I could swear I recall an interview where a developer said the game is linear to help plays avoid a situation with the Gameboy where, if it was open ended like the original, it'd be too risky for a player to wander off, get lost, then be unable to find a way back before the battery dies. As in, the low battery indicator would shine, and they didn't want players to be unable to find their way back before it would run out and they'd lose progress and try to retrace their steps later (or worse, give up in frustration).
Thank you, I am happy you enjoyed it! And if your interested in metroid content then get ready as I plan to cover quite a bit of the series going forward!
Regarding SR being a 3ds title post switch launch iirc there's a pretty justifiable reason for it. Sakamoto saw this as a trial run for mercury steam, to see if they were the right team to continue the series and made dread, considering the fact this was already a risk it was a smart move to put this on a handheld so dev cost and time would be significantly reduced. Thus if it didn't work out, the loss wouldn't be so great
I love AM2R and Samus Returns. AM2R is just a little bit better IMO, because it respects the calm atmosphere at the end of the game. I like the Ridley fight at the end, but the enemies in the escape tunnel leading to the service screw up the tranquil atmosphere the original had.

I am glad RUclips recommended this to me

Actually, you don’t have to backtrack in AM2R with the Baby. That’s Samus Returns.
