from hunger again. The stories are so unique and also heartbreaking in all they have had to endure. I wish him all the happiness in the world for him and his family.
I genuinely hope that these two were able to stay in touch and become friends after this video. I'm so proud of them for sharing their stories, thank you both so much ❤❤
I really appreciate content like this. This is the stuff we should be taking in, not the total brain rot most content is composed of nowadays. We really need more of this. ❤
Hello everyone,
I’m not active duty anymore and do not have my uniform with me and not allowed to wear my old uniform in this video.

@@kylecronin3379 is like cows, pork, rabbit, chickens etc in America sadly :c
eating a dog, a cow or what animal ever.

@Andrew Jackson maybe the realization came AFTER joining and experiencing war first hand?

"Did you eat a lot in the NK military?"
"Do you not recall the story I just told about stealing, killing, and cooking my commanding officer's dog?"
So sad, the whole NK people were brainwashed!

@@amberdawn4759 Agree.

Extremely brave to do what he had to do to survive and escape.

what a tragic and unsympathethic and clueless comment to make. I wish the world was a better, kinder, more peaceful place so that no one had to be a soldier, but since that is not the case - I am thankful for all who stand in the gap and endure humiliation and tragedy and pain and loss for those of us who cannot or will not.
holy wow, Haneoul blew me away right there. i could FEEL how emotional he was feeling when he asked, "Was my country and I an enemy to you?"
I can only speak of my own personal training while i was in Korea.
That was great!!! Best one yet!!! Definitely need to do more videos like this. So many more questions that they could ask each other

I have watched many of these and they are amazing...always very touching.🇺🇸🇰🇷
You are not required to return your uniforms I know that for a fact. No branch of service requires that. As far as the North Korean defector, I guess we will have to take your word on that. Just seems a little far fetched do to the fact this guy is in at least another RUclips video with another apparent defector. If that's the case and you are trying to hide your identity, one would not want to be in RUclips.
I have a question are north korean still obliged to serve in south korean military forces?
@@pheb7899 They do not have military service obligations. The official reason is unknown, but the following is estimated.
The reasons why they are not obligated are:
I'm so crying for the north koreans. I can stop. I just want to go give him a big hug....
Just the kind of video I needed right now. Humanity at its best with our great military. Thank you so much for this video. Peace and respect to everyone who reads this and basically to the whole world. ❤
This was an amazing exchange, I would love to see more of this content. As a veteran of the US Navy, this really resonated with me. Thank you!
This was so interesting! Both soldiers are Great! You can see they respect and understand each other! I feel this meeting made a difference in their life. This was quite touching!
Love and respect to both of you from an old Canadian veteran.
Same here
Mad respect to my brothers up north.
Kim Jong-un... Donald Trump fan.
@@melangellatc1718 I am under the impression Trump was lied to by Kim Jong-Un, or whatever the situation/s have aspired for Trump to think that way.
I’m beyond happy this was recommended. Please do as many of these with as many different countries as possible! Outstanding!!!
Sometimes you get to really see the wonderful goodness and honesty of all people
Haven't even finished, but thank you both, and the creators and orchestration and those behind it. Binding humanity together.
The dog part is quite sad but you gonna do what you gonna do to survive. I feel grateful that in our country whenever something happens and food will become scarce we can always eat the vegetables that we planted in our backyard
Dog/chicken/cow/pig are the same
@@goldensock2313 I personally would never eat a dog, but meat is meat indeed
@@AtLeastThreeCharacters. You never know until you're in a certain situation, for example plane crashes in wastelands lost from civilization people eat dead humans to survive.
Aw, I hope they keep in contact. They seemed to get along really well.
I think the American soldier had a hard time conceptualizing how starved he really was. :(
(Or, it could be that he was shocked by it.)
But I think he understood it, at the end.
Yeah, this was long overdue...I don't judge him eating a dog but..you know how we feel about dogs here...but many feel the very same way about cows...so..No judging...cool story, this guy needs to learn the guitar and become a rock star in the USA..
I mean I love dogs too, but in situations like that it's necessary. It makes up for it that he even shared with the rest of his mates.
I had dog (unintentionally) once at a restaurant that tried to pass it off as beef. Totally gross tasting, they were reported & shut down. Yes it is illegal in the states, but he was starving so it is fine to eat a dog for food! I'm not against it as a dish, people have to survive.
@@dneal8293 Dish makes it sound like a casual food you eat and not eating a fuckin' dog.
@@fkUTube449 yeah, but not the states.
why do these videos make me cry so much. hearing how much pain these people have been through brings me to tears
Wow , you guys made me cry once again , but it's your most beautiful and best video I ever saw from you
I genuinely hope that these two were able to stay in touch and become friends after this video. I'm so proud of them for sharing their stories, thank you both so much ❤❤
I really appreciate content like this. This is the stuff we should be taking in, not the total brain rot most content is composed of nowadays. We really need more of this. ❤
I agree 100%
