There's just to many deadweight programs in that Conference now. If a 4-2 Ole Miss or Arkansas team was coming to town, their fans would be there wensday for the game. Without them it's over or you can now be like the Conference USA or Big East or something.
I've repeated myself a lot but the Texas hate by the college football community is SEVERELY cutting off their reasoning on how big Texas can become now that they enter the SEC. Sark will run an offensive juggernaut at Texas. Because of his time at Bama, and his chance of being in the SEC, he can convince Texas teams who want to play the highest level of college ball on a weekly basis, that they don't have to leave Texas. It will also bring talented kids from other SEC areas that were iffy on Texas because of Big 12 style of play, to go there. The DC get is also severely underrated. Getting Kwiatkowski was a huge win and a guy I wanted LSU to go after. Overall Texas will turn out to be a huge success a couple year into the expansion.

He would not have too much of an issue with getting talent to play there. Also, these recruits don't have any allegiance to any of these schools.
Good discussion. To the point about the importance of coaching in college football, I'd argue that coaching is actually an overrated aspect of college football, and is secondary to both program resources ($) and geography (proximity to recruits). Conference affiliation is also more important than coaching, but is mostly a way to mitigate locational disadvantages for certain programs (ie., help Wisconsin out-recruit UCF for Florida recruits). With very few exceptions, the best programs have always been the highest-paying, in the most fertile recruiting territories. Nick Saban isn't going to win national titles at places like Boston College or Washington State. You can have the best coach in the world, but it's resources ($) and recruits that make a program elite.

So I don't think this is just a bluff from OU and Texas. Both of them know they are that Conference. And I think that Big 12 President or whomever? And the other schools forgot it. Without them it's over or you can now be like the Conference USA or Big East or something.
And adding four group of 5 teams is not going to help.
