In this video I want to go over the very best way to understand what order to use nodes, and why it matters! Getting this knowledge will help you grasp the concept of why we use certain nodes and when and where they should go to make your comps the very best (without errors!).

As always Great video. I'm 71 and these video lessons help keep the old gray matter lubricated. Thank again.
Haha. You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!
Same for this 73 year old. Love your stuff Casey!
Same for this 74 year old...thanks Casey.
Yes please, if you have the time, make a part 2 of this video to go over the rest of the animation. Also if you wanted to cover how you configured the different nodes that would also be great. I used the same node tree as you did, but I could not figured out how to animate the clouds background and I ended up with a static black and white image of the clouds with the ripple effect. It did not merge over the blue background, even though my node connections were exactly the same as yours.
you didnt animate the clouds with keyframes and didnt configurate the apply mode of merge node to ''screen''
excellent , thank you so much
Okay. I think I've found my fusion teacher. How do I know? Because i didn't click off at the first mention of fusion and I watched the video all the way through without feeling overwhelmed once and without feeling the need to flee a fusion video. Breaking the confusion tab down to the fusion by explaining how fusion *actually* works was my little miracle take away. When I better understand the Edit and Fairlight tab and I'm ready for Fusion, I will start that journey with this cat, clouds and blue tutorial. Heartfelt thanks Casey from a curious 73 year old youngster.
😍😍Please continue to explain the animation from the rest of the video. Thanks 🙏
Yes we definitely need more of these simple follow along fusion videos . I watched it once but going to download the media and watch it again as I try to copy the steps.
Beautifully explained. And yes please show us how you did the animation.
Fan-tas-tic tutorial! I am no longer lost and mesmerised by nodes! Thank you!
Wonderful. I don't even bother with the Fusion page anymore because it never made sense to me. This video simplified everything, making it as easy as cutting a video. You've just eliminated a years of frustration for me. Play do a part two
Make this aniimation with me...if you want me to do another video explaining how to make this...*sigh*
I think God sent me here ……. Either that, or the algorithm. This is something that I had to hear. I actually, now, at the end, finally, understand.
Casey… You could never be replaced by artificial intelligence. You’re just too creative. I’ve heard that artificial intelligence can edit a video, but the downside is all the videos look the same. Zero creativity. Stay with it. I see your channel is growing.I’m happy for you. Sometimes, when I use fusion, my system crashes. I think I need a lot more ram.
Absolutely beautiful, Casey! You slowing it down and going really in-depth resulted in a longer video, but it's so easy to follow along. This is a great video !
Well done, thank you. & yes, I'd like to see the rest of your node tree explained. Just learning what nodes are available is a task.
Maaaaan do I like when a video has chapters...

I'm only 69 and have been messing with Resolve for a few years now but this video really brought it back to logical Fusion basics - very helpful and I will watch again and probably multiple times. Thank you.
(And yes I've used Fusion a bit but never really totally "get" the order of nodes up to now).
Yes, make a video that finishes this clip. These little projects are so fun to do.
Casey, if you can, please do an updated video of your scientific render settings! That was extremely helpful for the Resolve community
Great video! I've been watching you for a while now as I've been working to start my RUclips channel. Your videos are super-helpful. Keep up the great work!
very nice content !
I must say. This is the first time I will open Fusion and actually do something.
👍
I like the repetition. Since I don't use fusion every day, it's easy to forget what I learned and then get confused when I get in the program. Thanks for the lesson reinforcement! :)
When does davinci 19 come out?
how do I change the color of an svg logo?
@CaseyFeris I love your expertise and willingness to help however,,, many of us are extremely new to this editor and are looking for guidance from people like you. When you show us new features, you fly through your explanation as though we are 10 years seasoned da Vinci pros and it is extremely hard to follow your speed. Might I suggest you slow down and make your instructions much more basic so you don’t lose people trying to learn what you were showing them. I find myself getting frustrated halfway through your instructions and switching to a different video. Keep up the good work. This is just, my input. Don’t take it in any other way.
Thank you for your amazingly explained videos for davinci resolve,
I'm a follower from Libya 🇱🇾
Thanks a lot.....still can"t understand difference between apply modes.....normal, screen etc...could you cover that ....have a nice day
That's the difference between you and other youtube tutors. They focus on how to do a particular thing and you focus on how and why the particular thing happens. You're like teaching science and others like doing magic show. The explanation and examples were weird, I know. I really like videos focused on concepts like how things work. When I go to learn da Vinci resolve by myself I do not find anything to edit like no videos, graphics and other things but with your videos I can follow along. Thank you!
