Brew In a Bag Sasquatch Lager | Grain to Glass | 1st BIAB

- Here's my dazzling first attempt using the all grain brew-in-a-bag method (BIAB). I made a lager trying Sasquatch Hops which are a newer proprietary hop from Canada. I didn't really research the hop much before creating the recipe, so I didn't know what to expect.

RECIPE - I made 60L, but here's the recipe for a 19L / 5 gallon batch
Fermentables:
Pilsner - 4 kg (8.8 lbs)
Mash for 60 min, I set the initial temp to 65 C, and it settled to 63 by the end of the mash without stirring.
Hops:
Sasquatch - 15g (1/2 Oz) 60 min
Yeast:
2 pkg S-189 German Lager Yeast (I used slightly less at about 20g total)
Not recommended, but here's what happened with my fermentation...
-Set the chiller to 12 degrees for fermentation.
-Turn off the chiller to speak on a video, then forget to turn it back on
-Fermentation goes back up to 20 degrees
-Turn chiller back on and bring temp back to 12 deg
-Cold crash to 4 deg C
-Turn off chiller / talk on video / forget to turn back on and temp goes back to 13
-Turn on chiller, bring to 2 degrees for gelatin
-Pour in 250ml of gelatin for clearing
-Make another clip for the video and turn off chiller
-Beer warms up and gelatin is useless
-Make another failed attempt at carbonating in the spike CF15
-Rack to keg to finish off carbonating.
-Flawless Victory

Loved your pulley system! Whenever I do BIAB I always lift the bag by hand and use a large sieve, but this looks way more efficient!
It's a bit of setup, but super easy, especially for the larger batches. Cheers!
Amazing 👏
Glad you think so! Cheers!
sweet stash!
I'll look good for my closeup tomorrow! Cheers!
Paused the video …Party Time!!! With the smooth roll in 🤘
The brakes aren't so hot on that thing... Cheers!
Loving your videos man, are you at CFB Trenton? Remember you saying you're in the forces?
I'm out on the East Coast. Been to Trenton a few times but never posted there. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Excellent Thumbnail. Bummer about the stability of the spike conical. Great content man, keep it coming!
Thanks! The spike isn't bad at all, it just always tips a bit when I go to move it around on the castors. If it wasn't on wheels, it wouldn't be too bad. Cheers!
Awesome video! I have found that lager yeast takes a little longer to drop out of suspension even with the use of gelatin. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, I went to my brother's place last night and had some from the keg I gave him and it was crystal clear. I think the haze was purely from being one of the last few beer from the keg, or maybe just that last week or so of conditioning made the difference. Cheers!
Tastes like hay. My horses should love this one, lol.
In the future, that hay taste will be all the rage! Cheers!
Don’t be afraid to squeeze that bag! You can use less water and get better efficiency
agreed
For sure. I need to gear something up to make it a bit easier to squeeze and direct into the pot. I tried twisting it, but that didn't work as well. Cheers!
@@PartyTimeBrewing Get a good pair of PVC coated work gloves. You can find liquid resistant gloves on amazon. Thats what I use.
@@TroubleBrewing Sounds like a plan. I have some that might do the trick, but it would be good to have a quality pair for this type of stuff. Cheers!
I got a brown ale that I’m going to rebrew…. This time I’m thinking about using Sasquatch and Idaho gem
Nice, I haven't revisited the Sasquatch since that brew, but looking forward to trying it again! Let me know how it goes if you have the time. Cheers!
@@PartyTimeBrewing will do bubba!
What were your thoughts on BIAB. think you’ll do it again?
I will for sure do it again! Was pretty easy and with the size, a hell of a lot easier than doing three batches to fill up my bigger fermenter. Probably going to do another within the next week or two. Cheers! Also, congrats in slight advance of the 10k! See you on the Switch!
Where did you get that bag? It looks huge. What size is it?
I ordered it from brewinabag.com and it is a 200 micron 19" x 21". I'm not sure if that is the exact dimensions of the bag or the dimension of the pot. I don't have much experience, but it seems like a great bag. Cheers!
Sasquatch hops should taste like mildew and body odor 😂😂 love your videos Braj!!!!
They were pretty close! Looking forward to trying future iterations of them, but kind of upset I bought a pound.... Cheers!
how does one get to own there own golf cart?
It takes hard work, determination, and the ability to not worry about going deeper in debt.
Stache-squatch!
It gets worse by the day... Cheers!
those that know - cannot explain
those that don't know - cannot understand
Sure. We'll go with that! Cheers Rob!
What that fuck, that intro 😂😂😂🍻
Lately I've been trying to mix them up a bit! Cheers!
Lets do this! Hes secretly dissolving a body under that sleeping bag.....
You'd be surprised how long they take to dissolve. Especially in wort. Next up, a South Park inspired Your Parents Pale Ale. Cheers!
That is a filthy stache. I think grassy might have been the word you couldn't find...
My stache is a damn miracle! Less grassy and more hay-ey.
