Gotta respect the compressed air start on those engines. Extremely effective in cold temperatures. Glad to see such a well preserved example of Russian engineering history being maintained and demonstrated.
those tanks had a smoke screen system built in, so that could be it. They would dump oil into the engine or something and it would create a bunch of smoke, effectively hiding the tank from the enemy
This would be fun to show off at county fairs: "Look, Dad, a real tank engine!" But to have the T-34 or T-55 that went with the engine? Boys of all ages would want a ride!
Is that a V2 used in the T 34? Given the size of these engines, the power is quite low. But I'm sure it makes up for in reliability and torque being a diesel.
Its not about fuel economy, unburnt fuel leaving the exhaust like that means reduced power. Its smoking like this due to worn out injection components..
The V2 was so badly made that it often only lasted 30 hours, these engines had both electrical and air starting. The engine short life was not seen as important becouse the T34 was not expected to last that long. The main reason for the short life of the engine was the air filter system. It has been said that an emeny could of not of designed it better
pavettto If you are using diesel as a lubricant instead of motor oil then I have some bad news for you :) This engine smokes like crazy at no load, it is usually caused by massive (motor) oil consumption.
mibars Well diesel is a lubricant too, so basically it could work. Haven't tried, but I guess I could pour diesel in my car the next time I change the oil.
Please don't do that :) It will work, but engine wear would be extreme! FYI: There is a common problem with new DPF fitted diesel engines that cause dilluting of motor oil with diesel oil - to be more precise it happens when DPF regen occurs at wrong moment, that is when you cannot load your engine, eg stuck in traffic, idling, etc. and excessive diesel that is meant to burn in DPF leaks through rings down into crank case. This causes extra wear since diesel despite being "oily" has wrong viscosity and other lubrication-related parameters compared to motor oil. And it won't evaporate from oil like gasoline does...
mibars My point was it would work better than nothing. I could try it out with some old beater for fun. If I get bored, I might buy myself an old Fiat Punto and try it out ;)

The idea was NOT to shoot the enemy, but to gas him to death!!!
Grymt att ni renoverar gamla tanks motorer, keep up the good work gubbs!

BEAUTIFUL! CLEAN, NICE PAINT! GOOD JOB!
hey claus...follow that smoke trail. At there is a tank
The fumes would surely kill any enemy trying to get close to the tank it was fitted to
Is there water getting into the cylinders? White smoke.
I'd be tempted to point the exhausts upwards to avoid choking too many of the audience. You want them to watch again, don't you?
and in our time, these engines slightly modernized, known as D12 used on Russian warships as gensets
Is it possible to install this engine on a car?
i agree with Draxindustries, the Injection Pump ie: Throttle Body/Carburator is ka putt
Are these engines two stroke diesels or four stroke?
Is that a V2 used in the T 34?

This should be B-2 from a T-55
T34 v-12? converted to electric start ??? nice!!!
Seeing the smoke, I wanna install EGR...
Normally my engine pulls the trailer, but in Soviet Russia trailer hauls engine.
I was wondering that myself, it appears to be started on air though? If so, what's the battery for?
Worn out pump/injectors, all that smoke is unburnt fuel..
All that could be afforded, was paint : - )
Draxindustries1 it's a tank engine who the fuck gives a shit about fuel economy
Its not about fuel economy, unburnt fuel leaving the exhaust like that means reduced power. Its smoking like this due to worn out injection components..
Draxindustries1 that too but I doubt you could find parts for this engine
After a rebuild > ruclips.net/video/lqkVLk3H90I/видео.html
Where I can buy this engine??? I really need one))
so...this is what my little brother told me about.. Thomas the tank engine
It's just cold
what kind of power was the t34 engine putting out?
Do diesel engines produce carbon monoxide? what if the air/fuel ratio were altered, as in blocking the vents a bit ?
I mean do they produce CM in large amounts
This must be Lars Von Triers new smoke machine
i read that these engines had a longer stroke on one bank of cylinders. odd.

nice bug fogger :D
Where to buy one
is this a 2 stroke diesel?
Kharkiv V-2, a V-12 diesel used to power several tanks from the 40s.
a new pump would be 100% efficiency and at least 25% more HP
Y10Q that smoke system, what you mean inject fuel to exhaust manifold and it create white smoke.
Nice try to search for Truckpower and see a tuned Transmash do some real work
cause in soviet russia you no get ear rape ear rape gets you
Engine from tank T54 or T55
Its from T-55 tank
Mosquito control device.
What's with all the smoke?
Ariel Lezen watch part 2
It looks that it may burn more motor oil than a typical car burns fuel..
Well duhh, it's a diesel. It's called diesel oil btw.

Co oni tam nalali, że tak kopci?
nice x fumigation
Running lean.....
