Always been a big fan of Philips / marantz cd players . Currently have a cd 950 .Honestly think they have been underrated in the past but I think now people are realising how good they are .
Had one back in the 90's with an Audio Alchemy dac through an Audiolab 8000A through Tannoy 611's for a year or so the through the mighty Mission 753's. why did i change it in the early 2000's? well some one offered me £400 for the CD and Dac and my local paper had someone selling a Meridian 207 combo for £100, few days at Meridian near by and it was upgraded and better than new for another £100 and was a big step up the food chain. Forward to 2012 and an 850 mk 2 showed up again second hand for £120 in mint condition through my then Rega dac it was astounding how much better than the Meridian it sounded. Still have both to this day and will for ever I think.
