Awesome! Thanks for sharing. We just got Cayuga ducks a few weeks ago and are trying to convert our old chicken coop for the ducks. What did you use for the automatic door opener? And would you have a manufacturer and model number?
I used a generic motor normally used for blinds. www.amazon.com/Motor-Drapery-Existing-Add-Motor/dp/B01N8T8OLQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485580651&sr=8-3&keywords=blinds+motor
What a fantastic duck House and great to recycle the old bed , saves it going in land fill and also bases like that can be quiet expensive. Also loved seeing the whole family involved ,children very sweet x
I see another project in my future! wonder what my wife's going to say about this when she comes home and sees two ducks in the backyard. thanks for the motivation and idea
@cbohn80 You're right on all counts. Now I drain to the yard since the barrel doesn't work well. As for the dog house, that would probably work as long as there was a door that closed since we have a lot a predators. We have already lost two ducks because they have gotten left outside. Now I make sure they are in every night.
What a wonderful video! I wish there was more people in this world like you. My daughter has 25 muscovy ducks as pets. She loves and holds each one of them. Your video has inspired me to build duck houses for them. Right now we put them in chain link kennels with swimming pools at night- with electric fencing around the entire perimeter. There are otters and coyotes that have taken our ducks, too, when we didn't encourage them to go in at night. We make sure they're in now. Thanks for posting!
i think its great how much effort you put in for you ducks but they only need a shelter in extreme weather. a small doghouse would have done the trick. also if you want to keep the pond clean you need a much larger pond and stronger pump. i would try 3 barrels of that size that pour into each other to keep the water somewhat clean, loaded with aquatic plants. i find that its easier just to drain a 50 gallon stock tank on a regular basis and use the old water to fertilize my garden. andgoodluck
Hi everyone, Here are a few updates. 1) The duck pond filter does not work. It just gets clogged up with gunk. 2) The ducks sometime don't go in at night because they like hanging out under the house. Next time I'll build the house directly on the ground.
I really enjoyed the video. I'm building several different poultry enclosures but I needed one pen for "house layers" that include a couple chickens and layer ducks-- I plan to tweak your design to be a little smaller; housing chickens in top to "roost", and walling in the "ground floor" for my ducks.
The house is lovely but ducks, as you noticed, prefer to stay always on the ground, they're not like chickens who fly, roost, and like to go up and down on the stairs.
Looked great keep them safe . the ducks are so quiet & beautiful , im going to get 2or 4 Ducks in spring & where do you think is the best place to buy then ?
you have adorable ducks and adorable children, you should be proud
We have two Cayuga Ducks and a Fawn Runner
yeah but im pretty sure the bed frame is not treated wood? am i correct?? that is the most important thing..

Thanks! It was a fun multi-generational project.

Dave the pond guy if she's like my husband, she'll find herself addicted too!!😂
we have three now :)
I hate seeing people so handy....gawd I can just die of jealousy!
The ramp seemed a little slippery but the ducks sure seemed to like the house. Very cool. www.JesusReallyDoesLoveYou.com
I agree. I put some non-slip tape on the ramp since it was built
I MADE A COMMENT!!!
Thanks, me too.
Nicest duck house I've ever seen. Love the door opener :)

Love your duck house!!
Hi everyone,

Well, this duck house is way over-built, so it cost more than it needed to. I would say the cost with the electric door was approximately $500 USD
Looked great keep them safe . the ducks are so quiet & beautiful , im going to get 2or 4 Ducks in spring & where do you think is the best place to buy then ?
First off: your kiddos are adorable! Second: that is a really well constructed duck house. Now I'll have to see if I can implement some of your ideas.
really cool. i hope to do the same when i live on a farm, except a bigger area for the ducks and own like 200 ducks. but awesome door and design.
No. It was a bad idea. I am planning on building a small self draining pool for the ducks. I'll post a video in a couple months.
starting to build a duck house. What did you use for the remote control door? can I get something like it at a regular hardware store?
They are so cute!! Real nice duck house! It looks like those duckies are spoiled. Nice Job Duckiesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
The blue pond was from toys r us I think, but now I use smaller bins that can be cleaned more easily. They are cayuga ducks
What do u do about the poop and pee. Do you have to pick it up or u just leave it.
No. They are bred not to fly. Cayuga are much quieter than pekin ducks, so I would recommend the cayugas or fawn runners.
Holy crap. You guys are the coolest people EVER. I love ducks but this takes it to a new level. Cool video and I'd love to see more.
How do you keep the pool clean? Mine gets COVERED in algae and takes about an hour to scrub. - Mine isnt plastic though, it's rubber
Hey what kind of ducks do you have? We have two ducklings. One is a pekin but the other we don't know, but he looks similar to yours.
nice vid, does the pond filter work as ive just bought 3 ducks and they are so messy in there pond atm i have to empty it out daily
I Like the use of the drawer slides for the sliding door.
The sliding doors are all stopped up from straw now, but they were good when they worked. Thanks
Want to help me fund a safe, predator proof home for a flock of baby ducklings?
Even just a share helps me out

Cute and
Self cleaning, as in, no electric filters? That'd be impressive! Could you put up a vid if you get a plan working?
No. Ducks can fend off the cats. It is raccoons, skunks and opossum you have to worry about.
The one I use now is awesome. It is a Foscam. Foscam FI8910W Wireless IP Camera (Black)
I agree, though the duck house is still working out for us. Could have done it cheaper.
what is the "pulley system" you have the string from the door attached to? Where can I get one?
What did you use to insulate the house? I love in Maine so it needs to be warm in the winter!!
None of the wood is treated. I just painted it and the tin roof keeps the water off.
I painted it for weather protection. Perhaps the color choice is not the best :)
I use a timer, not a remote control. Yes, a hardware store should do the trick
Great video...Where did you get the blue pond? What type of ducks are those? Thanks
this is an awsome video, i love ducks and am going to get some soon!!! u r awsome
Love the comic nature of ducks. Deluxe duck house and the kids got involved too.
I dont think it's 'way over-built' just shows how much you love your duckies :)

My parents ducks would fight to eat a mouse, rats might be a problem though?
I had this same pool as a child, and I loved it. I want to get one for my nephew. I don’t know if they still make it.
Aww I really want to have a duck pond but my Labs would create mayham :(
I made them myself. It is a bit much, but the ducks are worth it :)
The ducks are now trained to go up the ramp and don't seem to mind.
That is great that you have made such a nice habitat for your ducks.
can they fly? and should i get these kind of ducks or pekin ducks?
Really, really nice. You have happy ducks and a happy family.
I have ducks at home
Yes, You need 15 more ducks. Nice house for just 2 duckies.
Do you really think people can build this?
great job! love the bio-filter idea.
those are nice ducks now you might half to get some more lol
Why did you paint it? And why in this dysentery-green color?
Wonderful! You have lucky ducks, and a cute family too!
Those are very happy ducks! Way to go!
Can't remember, but it is a motor for window blinds
Makes me really want to have some ducks. Nice job. Love y
What a fantastic family video and hobby. Love the ducks!!
Is it like a regular timer you would use for a light?
did you ever get your bio filter to work correctly?
oh boy, you have the luckiest ducks! great work!
I agree. Now we have three, and it is still big
That big just for 2 ducks but I gotta say it's good
