Hey Jason in 2009! Greetings from the future! I've never heard this song before (was googling "Cath Carroll") (the band, not the song, but here we are!) but your mention of mixtapes sent me RIGHT BACK to the 90s! The time spent carefully choosing songs, writing blurbs for each one ("...the only reason I even KNOW about Wolfgang Press is I JUST HAPPENED to surf into 120 Minutes and Lewis Largent was talking up "Going South"....), picking out just the right instrumental to fill in the extra minute or two of blank tape after the last song....man! If you'd've told me then how badly I'd miss those days I'd've been like "yeah, right."
I agree! I remember when I heard it for the first time [20 years ago] and I didn't like the song, but I loved the guitars. 2 years later, "Perfect Teeth" was one of my favorite albums.
True Love Always were a really good teenbeat band, super catchy like old Promise Ring stuff.. I live in richmond, va so I used to have close access to teenbeat shows between here and DC. Never got to see Eggs though. They used to play Richmond a bit, I hear.
amazing. only saw this once on 120 minutes. but I did get to see them w Stereolab in 93 or 94.. I cant remember now.. Somewhere I have a vhs video copy of the show. need to find that..I've been waiting for this to show up on youtube the site has been lacking in early 90's indiepop..
I really wish there was a decent quality version of this somewhere. Props to oohtandembike for posting it, but it's such a gorgeous video and it deserves a higher def version.
anyone remember Eggs or Blast off Country Style? those were two good teen beat bands mr. robinson signed to teenbeat when he still lived here in virginia.
damn, this band was my life in the 90s. i would love to have mr krauth teaching me some english. mr krauth had some fine solo material too. cape may was the jam.
@KISSMikePEZ hoping Eggs' Exploder album will get "rediscovered" as a lost classic soon. I thought it was classic the moment it came out, but... yeah, seriously, why wasn't that album huge? also: unrest are amazing.
toab coke I know this is a 7 year old comment, but goddamn. Another Eggs fan? Wow. Internet, just when I think I have you figured out... Also bruiser and how do you like your lobster? are killer "lps" for the mid-90s indie connoisseur.
Once there was a band , and once there was a sound once there was a face the singer's name was mark with such face so round and fair robinson his last name is once there was their fame and disbanded now though our hearts never quite left in unrest . I love unrest and always will such fond memories of hanging out at record stores masturbating , goin to shows listening to pavement , unrest , ride and the roses doing nothing , living nothing quickly but so so sweetly . jcr.
If you do not know how to do graphic design in a post Peter Saville atmosphere (Like our man from Unrest who payed homage to it 20 years ago), perhaps go back to the books? Nagle was a popular one)....but I guess you don't get too many "Nail Shop" offers these days.

Thanks for typing this out. There's some parts I'm not sure about, but I have a few corrections (as I hear it anyway) that I put in CAPS. Mainly, I think there are two spots where Mark says NINETY-FOUR (the year Perfect Teeth came out), kinda like a lot of rapper of the area would throw the year into their songs (like PE's "1989, a number, another summer...") You were the very first one You were the first one you are the very first one making out all over me you set my nervous hands are(?) so take me more, you'll take me you were the first one and i'd like to say you were the first one and i'd like you to stay when i met your STUNNING love your lucid eyes came to life come on down to NINETY-FOUR you tell me more and i'll tell you more you were the first one and i'd like to say you were the first one and i would like to say take is down down on the floor it's piping hot let's move it more temperature is very cool and i was sure that i would feel like you were the first one and i'd like to say you were the first one and i'd like you to stay you were the first one and i'd like to say you were the first one please please please go away you were the first one i love you someday you will be the last one please come back someday you were the very first one you were the first that i ever did all the time and all the day into your eyes, deeper the day PERFECT TEETH IN NINETY-FOUR kiss me more and i will kiss you more you were the first one and i'd like to say you were the first one and i'd like you to stay you were the first one i love you someday you will be the last one please comeback someday number one the very first one
1994 Mark Robinson looked like a cross between Morrissey and Black Francis.
Always love Bridget!
This song was on every mix tape I made, from 1994 until people stopped using cassettes. Best song ever.