Thank you for your amazingly explained videos for davinci resolve,
I'm a follower from Libya 🇱🇾
i was excited when i saw the video, but when i heard it was your voice, i was so relieved to know i was actually going to learn something
Great video but it skips at about 15:09 when you're explaining mattecontrol1
Dear Casey, (long time listener, first time caller), million dollar question: in the REFERENCE COMPOSITION is there a way to exclude some settings from global adjustment mode? I created some simple picture in picture comp, that I would like to quickly apply to many clips on my timeline, but I need to be able to adjust framing for each one. How would you go about this problem? Thank you for your work.
Always learn about new node. However, the BlueBG node is not showing. I'm using 18.6. Perhaps a difference to version 19?
You are awesome and so is fusion. Recently read a comment saying fusion could not use vector graphics (ai files and svg). What? What's a workaround for this. What about layered psd files. Is there a hack or workaround?
Super helpful 😮 Thanks ❤
As always, great explainer video for beginners like me. Now i feel a bit more comfortable with the ndoes! Can you make a video about the 3d nodes, specially the imageplane3d and camera3d nodes? how these nodes work? what's the difference between the functions of the transform node and imageplane3d? Thanks!
You’re a hero Casey! Thank you.
I have a question. Usually I tend not to download Beta versions and rather wait until the official release of the new version. Seems like there are no updates to version 18 after 18.6, so is version 19 stable? If installing it, is it ok to remove version 18.6?
Casey, I've noticed you make a lot of beginner focused vids. Nothing wrong with that, but it would be great to see some more advanced stuff. Anyway, great vids : )
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make part 2+ with the full walk thru for the whole animation !
And or at least show us the settings you used on each effects node (e.g. what you changed on the brightness/contrast node, etc)
Bro, When we create a 24 fps timline sequence for a movie .which have little different mixed fps clips like 60 fps ,120..etc for slowmotion.should I keep 24fps has timeline sequence or want to convert all footage to 24 fps. Does the slowmotion work great without converting the high fps footage in davinci resolve ?
Bro please can you explain?
I had a problem when I wanted to add a fade-in effect to a PNG in Fusion. The PNG is on top of a clip using a tracker, so I want the PNG to track and fade in at the same time. I don't know how to do it. Thanks for your help.
You are not going step by step, totally useless clip as if we have some background info on the using nodes. Please do not pretend we know some knowledge on the nodes. Get real will you?. You did not explain how to get the background image, I have lost the mediaout node part many times in order to follow.
please explain the 3 lines coming out of transform2 (going to corner position, TimeSpeed1, TimeSpeed2). I assume that flow eventually creates three different layers merged one on top of another in merge2, merge3, merge4, and that these merges are all affected by everything before the 3 lines?
Thank you!!, your videos have helped me a lot to understand this application, what I find hard to understand sometimes is, why people who watch videos on YT, do not help more with giving likes to the videos, thank you very much brother. Part 2 please.
Thanks bro, it's totally clear to me. Thanks again 👍
Unfortunately, you failed to answer the most obvious question. Why is the cat purple?
This was fun, thanks! Watched all the way to the end. Downloaded the media. Ended up with a relatively similar floating cat. edit: Appreciated the tip about Workspace arrangement and holding shift while dragging on a node (so it inserts into the middle of a path). Very handy tips watching the process.
Casey - this was excellent. I for one would love to see how the rest of this came together. I’ve been getting use to Fusion and this video was great and helps make sense of using Fusion. So, do another episode showing the rest of the comp.
I use fusion for a long time and am very proficient. But I still watched the fundamentals.
Even if takes my life.. please contact and help us to learn more on fusion. I dont wanna be an alien with fusion.. and let me know if all you teach is available in free version Da Vinci 18.6. Bless you. Thanks ❤ loved it n more
Thanks heaps Casey. Another great tutorial. Please continue with part two as part one was super helpful.
