The meaning behind this song is that lorde is singing to the older generation, talking about how they left us to fix their mistakes, and how we will ultimately do the same to the generation that comes after us.
That's such an interesting interpretation. I knew the first half but I hadn't even considered that she was saying that we will do the same. I always thought the ending was hopeful, a pocketful of seeds, like we were going to change, but it completely makes so much sense that we'll make the same mistakes, I get it now
@@parmesancheese9445 from what I got from the album, the main idea is this concept of an utopian new island/world we will all head to because this earth has no more salvation. The more obvious tracks about this are for sure the path (which talks about how we’ll ‘follow’ this path to the island), fallen fruit (which talks about the current world) and leader of the new regime (which talks abt lorde leaving this world and heading to the island, wondering how will that life be).
For me, fallen fruit is a letter to the older generation, a complaint about having to leave the planet Earth, and a flicker of hope about the new utopia (which is just an abstract concept), hence the “took the great minds, and the vapers, and a pocket full of seeds”, indicating a new start for a new society that, hopefully, will treat nature as it should be treated
obviously, there is no “new island”, and that, for me, is what makes this song even sadder :(
@@Chris-ug7jm Love it. But maybe there is an island? There’s a whole psychedelic realm that goes along with this album. She mentions it in Fallen Fruit. Maybe it’s ascension she’s talking about?
Getting to the utopian world after this one is all used up. Maybe consciously we ascend
It's more to do with the downfall of celebrities
@@black_nebula i kinda think of the island as being nz/her getaway from all the fame and craziness that the united states has to offer, since it's so under the radar
What a graceful woman she's become, I'm so proud of her growth, both in her music and in her persona
The way she looks down when they are talking about her grammys and records
She's a fake
It doesn't define her
@@JR-tj9qo you're a weirdo man, commenting that on all her live performances lmao

Fallen Fruit is one my favorite in the album. It has that pure Heroine vibes in the middle
Yessss ❤
Yes. It does! Also gives me Fleetwood Mac vibes.
OMG I felt the same
I also get melodrama vibes cuz of the theatrical vocals, I hope she uses it as the next single, it could have been easily the first single released imo
Like around at 3:12?
This song is my favorite of this great album, it's so emotional and beautiful like pondering after the catastrophe with the rain falling, I'll cherish it in the fall, pondering the (climate and other) catastrophes that summer left behind all the way to our shared birthday in November. Thank you Lorde, you're really *awe* - some.
My fav from the album yaaaas
IM SO GLAD SHE DECIDED TO PREFORM THIS LORDE ILY
I'm literally crying it's so beautiful
SHE IS SO TALENTED I LOVE HER
THE STARS AND THE UNIVERSE
My favorite song of the album! 💖
Best song of the album. Period.
I like Lorde alot bc my oldest sister used to listen to her alot and they also look kinda alike. So when I hear Lorde I just instantly think about my oldest sister. Especially Royals
To the ones who came before us
All the golden ones who were lifted on a wing
We had no idea the dreams we had were far too big
Far too big
And we will walk together
Psychedelic garlands in our hair
Through the halls of splendor where the apple trees all grew
You'll leave us dancing on the fallen fruit
(The fallen fruit)
(The fallen fruit)
(The fallen fruit)
From the Nissan, to the Phantom, to the plane
We'll disappear in the cover of the rain
Took the great minds and the vapers
And a pocketful of seed
It's time for us to leave
And we will walk together
Psychedelic garlands in our hair
But how can I love what I know I am gonna lose?
Don't make me choose
What a beautiful voice ❤️😍😍😍😍
This album is ART!❤️❤️
Just perfect 💖☀️🌅
Lordeeeee!
She has long suffering fans, they have to wait forever for her music
And they wait because every Album has been a masterpiece. They wait because they know it takes her time to liev more of her life, before she can write about ti. They wait because she then builds an entire visual world for them to visit and share in on Tour. They wait, because she's worth waiting for. I wait, and I'm a '60's baby. This woman is a once in a life time talent. So, I'm making the most of this Album cycle and I urge every fans to share this Album with their Parents and Grandpaernts.
geez so good. ps latin america says hi to all o’ america too

lorde now accompanied by 5 guitars, 8 years ago even a world alone’s guitars were played with samples . growth
this comment literally won my heart
I think it's 3 electric guitars, 1 guitar and a Bass
@@EnricoRechden electric guitars, acoustic guitars and bass guitars... All are types of guitar
She's got the budget now. So nice to see, she really deserves it.
This is my favorite song the album on the first listen I listened to it twice. I love how the guitars sound in this album makes me feel so warm inside
Then listen to 70s music!! You’ll love it!!
The whole album is a masterpiece, honestly.
Then why did it get a 6.8 on pitchfork?
@@brentthompson1607 the same way it got 100 on NME. It's music, not math.

This song feels so ethereal!! It is beautiful.
As a '60's baby from the UK. I sat, with my headphones on, in the dark, already open to what was coming next.
Solar Power hinted at it, Stoned at The Nail Salon nibbled at it, and Mood Ring winked at it.
With each, and EVERY song, Ella confirmed it for me. This album, in all it's nooks and crannies, is a thank you. It's a love letter to every person who raised her, and quite literally, every musician who raised her Mum and Dad.
The vast majority of her loyal fans are not my age. Their sonic emotional journey through life is not that of me, my contemporaries or her Mum and Dad. But, they're going to absolutely ADORE Ella for introducing them to the music that storied her childhood, that shaped her musical sensibilities, that made her feel safe.
Thank you Ella, thank you Mr. O' Connor and thank you Ms. Yellich.
This has to be one of the best comments I have ever read here.

