Live within 30min of these guys. Used only their LEDs for my mods.
I would recommend using a chisel tip. it makes removing the led a lot easier because you can heat both pads at the same time and push the led off with out extra solder. A small drop of flux goes a long way too.
I would recommend using all 0603's. The video says to use a couple 0805's, but have since changed my mind on that. I've made a ton of these boards and this is what I recommend.
No problem, we do know EXACTLY what we are doing over here. Good quality vids are just more difficult than people think they are.
It is easy. Simply remove the middle led and then treat that bicolor led as two separate ones. The left set of pads is the primary and the right set of pads is the error led. The dot indicates the negative.
thumbs up for the tut,and taking the time to answer,even when having your work questioned...: }
I almost completely agree!! We aren't the only, but we are definitely the BEST!!!
Thank you very much for the good word!!! We do out best to provide the best stuff at the best prices and service.
Thanks for the good word!!! We do our best to provide good products at affordable prices.
I believe that is how we first did them. Be sure to use 0603's though, it is much easier. Just do as the video says and you will be good to do. Thanks.
It is very easy to use the solder as shown to remove the leds. The time I did it on the close up looked painfully hard, but it was tough for me to do it with the camera in the way. The led usually comes off almost instantly. There's more than one way to skin a cat though. lol.
Two different colors. Right led location is the error.
I would actually recommend using all 0603's. We have switched to all 0603's since the video because of small color variations between two different size LEDs. This way they are all known to be the same shade. You were right though.
Since doing the video I have built many of the boards and now recommend 2 0603's in the middle as well, only for the fact that the shade of the color will be the exact same as the outer ones.
Very correct, they don't take any pressure really.
We are great!!! I guarantee you will be satisfied with the service and products.
I would recommend 0603's for all of them now. We have changed it from the way we started.
Just use 2 0603's. The vid states 0805's, which will work just great, but the 0603's work well and that way you don't need to buy different size leds and can just use the 0603's for the whole board.
Thanks for the support!!
Most definitely, you can pick up the tools in our shop (Niktronix). Thank you for your appreciation of what the video is meant for.
Yes, they will still show through. I would not really suggest using white though as it will tint it green. The others work well though.
They are necessary. 0603's are not large enough to bridge the gap. The 0805's are an absolute perfect fit for the middle.
Heck ya it would be sweet with red.. You can get them in our online store. Just google niktronix. The video states which ones you need.
the tv has to be on and to the appropriate channel for the system to boot up and have the lights come on. very easy to over look.
We don't need the negative comments here. Please take them else where. Thanks. P.S. It is "you're" not "your".
We have them in our store: Niktronix
There is a difference between perfection and getting the job done. Trust me, I have soldered thousands of ring of light boards. I do know what I'm doing. Most people don't have a de-solder pump, but do have an exacto and either way will work just as good. That is why I said only do it if you are comfortable or you can use one of the other methods suggested. Other than that, if you'd like to make a better video, be my guest.
Yes, you can just go to our online store. Google Niktronix or type in the URL in the link. They are under the Xbox 360 Slim category. Thanks.
No, we do not at this moment. They aren't in circulation yet. If you want to send your board in we can mod it for you. If you are interested send us a message. Thanks.
Hit these guys up! Only place to get parts for your custom systems!
We have all sorts of led colors. Just google Niktronix to find out store. Thanks. :) enjoy.
You can, but it may or may not allow them to be completely free. It can be a little tricky sometimes.
No, we do not yet, but you take yours out and send it to us, we can definitely mod it of you. Just contact us if you would like to do that. Thanks.
We don't offer the slim ROL boards yet, but when we do give us an email and I'm sure we can work something out. Thanks.
Thanks for the compliment!!! That's what happens when you've soldered thousands of those leds. lol
You are very welcome.
Sweet vid, thanks
For an actual xbox controller, use 0603 smds. Just do a search in our store and they will come up.
If you are careful, yes
yeah thanks man you guys are good i found this other site giveing 6 smds for $5.50 rip off only thing was when i order the site dint tell me u guys ran outa something i order just post that fr next time so i dont find out when the mail comes
that is INSANEE, same color i wanted to do, lol
@DontB3StUpiD23 You can use just 0603 size and you will be good. I have actually began making them like this. Thank.s
smaller than1206. Use the suggested sizes.
In my store!!! lol.... We should have some more soon. Just google niktronix. :) happy holidays!!
That's a tough one. Trace repair isn't easy. I would recommend looking up some techniques online.
You should make a diagram showing which way the leds go???
@DontB3StUpiD23 8 for the player lights and 2 for the inside (10 total).