One of the best rhythm guitar tracks ever.
I agree! I remember when I heard it for the first time [20 years ago] and I didn't like the song, but I loved the guitars. 2 years later, "Perfect Teeth" was one of my favorite albums.
the drummer, phil krauth is my English teacher!!!
how cool is that??
This is a sexy song and still listening to it 20+ years later.
oh my god hes my english teacher this year too

this song meant the world to me from high school to my mid-20s. sigh. such sweet nostalgia. and it's as good now as it was then
Saw them this weekend in DC at the Black Cat...still rockin...they closed with this song and it rocked the house!!!
Unrest/Air Miami withstand the test of time. So, so good!
amazing. only saw this once on 120 minutes. but I did get to see them w Stereolab in 93 or 94.. I cant remember now.. Somewhere I have a vhs video copy of the show. need to find that..I've been waiting for this to show up on youtube the site has been lacking in early 90's indiepop..
this song has been stuck in my head for days! I hard a hard time find it-yay!
Man... I haven't heard this song in ages. "Perfect Teeth" is one of my favorite records.
Ah, it's been SOOO long since I heard this awesome ditty. Such a great jangly sound - humerous yet serious. Rock on!!!
Mr. Krauth... My respect is gained, sir.
Makes me want to pogo around the room! Damn, I miss this band!
Excellent, I hadn't seen this in forever
i'm glad i was born in the 90's, just because of songs like this.
Its awesome that mr krauth is my teacher :)
Magic Magic Magic. Magic.
I really wish there was a decent quality version of this somewhere. Props to oohtandembike for posting it, but it's such a gorgeous video and it deserves a higher def version.
anyone remember Eggs or Blast off Country Style? those were two good teen beat bands mr. robinson signed to teenbeat when he still lived here in virginia.

damn, this band was my life in the 90s. i would love to have mr krauth teaching me some english. mr krauth had some fine solo material too. cape may was the jam.
...haven't heard this in a long time...looking for new palatable music...that's going really well...
Super Indie Guitar song!!
Fucking great song, great album, great band ... soundtrack of my mispent youth.
What happened to him was Air Miami, Olympic Death Squad, and Flin Flon which were all bigger than Unrest.
Unrest were one of the few bands that got better with each album release. I love all of their old stuff, but "Perfect Teeth" just nails it.
the scene kinda reminds me of Beyond the Valley of The Dolls a little bit :)
Mark should put out a video compilation of Unrest/Air Miami videos...
Probably my favorite song from undergrad. Never seen the video though. Singer doesn't look anything like I expected.
oh i love the computerized robot voice that introduces all the songs on the box set!
mr. Krauth LOL!!!! nice
I bought "exploder" and "Lobster" in the used bin at a local record store about 10 years ago for 3.00 each.
@KISSMikePEZ hoping Eggs' Exploder album will get "rediscovered" as a lost classic soon. I thought it was classic the moment it came out, but... yeah, seriously, why wasn't that album huge? also: unrest are amazing.

really cool actually
@theath1337 You may have actually BEEN born in the 1990s BECAUSE of songs like this ;)
If you want to learn how sing your ass off...this is a great place to start.
Nice! IB is tough, I'm only in AP. Unrest rules regardless of that shit

He's an English teacher now? Eff the world. He should be rocking out again!
Yay Minneapolis!
I’m no doctor, but if I go into atrib/fib/defrib/cardio malfeasance etc I’m pretty sure this song would at least get my ass to the hospital.
totally does.
so sad that it inspired a website that ive been sitting on for longer than i care to think about
I think of this song whenever I don't make out with anybody. Always.
@TerbyKirk Because people are stupid. Man..I miss this stuff.
You mean Evelyn? I believe she's married to Mark nao.

GOYA!
Apparently Bridget Cross spent some time in prison. : O
@Art and Music Found an interview where she says it herself. Try and Google Bridget Cross prison and it should be the first result (a Vice article).
14 people were not the first one
PHIL KRAUTH. i just don'g get how this dude now spends 6 hours a day teaching english. it's a shame
@ripken3317 Yeah dood, becuz bookz r so s2pid and boring indie rock is so important
Mr. Robinson, you are a bad influence on our youth and should be ashamed of yourself.
Love, Butch and Ray.
@cuentainex not as cool as the singer being Paul F Tompkins!
