      Its because casual NFL fans are kinda dim, to be frank. For the casual fan, you're either amazing Mahomes/Burrow/Allen/Jackson level, or you're complete garbage. Nothing else.
      Mahomes has had the best TE in football, his entire career. He had peak Tyreek. He has one of the best defenses in football the last 5 years. And yet, Purdy has had a better QB rating the last 3 years than Mahomes and his stats were WAY better this year. Mahomes went 5 - 7 his last year at Texas Tech. People get blinded by wins.
      I still think Mahomes, and the other QBs I mentioned, can put a team on their back and win the game more often than not. I think that's only part of Purdy's game that needs developing (he's only 25) as he can do that _sometimes_ . To use a basketball metaphor, he's a 40% 3 point shooter (Steph Curry numbers) but he'll miss a buzzer beater more often than he'll make it. AND THAT'S OK. Tarvaris Jackson has more Super Bowl rings than Dan Marino. Things aren't binary.

    "You can remove the name Sam Darnold and put the name Brock Purdy"? Seriously? One guy led his team to two straight NFC Conference Championships, winning one of those. We just saw him take on the same Lions defense 6 days before Sam couldn't score a TD against them. Those two are NOT the same. One guy has been in the league for a very long time and had an outlier year the other has been here for a very short time and if it weren't for all the injuries and a couple of games they lost early in the season because of coaching, would be back in the playoffs.
    The only question about Purdy is do you believe he is your franchise QB or not. Kyle and John Lynch believe he is. If he's your guy, you pay him 55+, maybe you can avoid the Dak 60, claim Jerry is a bad GM. Thinking a franchise QB will take a number in the 40s in his first contract is delusional.
    The question about Darnold is was this an outlier season, do you want to stick to the original plan of going with the guy you drafted. Did him missing the season change that? Maybe he's not ready like you thought he would be. If Sam leads you further than you've been in a while, do you give him a long contract.

    Biggest question for me regarding the Purdy situation isn't even his contract but what SF does to replenish the cabinets. Deebo wants out it looks like, is McAfree healthy, Trent Will seemed to age @ LT, defense regressed a bit. Big decisions for York & Lynch on the coming months

    • @byronsmith3152
      @byronsmith3152 9 часов назад +2

      Well they are ALL under contract still. So you really do not have to worry about them till after next year. By then, they will have aged out anyways. Niners are top 8 in cap space for next year already. And that is before the rollover of this years money. Now can they not mess up the draft is the big question. They just KILLED it this year so they need to continue that streak.

    • @q-j-p
      @q-j-p 9 часов назад

      @byronsmith3152 1/4th that space goes to Purdy if they sign so it would be wise to push till next year & flesh out the roster for future success if you want him @ the helm imo
      Also think you could recoup assets for Deebo if he's truly disgruntled as a lot of WRs are this year. Not sure contract structure but if money is a concern do a swap for Hill and give a 4th or send him to another AFC opponent (Steelers are an interesting fit for a Pickens swap or maybe to Chargers for some draft capital; think those are best suitors)
      Defense first draft, wouldn't be surprised if they get another LB or Safety & a DL in early rounds

    • @bobjoe2788
      @bobjoe2788 9 часов назад +1

      @@q-j-p Not really sure that Deebo is disgrunted with the team. If anything, it feels like the organization should be concerned about the future value that Deebo will contribute. Deebo had a pretty tough year, and his pneumonia and other injuries might be the cause of that but I just don't see the 9ers being able to recoup significant enough draft value from a trade to justify the dead cap hit. Unless Deebo truly is disgruntled, I have become skeptical on the 9ers trading him just because I think his trade value has dropped substantially. Regardless, of the points described above, I'm most concerned about Trent's age and the lack of a viable replacement, and lots of potential losses in the depth of that defense (Greenlaw, Lenoir, Hargrave, etc. might be gone). They definitely need another couple successful drafts if they want to maintain success. I think the upcoming year will be massive in terms of discovering the future of this team (can Deebo return to shape? Can McCaffrey come back strong? Can the 49ers find a strong DC and replenish this defense? Will Aiyuk still be explosive after his injury?). So many question marks about this team but they do have a very easy schedule next year so I still believe they could turn it around and become a contender again

      Maholmes’ deal was a bargain to everyone aside from casuals though. The fact that it was a 10 year deal automatically made his contract one of the lowest annually for a star qb.
      The cap always goes up, thats why we keep seeing stars consistently resetting the market year after year. Whats top tier money now will soon be the norm and a bargain in 2 years.
      When you have maholmes not resetting the market but taking the norm right away, the bargain part comes a whole lot earlier, and because its a 10 year extension, its also a bargain for much longer.
      The only way the deal blows up on the team’s face is if the player suddenly regresses due to any kind of reason, look at deshaun watson, carson wentz, even goff’s deal looked so bad the rams had to attach a 2nd 1st rounder for detroit to agree on absorbing his contract.
      End of the day, its not the raw number but rather percentage of the cap that agents and front offices are negotiating with stars. Brockman can get some real hate for his takes or willingness to be the opposite guy of the table for the shows sake but I find it very hard to disagree with this line "are you serious about winning or do you just wanna get paid?" Because that's absolutely the feeling I always have about QB's that suddenly jump to 50-60 million style deals, record breaker deals, market setting deals. If you're actually serious about legacy, denting your cap space that much doesn't help. Every time a QB comes out and says I took a team friendly deal and its these contracts, the eye rolls from the populace are audible. Especially when some of them renegotiate a higher deal, a raise, before its over.
    I'm a Seattle fan and saw this first hand with Wilson. He was willing to complain openly about not getting better line help for example, but he always took short term contracts to maximize his earnings. There was never really cap help with him. Fans like me don't want to hear it anymore. Either get paid and accept people look at you as a dude who is all about bank or get paid "slightly" less and at least allow yourself a chance at a title. Fans like me are no longer sympathizing when you get P A I D and pretend it was for the team and the team falters. It's gotten old.

Does it matter that he struggled late this year in tight games when those 4-5 superstars had dropped to 1 or 2? That he handed the momentum over to the Lions with a very poor throw in a game they were fighting hard to win? How about failing to convert a 3rd & 4 in overtime of the SB when it was needed most?
