This is a hauntingly beautiful video. Mirel's voice is so clean and pure, it's a lovely contrast to the simple twang of the guitar. I adore the shift in lyrics that occur when the electric guitar enters.
"Momma, I know the well is dry Sing me a song one more time The wind is raging and the birds won't fly Nothing to eat and nowhere to hide Momma it's gonna be alright Tell me the story just one more time Where the grass is green and the water runs wild Where forever is forever and no-one has to die Because you can't drink the dirt even if you wanna You can't eat the dirt even if you wanna You can't breathe the dirt even if you wanna But you'll be in the dirt, you'll be the dirt Momma, I know I'm ready now I'm not afraid, and you don't need to cry Just close my eyes and wake up into a new life Momma, there's no need to cry Because you can't drink the dirt even if you wanna You can't eat the dirt even if you wanna You can't breathe the dirt even if you wanna But you'll be in the dirt, you'll be the dirt"
The best album from Finland in 2014. It has a typical melancholic, yet message-powered Finnish style. She's from sort of "country-side considered" town of Espoo, quite near by the capital Helsinki.
in a matter of sound, the first one i can think is marissa nadler. but i would add nick cave and the bad seeds, chelsea wolfe, isobel campbell & mark lanegan, molly drake, mary lou williams, the angels of light, sibylle baier, "to bring you my love" from pj harvey, and -i dare to say- benjamin clementine, especially for the huge creativity in sound they both share. hope you enjoy! and, since it has been three years now, if you have any recommendations to give back i would love to hear them!!
I wondered how she can be named Wagner when we know that this is originally a "german" kind of name ?... as she do not look half white half black...I've made some researches 2 months ago and well Mirel was adopted and is from Finland...so Finland is not only this new wave of icy hard rock bands... Mirel seems lyrically promising even though musically it sound just too basic...(at least to my ears)
Right you are, she was adopted from Ethiopia, but brought up in Espoo just outside Helsinki. I strongly recommend to see her live, which at least for me opened my eyes and ears to her. Concerning "new wave of icy hard rock band". That wave is some 15 years old now. Recommend strongly that you have a look at what else Finland has to offer. The metal scene is strong, yes, but the singles chart is dominated by domestic hiphop and reggae, the electronic scene has long traditions and there is a thriving indie scene. I checked the blue site it is interesting.... I don't know if the charts are really dominated by urban music... probably it is the case of the single charts but usually pop rock and heavy rock do well in the album charts section... but anyway about finland you surely knows more than me...what is the state of music there... A Finland band that i appreciate some of their music videos is The Von Hertzen Brothers... just some of the videos are good ...it is rather heavy but more in a vintage orientation...
You are right in that hard rock and metal do better in the album chart section. I didn't mean that it isn't popular, because it still is. But the time of the Finnish metal hype is over and popular music in Finland has diversified a lot in the last 20 years. Von Hertzen Brothers are good, but if you want something a bit less heavy you might want to check out bands like Satellite Stories and why not Softengine. The latest album by Disco Ensemble might also be worth a listen.
How can you have the surname LIGHTHOUSE when it's fairly evident that you are not very bright and, I may be wrong but you don't seem to have saved anyone from a life on the rocks...??
EnosEverything True :-p ... sometimes i found my username kinda pretentious...but my previous name "BohemianConspiracy" that i used 6 years was maybe better but less positive and more obscure... "starrylighthouse" sound like a shitty coldlay song hehe... I hesitated with StatuesofPompei...which is maybe a better username... but it is hard to change...when some people knows you with a particular name... Don't take too seriously my username... it is half a joke half a metaphor

Less is more, and Mirel is soooo much more. Amazing stuff.
My my. Mirel is the best. Such raw brutal perfection.
"Momma, I know the well is dry
Sing me a song one more time
The wind is raging and the birds won't fly
Nothing to eat and nowhere to hide
Momma it's gonna be alright
Tell me the story just one more time
Where the grass is green and the water runs wild
Where forever is forever and no-one has to die
Because you can't drink the dirt even if you wanna
You can't eat the dirt even if you wanna
You can't breathe the dirt even if you wanna
But you'll be in the dirt, you'll be the dirt
Momma, I know I'm ready now
I'm not afraid, and you don't need to cry
Just close my eyes and wake up into a new life
Momma, there's no need to cry
Because you can't drink the dirt even if you wanna
You can't eat the dirt even if you wanna
You can't breathe the dirt even if you wanna
But you'll be in the dirt, you'll be the dirt"
Just ~wow~ to the voice, the lyrics, the video, ... the woman!
Where are you mirel,we need new songs 😍
I've listened to this song many times but I never realized how tragic the story in this song was until I actually read the lyrics just now.
