    It was more than a “few years.” Jones went 49-1 from 1989 to 2003!!! His only loss was a DQ. He was slaying world champions. Handed James Tony and Montell Griffin their first L

      I love roy but are you nuts, maybe the most athletely gifted fighter ever but his technique is flawed, he sits in the philly shell with his hands down . His foot work is flawed, his defense is flawed, his boxing iq is flawed, speed and power is what he had, and when he got older and that elite athletism faded than you saw what happened? Lol right??? Def NOT the most complete fighter ever, ray robinson. Henry armstrong, crawford , Sal Sanchez, hagler. Those are complete fighters.. maybe the fastest ever for his size

Give me one, just one fighter in boxing history that had more natural god giving ability! Ali? Nope, mayweather? Nope, sugar ray leonard? He is the only prize fighter that one can even attempt to make a comparison. Sugar ray robinson? Nope, sugar ray never had the speed and reactions of one Roy jones junior at middleweight or higher. Im not gonna argue with you anymore because you dont know how to stick to the point. harleyzeth Roy Jones never really learned how to box, he maid Aton of fundamental errors that you learn not to do when you start boxing, he was so athletically gifted that he didn’t need to learn them, when he started getting older and wasn’t as quick and his timing started to go, he was getting beat by the elite because he never learned the fundamentals of how to defend yourself in the ring

    • @dtill5322
      @dtill5322 6 лет назад +10

      Cody Mana that's totally inaccurate as hell. That man was a genius in the ring, and knew how to box. It's called training to a level to where. You don't necessarily have to apply fundamentals anymore. Your discipline and God given talent allows you to supplement. Where others must apply fundamentals. Like driving a car or riding a bicycle with no hands. Whilst taking sharp turns or corners. Where other riders must always apply the 11 to 2/5 on the wheel. Otherwise they'd crash and burn.
      RJJ, Ali, SRR, SRL, Whitaker, Mayweather even and several others. Are classified as unconventional boxers. They dont necessarily obey the textbook boxing rules. They're so talented and gifted due to rigorous training. It allows them to cheat/bend the rules a bit. The only thing Roy never did was change his style as he aged like others did. He kept trying to do the things he'd get away with in his prime. He adopted no defense, other than relying on his fast twitch movements and reflexes. That were shot by the time he started taking losses. Make no mistake about it, all of them guy's with superb athleticism. Had to train themselves to that level. It didnt just come overnight. Failure to adapt and trying to break bad habits. That one has been so accustomed to getting away with for years. They are hard to break and become second nature to an individual. Jones knew boxing and bagged plenty of elites. He lost to journeyman, that he'd easily beat in his prime.

That would have been a bad fight for Jones especially at Tyson's Prime, Pre Don King Days, under Cus, and Rooney's training. Ben wasn't one you wanted to get hit by too often and McClellen didn't give enough respect to Ben and payed for it dearly.

    Tyson would dealt with Montell Griffin better than Roy did in his first fight with Montell, Roy had to fight like Tyson in his rematch vs Griffin which worked but wouldn`t have worked vs better fighters, if Roy came forward against Hagler like that he`d get a lesson on inside fighting which Tyson at his weight was a master at. I feel Tony Tucker was better than any opponent Roy beat P4P and Spinks would have beaten Roy at light heavy and heavyweight, I feel a good comparison would be Roy v Spinks at LH to Tyson v Spinks at heavy even though Spinks was more effective at the lighter weight, Tyson and Spinks were better than Roy.

      I honestly think Lomachenko is a "new Roy Jones" to boxing. I believe they're the same kind of fighter: pure masterclass speed and technique.

    History is funny, now Roy is getting credit for taunting as if he didn’t steal the hole telling the ref to stop the fight thing from Leonard who stole his hole style from Ali. And I’ve seen a bunch of rounds end without a fighter landing a punch Christ Willy pep won a round without landing a punch. I’m surprised rogan is such a RJJ fanboy. But I do agree at 160-168 Roy was on an other level than any other fighter of “HIS” generation.and to be fair I really didn’t like Roy but have way more respect for him now due to the way he would lose like a champion and always come back for more, if he had a great chin he actually might have been the g.o.a.t but it’s still clearly Robinson.

  • @guywilliams6569

    What happened with Roy Jones jr. Was... Be fought past his point and a guy called Antonio Tarver, sometimes the guy just has your number and Antonio Tarver had Roy Jones jr. Number... but rice should have never thought past the second knockout, he really shouldn't have got past the first one, but the second one showed that his chin was gone and he tarnished his legacy after that... However, he is undoubtedly the best. If you take him and compare him to the champions of the past who fought all the time, that's a whole different thing, but I don't think you could take any Champion within his weight class at any time in history and put them up against Roy Jones in his prime and they would have come out on top over Roy.

THERES NO SUCH THING AS A PRIME IN FIGHTING EITHER YOU CAN FIGHT OR YOU CANT FIGHT.
    IF ROY WAS EVER GREAT HE WOULD =NT HAVE BEEN ON HIS BACK UNCONSCIOUS SOO OFTEN.

    I hate it when people overrate Roy Jones Jr. boxing is about more than speed. what Roy did was all genetics and speed. not much in skill.
    He wasnt that great.
    boxing fundemantal are important to true boxing fans and Roy dosnt bring that he brings the genetic freak show with super speed. Understand that the average person no matter how much they train cant do what Roy did becaue it was based on genetics and not a matter of skill.

      Then how can he be overrated? By your own admission he wasnt a great boxer, DESPITE his lack of fundamentals he went on to become a top 20 fighter all time one athleticism alone. Thats mindblowing to me! We will never sew another fighter with rjjs physical gifts. He is without question the most naturaly physically gifted fighter this sport has ever seen and there isnt a close second.
