    • @murph1329
      @murph1329 3 года назад

      NO NO NO...no to Texas. The problem with the Big12 is Texas. We see if often in society where one's own pride can cause self-destructive behavior. Texas' self aggrandizing actions lead to the collapse of the Big12. But what makes it all the worse is Texas is once again too proud/selfish to see how their own actions got us to where we are today. No conference should take Texas. They should go down with the ship they sunk. They've taken no ownership, zero repent, which means they are only doomed to become a toxic program wherever they land. They should be shunned. You reap what you sow.
      As much as I'd like to see Texas lose 5/6 games a season and become a bottom feeder team, unfortunately I don't even think that would inject any humility into this program.

    Sark will run an offensive juggernaut at Texas. Because of his time at Bama, and his chance of being in the SEC, he can convince Texas teams who want to play the highest level of college ball on a weekly basis, that they don't have to leave Texas. It will also bring talented kids from other SEC areas that were iffy on Texas because of Big 12 style of play, to go there.
    The DC get is also severely underrated. Getting Kwiatkowski was a huge win and a guy I wanted LSU to go after.

    The problem that schools have is that prestige does not trump bad coaching. For example, let's say that Saban decided to move back home to West Virginia to retire and took the WVU job. He would not have too much of an issue with getting talent to play there. Also, these recruits don't have any allegiance to any of these schools.

    Good discussion. To the point about the importance of coaching in college football, I'd argue that coaching is actually an overrated aspect of college football, and is secondary to both program resources ($) and geography (proximity to recruits). Conference affiliation is also more important than coaching, but is mostly a way to mitigate locational disadvantages for certain programs (ie., help Wisconsin out-recruit UCF for Florida recruits). With very few exceptions, the best programs have always been the highest-paying, in the most fertile recruiting territories. Nick Saban isn't going to win national titles at places like Boston College or Washington State. You can have the best coach in the world, but it's resources ($) and recruits that make a program elite.
