David Bates’ latest recording project with his acclaimed orchestra, La Nuova Musica, shines the spotlight on the obbligato instrumentalists, violinist Thomas Gould, oboist Leo Duarte and bassoonist Joe Qiu. They stand as equal partners alongside a world-class line up of soloists - counter-tenor Iestyn Davies, soprano Lucy Crowe and mezzo soprano Christine Rice - showing how Handel wrote music as virtuosic and lyrical for his unsung heroes as for their singing counterparts.
This recording includes arias from Handel masterpieces Teseo, Rinaldo, Giulio Cesare, Rodrigo, Agrippina, Amadigi, Aci Galatea e Polifemo and Ariodante.
Recorded as part of a partnership with Pentatone, the disc is the second to be released on the Pentatone label, following the Gluck Orfeo e Euridice, which was both BBC Music Magazine Opera Choice and Gramophone Editor’s Choice in December 2019.