It was difficult to do up close with the camera right there. They go much faster and easier without the camera in the way.
That is correct
Hey man, I'm gonna mod my ROL board, I'm ordering the smd's soon. My question is about the surface mounted resistors. I didn't see any in the video (maybe I wasn't looking hard enough lol) immediately next to the smd's. Where are the resistors you referred to?
never done a slim rf board before, going to attempt one shortly, would have liked to see how you did centre led,any chance you can give me a heads up.?
Yes.
and to be fair i would recommend a new tip, looks a bit worse for wear...but i suppose if it does the job.cool.but i would have trashed that a long time ago.in fact i have never had a tip get so bad..
There is a small dot next to the pads, that is negative.
I'm just curious, wouldn't it have been easier to use thermal tweezers or at least two soldering stations instead of placing all that solder on the board?
(Another question, there's two LED's side by side. Is that two green LED's or 1 green and a different color for error?)
Oh and... One of the pink leds on my controller turned purple after I soldered it. I did the lights while the controller was on so I know it WAS pink but after the solder it went purple. What did I do wrong?
Also I know you said you could on the middle one, but does that go for all of them and possibly the LED's on the controller?
Ok wait so the small 0603 ones were the outside lights and the 0805s are the middle ones?
Did u have to remove the green plastic inside the button on the faceplate?
Yes, hey have to be put on properly or they will not work
The right led is for an error. I wouldn't recommend jumping it.
Can you just use Desoldering Braid to suck up the solder holding on the original LED's?
Could be too much heat that was applied to it.
So the leds on the slim ROL are the tiny controller ones? The old xbox one were the little bit bigger ones, correct?
give you a "like" as payment for showing the centre led install
Also, when you replace the center led, does that remove the ability to flash the red warning when there's an error?
Also, I did leds in one of my old controllers as a practice run, but I took off the contact point along with a wire, is there any fixing that? Lol doubt it but I can hope right?
there is a green film thing on the front of my xbox 360 slim face plate will the color of my new leds still show through?
What are the 0805 smd's used for? The middle light? And the 0605 r used for the player indicator?
When you are taking the old green lights of of the board do they still work?
@KillfeedOMG that allows your face plate to work without it you wont be able to use the eject and power button on the face plate i would just buy a new board
how do u tell the postive and nevetive on the leds
did you do 2 smd'd for centre, opposite each other??????
how do you know waer the resetter is can you see it
Do you sell the boards with the lights already on them so I could quickly change them up?
isnt there a unsolderer?
No, we don't. The boards available for us to purchase yet. Thanks tho
Can you do this for my xbox it's not a slim it's a 2008 model or 2009
@NiktronixOnline What type of LED's do I use for a non-actual xbox controller?
do I need 2 0805 smd leds for the middle or could I just use 2 0603's
about how many od the 0603 lights will u need
is it possible to put an RGB SMD in the xbox?
do you guys sell pre done rol boards?
Are the 0805 lights completely necessary? Or can I just use another 0603?
look at the polarity guide on our website. google: Niktronix
so dude, u put solder over the leds, then wat? confused me
do u need the 0805 led
Best bet would be ebay. Someone may be parting out an xbox
Do you sell the xbox slim ROL boards? i was looking on your site and all i saw was original boards.
anything is possible :)
Not it is not. I have solder over 10,000 smds exactly as the ones shown with that exact iron.
Where are you located? I'm sure we can work something out.
Not for the slim. They aren't available yet.
i cant believe mine wont work. i soldered all 8 on and the middle one... and none lit up. ive modded over 40 of the normal ones and the first slim one i try doesnt work. haha wtf! such bullshit. ive tried pink, blue, and red. different ways.. nothing. i kno i didnt remove anything off the board cause i was being careful.
hey um can i buy a ROL board off any sites or anthing i fucked mine up :/ now cant get power to the front ROL cause the ribon connection port on the ROL snapped off during a hotswap and case mod
or you can use a heat gun with a concentrated tip :) there are many ways to skin a cat.
@DontB3StUpiD23 k thanks i just placed a order.. i havent been able to turn my xbox on all day =(
hun? What do you mean
DID anyone buy off this web site beofr how is it???
i got 100 leds of my choice for 15 bucks on ebay
ha ha... Ya, a little overkill for the job, but it got it done. That is probably the worst aspect of the whole mod. I am trying to think of an easier solution for everyone that is also readily accessible to anyone with pretty much just an iron and solder. If anyone has any ideas please let us know. We are aware of desolder pumps and desolder braid, but these aren't typically something that "everyone" has.