When i read the title, i jumped in thinking this was going to address the rasterisation issues when you scale something down, add an effect node such as blur (even if you turn the blend to 0) and scale it back up, you would have lost quality as anything other than merges or XF transforms rasterises the input
Then i realised this is a channel for beginners halfway through the video lol
Though it did seem like one of the better ones of that category
I would also be sure to let beginners know that the different in points for the nodes are not fixed. i.e. the foreground/background/mask can move position on the node.
Nice Explanation! Would love to see you illustrate this on an animated party flyer which encompasses a real world use.
Fab as always Casey, yes please to the 2nd part for animation, as this is the next part of my Fusion journey!
Love your work and easy to understand. Thanks Mr. Miyagi
you make great videos but damn your personality is entertaining! Equal doses of moxie and sass!
Thank you so much Casey 🖤 your lessons and the way you explain that helps me a lot to learn fuision pretty easily!!
May god bless you 🖤
Another fab video, thanks so much. Did you do a part two?
This was wonderful. The elementary teaching is so helpful!
Great lesson, thanks for slowing it down a little, that helps! Look forward to a part 2 to finish this??
You my friend, are amazing!
DEFINITELY DIDNT KNOW THERE WERE PRESETS FOR FUSION LAYOUTS 😮
I want more Wiener humor! Bring back that dog from space!!
Awesome video! Yes, I’d love to see some more of the inner tube cat’s adventures!!
Yes please make the animation video! Would be greatly appreciated
I watched it on 16x times speed so I'd learn faster
i think i finally un understood it 😅... i promise to do my homework😃
Long enough, yes, but with 23 minutes might as well finish it out 😂
we love to watch the rest of it
yes please another video! Thanks for this great content.
waiting for part 2)
Please make a part 2 to this. It is very helpful. I would also love to see you talk about key frames. Thanks
Yep. We have a short Keyframes course here: www.groundcontrol.film/tw-keyframe-animation-made-simple
Wow, so clear and patient! Thank-you!
Thanks Casey, appreciate all of your efforts.
Thanks Casey. You make things very clear
Absolutely yes to learning more on the animation for this
Having I was trouble this with but super it's now my mind clear in! Casey thanks!
“I was Having trouble with this, but now it’s super clear in my mind. Thanks Casey!”
Lol... not the last dragon.
Thank you for this
What would you suggest for editing in fusion without the color page mucking up the edits if you use node CST rather than color managed
You can use a CST in fusion with the same settings to preview it!
I want the rest of the tutorial! I love your vids!
Great work as usual...
A special Thanks for "banging on" about the basic concepts and ordering of nodes ... Very helpful.. ❤
This is an important video! Thank you!
You are the GOAT. I would definitely appreciate you walking through the rest of this comp!
I remember your toast video which inspired me to learn fusion and this will now be used as a new reference. Thanks for your great teaching knowledge and explanations.
Wow big thank you for doing this!!!!
Yes, please continue! My Fusion abilities are improving, but I enjoy beginner content as a refresher.
very useful. I sort of knew all this stuff but organising the information and defining and explaining methods set it all in the right direction.
As always ansome video. keep it up.
Super useful. Thank you Casey 👏
Casey is that rare guy who can explain difficult concepts and make them seem easy. Thank you! Please make the next video to show the animated cat over the water ripple. 😍
Your channel has been so helpful, thank you!
Inspired by what you make, I’m really trying to learn and explore the power of the Fusion page recently, but have encountered an issue with my macros that I can’t figure out how to fix.
As a simple example, let’s say I have a rectangle that starts at zoom size 0.25 and then grows to 0.5 over 10 frames using a key frame in a transform node. When I export the macro I want to give the user control of the final zoom size at the 10 frame key frame point, but I don’t want them to have control of the 0.25 starting zoom size.
Currently when I export a macro with this zoom control available, any changes made by the user in the inspector will instead Zoom the 0.25 start point and then continue to the 0.5 zoom key frame point, 10 frames into the effect.
Am I missing something obvious? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Best wishes. Joel.
I'd look up Patrick's videos on AnimCurves. That will help you a lot.
@@CaseyFaris Thanks Casey. I actually watched it earlier today on my search for answers and all my dreams came true. 😂 Thanks for your reply. Hope you’re well. Joel.
Thank you, thank you , thank you 💯💯
Thank you for super video..
do some more. I watched until the end
This was a great walkthrough of the "whys" and "hows" of nodes. Thanks.
YES, lease continue on with this
You are really good at what you do
Great Video! Thank you!
