Trevor Horn is a genius behind the console - this was quite possibly one of the best sounding CD's, lovely dynamic range, and not a hint of the loudness war to come.
Philips / Magnavox CD Players with the Swing arm Laser and the TDA 1541 DAC Chip is the best sounding CD players to date in my opinion. I buy everyone I find. Quite a few CD player companies used the TDA 1541 Chip. Several Sony's in fact.
My father bought a whole Philips Stereo set in the mid-80s... FP-146 Linear Tracking Turntable, FT-144 Digital Synthesized FM/AM MW/LW Tuner, FA-156 Integrated Stereo Amplifier w/ integrated 5 Band EQ, FC-144 Microcomputer controlled Cassettedeck, CD-204 Compact Disc Player - Programmable Memory (full metal tray). He didn't like the tone of the original Philips F9434 DRC speakers that came with it, so he opted to go with Capella CP-3000 speakers (engineered by Bose) 3-way... 4-8 Ohm 85db sensitivity 15-60 watts recommended amp. power. Syncom computer tested loudspeaker (according to the label). Sadly the turntable died, the amp died, the cassettedeck did... what's worse was that in 1990 we had a burglary and they stole that CD player! >:( He bought a Philips CD-600 afterwards to replace it and that's what I am still using to this day, and I haven't yet heard any better CD-player. The only thing I did last year was give it a lube job after 28 years since purchase as well as an lens cleaning with a cotton swab and alcohol, and the player operates like new and search times are back to normal. I am still pondering if I should scavenge for a complete stereo set and surprise my dad with it. :)
What are you on about? The TDA547 does not have a dual crown version. That was the TDA1541A S2 DAC. Furthermore, this CD650 came with the TDA1541. Only the Philips CD880 and CD960 came with the TDA1541A S2 (Dual Crown) (vs. S1 for Single Crown).