@@lorenzovillaester8771 Geez, thanks very much. I hope you find something to love in this album. It's unlocked my memory banks already. And I'm finding new references, or hearing similarities to music I hadn't touched in decades. Be safe and be well Lorenzo
OMG! That’s so beautiful! Thank you for writing this
*tbh solar power album is not my kind of music but it grows on you! Im glad that once again, i am falling inlove to lorde's music*
@Kerby Galang - That's what I love about Lorde - her records have little Easter eggs all through them, and for me, Ella is quite possibly - the only modern artist to produce "POP" records with the Prog Rock album highlights. (I don't know if it's intentional or if she's even consciously aware). But ALL of her Albums bear the classic Prog Rock Hallmarks. Literally every time you put it on, you hear a new thing, and I adore her for it.
@@100PCMMCW little easter eggs!! Yesss!!! But Taylor Swift's music (folklore&evermore) are masterpieces too
@@delicateswiftie I'll be honest- I haven't listened to either of them as of yet - but I've read and heard good things - (the last Album I enjoyed the music of was Reputation, and her visuals for that were jaw droppingly good)
this song will aging like a fine wine. A beauty
How privileged are we to watch this amazing artist.
the guitar solo instrumental part is so good
This song makes me so emotional because of worries about tomorrow. I know Lorde performed not to be acknowledged but to send a message. I can see it in her face. Tomorrow is never a promise and with what’s happening around, it’s really not doing so great. From the song, we are told we had done beyond the limits and it’s affecting all of us. our dreams were far too big now consequence will follow. The end could really be near us and it worries me because I have a child and the thought of things getting worse is so unbearable.
Spiritually, I still hope for things to get better that higher power and mercy will reign over us. but we all have to do something even small things count.
2:33 that moment when you're happy and then Melodrama feelings kick back in
My favorite part of the whole album tbh.
God she is so beautiful, she SHINES.
the album keeps getting better, thank you for another masterpiece Lorde
I am in love with this era, the songs, the outfits, and the whole aesthetic ☀️ her voice sounds so good live and the back up vocals were on point!
This Album is a sublime autobiography, love letter and thank you all rolled into one beautiful document. it is the most comprehensive, cohesive and complex ode to 60 years of musical styles, musical genres and specific artists all while sharing with us, her fans, the music that's bookmarked her life! What a precious gift!!!
Literally every song is delivered flawlessly in multiple iconic vocal and musical styles that are both a tribute to specific artists, (sometimes just stylistically), but in almost every song, a tribute to a specific album, song AND lyric or refrain all at once. It's genius! To produce an album that's going to remind older folk like me of times long forgotten whilst telling her own story. That concurrently shares the musical influences of her life's journey to date with her contemporaries who may never ever have heard the music from the '60's and '70's that went onto influence the Pop stars of the future - is GENIUS!!! To be blunt, in my humble opinion - this is the most complicated, complex and comprehensive compendium of 60 years of "Pop" music ever produced in a single Album.
This album will keep giving to every listener for decades to come because it's handed her fans THE KEY to a life times journey in music.
THAT RUN AT THE END THO!
Thanks for giving importance to the instrumental part! It’s always good to see real musicians playing in our generation
Heard her on an interview and her speaking voice sounds so mature.
I appreciate her performing barefoot here. She looked like a goddess.

I know a lot of people doesn't like Solar Power but I do feel that this album will be appreaciated in the future long after she outlives her songs.
I didn't see this on last Friday's GMA3 episode. Breaking news interrupted the last 10 minutes. Glad to see it on GMA's RUclips channel. Everything's alright now.

With all due respect, I feel like this music is being REBORN, a re-introduction for some and an introduction for others, to the beautiful icons of the '60's and '70's at times fused with the late '90's and '00's. It is a stunning collection of iconic harmonies. key shifts, time signature switch ups, all harking back to beautiful music of yore. Welcome to the Rabbit Hole of musical journeys

Wow Lorde is Amazing
i love how she just stands there like a G O D D E S S
Oh fuck I really need this on next show
the vibe seems so good
she looked like she was having inear issues :(
I just clicked on this video randomly to find Maddie Jay playing in Lorde's backing band??? what an insane crossover
I'd never heard of her before the album launch (Maddie Jay) but I think I recall correctly, reading a very nice article ina Texas based outlet.(?) Lorde has retained Ben Barter on Drums and Jimmy Mac on Keys from the start os her career, and last Album cycle Ray Suel joined her entourage and he's returned this time too. The gentleman playing guitar nearest the drunmmer. The Album has a recorded Sound Staging that emulates the live performance positions of her band members, and this is the first Album where Lorde uses other Female vocalists, as in the past all of her backing vocals and harmonies were created by Lorde herself layering her vocals. Typically Live from what I've seen over the years, Lorde flexes between taking the lower register front and center, and soaring in her higher register. It seems to be deeply linked to whatever mood she's feeling in the moment relative to the lyrics and whichever emotion she would prefer to invoke in her audience. SO, seeing her and hearing with other vocalists is fantastic for me. Such a rich tapestry of tones and textures. I'm in love with this Album and her growth in production. Her musical choices for this album are stunning.
I got chills lorde
GOD BLESS MYSELF! LORDE MAKES MY DAY!
