I've really loved this new format and this series. Thanks for the shout out! Man, i was enjoying this episode and then all the sudden you were talking about me, that was surreal. I do appreciate Tommy clarifying, that his flying is all fun, but it just happens to line up with jobs, videos for the channel etc... I actually can relate to this a lot I have so much stuff coming to me lately, that every time I do go fly for "fun", i have 2 cameras with me, mic, etc.... So its for fun, but i find a way to work in the "work" for the channel into those outings. Sounds like, on a larger, more commercial way, tommy is doing the same, which does make me feel a lot better for him. It has been so awesome getting insights into his way approaching FPV as a business, and hearing some of the history.
I had suspected that it was something of the sort. But yeah, man, I love talking about you in general, hah! You seem to have some very interesting viewpoints, and for the most part I like them :)
He definitely impacted me, as well. I got in later than you, by far, but his style, the moves he created, quite a few things found their way into my flying. Hope you're well, my friend! We need to catch up soon. :)
Yeah the "flying for fun" thing is becoming more important to me now as well. When I started I frowned upon this "oh we *NEED* to have fun" and you're not having fun if you're filming etc. etc. - I always had a plan to like make a video. But recently I got hired as a professional drone-pilot and technician and yeah I totally love it! But when I finally found time last weekend to go out for myself, with my own quad and my GoPro - it did feel a little different. More liberated and like just enjoying myself, y'know...^^ Thans Mike and also big thanks to Tommy!
Hi Michael! Let me congratulate you on this excellent interview. I really enjoyed it! Didn't know to much about Tommy and now know a lot! Tommy is a great person with an awesome personality! Knowing him better definitely adds a lot of value to the appreciation of the hobby. This is a remarkable job between you guys!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Tommy was one of the ones that I had always wanted to interview early on. Schedules never matched, but I'm so very happy that we've made it work twice, now. It's pretty amazing to hear the stories of the "old days".
Such a great interview! But I have to disagree wiht you, Tommy on two points: Your greatest impact to the community today! is not your bridge-dive, but your Duga Dive. - Why is that? Yes, when you did the bridge dive, I was just new to the hobby and also could not imagine, that you could stear your quad that good that evenual winds etc. wouldn't impact you and bad things could happen. - A year later, as i then was an FPV Pilot myself, I could assess that much better, but all the beginners simply can not. That's what inspired that whole "panic". But your Duga dive really inspired all new pilots I already meat since then because it showed the community aspect of all the friends trying to manage that challange and when you made it, everybody was so excited, pumped up with adrenaline and was so happy for you. That's what at least our goup inspired (we all watched it, also the new, young pilots) and what we do almost every time we fly: We set challenges and are happy for the one who manages them. And what? ... Your _first_ "feature film"? I have a personal "FPV Music Videos" Playlist, which I play on TV when I have some guests. Music with FPV on a TV, just like in a sports bar. And every time, "I am drone" runs, everybody thinks that's sooooooo cool. I love that video! It's my favorite short video of all times! I have probably watched it now for about 100 times and still can't get enought of it... such a great story with amazing shots! Imho, this one is your first real feature film. It showcases everything you were able to do with a miniquad. OK, I understand that now that you have done a lot of commercial gigs that for furure producers some cinema shots will be even more exciting, but "I am drone" was a masterpiece for me! So I am now totally thrilled that I know that I can expect another masterpiece and cant wait until we may see it. Btw.: Only flying your's and Bob's frames since years and expecially the Remix is so well balanced that it is my daily goto. But you have to get used to the little different flying characteristics to bottom mount arms. And it's the strongest of not only my fleet, but survived the drones of all of my frinds also! Aaaaahhhhh.... when will wour video come out? ;-) Many greetings fro germany!
I think that you have some very solid points there. It's easy as the one that did them all to discount the good ones and focus on the bad ones. I know that I do the same. But Tommy made a huge impact on so many with the Duga Dive and "All Dives Matter".
Love what you’re doing here, Michael. Great interviews, and great concept on doing “History of FPV.” I for One am stoked to see what other pieces you have lined up for the series. Looking forward to it. Also, where can I find this bridge dive you guys were talking about? Do you know the name of the RR video by chance?
Great interview with Tommy, definitely seems to be very straight forward kinda guy. Can see about the going from having fun with just flying or out with friends to making it a serious business. Because when it becomes more of what your client wants vs what your idea of a great shot should be the fun aspect gets pushed out of the way.
The interesting thing about FPV right now is that you often get to define the shot for them. I'm sure at the level Tommy is at you don't get to do it as much, but I also love being given constraints, so I can see that that could be somewhat of a challenge.
I wonder if Tommy will ever make those props in a different color? LOved those episodes with Tommy maybe you can get some other Pilots like the ones mentioned. Blackout , BorisB MetalDanny, Charpu those elusive guys

Tommy impacted me! I used to watch his ESC tuning/sync vids way back in the day.
He definitely impacted me, as well. I got in later than you, by far, but his style, the moves he created, quite a few things found their way into my flying. Hope you're well, my friend! We need to catch up soon. :)
Thank you for making this series!
Anytime my man! Congrats on your 7th and 8th kid!!!!

Tommy is such a great guy, even in person (IO19). Always shares great stories and knowledge.
