MTV's 120 Minutes played this and other good bands from the punk, college radio, new wave, indie, and alternative genres..an era when music actually ruled TV.
II had only heard the Deftones cover of this for the past 10 years and finally listened to the original today. Damn what an amazing song. How did I never hear of Jawbox?!?
Daniel Sanford yeah, it's a shame, the whole for your own special sweetheart album was pretty solid. also, for a dischord band, you'd think they'd have had more acknowledgement in the underground scene.
There are too many bands in the 90s I dismissed as Fugazi clones and as a result never saw live. I’ve come to see the error of my ways - Jawbox are amazing!
kim coletta and bill barbot are my parents. so crazy watching them like this. they both have completely normal jobs these days, you could never tell just by looking at them that they used to be rockstars 🤟🏼🤟🏼
When were they together? Was this just like dating back in the day or were they actually like married and everything? I was sorry to see that bill bowed out on the continued reunion of the band, but it sounds like he is enjoying life.
Agree! To be honest, I’d forgotten all about this song until I was listening to the Deftones today. Then came across Far’s version and realized I hadn’t paid attention back then to know their version wasn’t Jawbox’s, only slightly heavier!🤣 I love all three!
Me too!S he was definitely fun to watch bouncing around and rocking that Fender P bass! I hear she's co-running DeSoto records and is also a substitute teacher these days... Damn they need to have a reunion!
Me and my buddies did a 4 songs demo recording with at Jay Robbins studio down in Baltimore MA about 7 years ago. Jay is one of the coolest and most talented guys from the East Coast Hardcore days. Meeting him was one of the highlights of my life. We spent 3 afternoons with him at the studio. The guy is a masterful producer. Having idolized Jawbox and Burning Airlines we all were like beside ourselves! Jawbox was the Deathcab of their time. Here’s to you Jay Robbins!!!
15 years...wow. every day i feel older! i love how this song builds up before it explodes...when they played it live, screaming during the silent parts was the thing to do! i'm gonna steal some genius words: jawbox are so far ahead they're standing behind you.

cartmanrlsusall No :-( It's hard to see good acts in Alabama where I live. The last concert I was able to attend was Def Leppard and Joan Jett. It was awesome!! I had to travel almost 2 hours to the venue.
I heard this song from Spotify Playlist one day when I was goin at job in scooter. Never forget this kind of sound of guitar and the voice, remain instantly in the head and never go away. This is the way how goes with good song
Today's music is not in a sad state, you're just old. Bands make great music just like this all the time, you just probably stopped looking for it, at some point.
Deftones (Chino Moreno) are one of the greatest bands at covering amazing songs... they did a weezer cover and also simple man (which was much better than shinedown to my ears... though shinedown did amazing!)
@@guru187187 but why tho? Many bands do horrible takes on other people's songs. It's not easy to properly do a solid cover and bands like the Deftones do it extremely well. That doesn't take away from their original material.
This has to be the most creepy music video I've seen since Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun, I love it! This track is totally sweet too, I came here from the Deftones cover and am having a hard time deciding which is better. Now I am going to have to check out Jawbox's entire catalogue.
There are SO many awesome things about this band...........J. Robbins is so smart that I've learned a ton of great vocabulary words from reading his lyrics..........The bassist, Kim Coletta was also a 2nd grade teacher around the time they shot this..........a smart band for smart listeners..........
...God, I miss the days of gloriously surreal music videos like this (or at least I miss the days when those videos could actually get airplay). Bravo. ^_^
The drum tech from this album did the drum work on my 1st band's album...I've seen Jawbox countless times, this was a nice balst from the past, thanks!
Heard this again on WCSB (Cleveland, OH) 's "Rust Never Sleeps" radio show this morning- had to go find it again. Hasn't gotten one iota less awesome in the intervening years!
This video pretty much depicts what I loved about music videos back then, very surreal, raw and gritty. It really eally gives me a very nostalgic feeling of when I was in Middle School and I'd stay up late Sunday nights to fall asleep watching 120 Minutes. As for the Deftones/Far cover, it's among one of my favorite songs and is just as good as the original performed by Jawbox.
I don't think I've ever watched the video for this song until now. I'm glad I finally did. A band that is more than just a song. I like Burning Airlines, too 🍻
Indeed, those are two of my favorites from this album along with Cooling Card and Green Glass. I saw this video on Beavis and Butt-Head way back then. I don't know if I'd heard of them before that, but at some point I learned that they had been on Dischord. I ended up getting this CD. One of the several instances where buying a CD after seeing a video on Beavis & Butt-Head paid off.
i saw these guys live on this tour and they rocked the house with a sell out show and being front and center the bass player can make you melt as she gets down on the bass
Used to prefer the Deftones version of this but after listening to this one a bit more… the lead vocals are just so perfect for the song… I guess I just let the fact that I'm a Deftones fan cloud over it… but this song is honestly so good. Need some more Jawbox in my life :)
reminds me of Static Prevails by Jimmy Eat World. Such an awesome album. I actually just looked this up, so this is the first song I've ever heard by them. they sound great, I can't believe I had never heard their stuff before!
Never heard the Deftones version. Jawbox--one of the main reasons most of these hairlips calling themselves bands exist these days. Timeless and impeccable rock n' fuckin' roll.
I haven't heard the deftones version yet...gonna look it up right now...but they have great roots. I heard them do a Cure cover and loved it. Anyway...JAWBOX..one of my alltime favorite bands!
I've just played this album a few times. The 1st four songs are as good an opening to any album I've ever heard! Motorist and Breathe are so good it's bloody ridiculous!!!!
For Your Own Special Sweetheart is a classic album, as is Novelty. And the self titled is great too. Jawbox were brilliant. The main songwriter in this band (j robbins) formed another band after this called Burning Airlines and their two albums are also excellent
Music like this is STILL being made in 2016, you just need to know where to find it! Search up 'Running Dry' - HeadAche (Official Audio Video)'. Good shit
True! Good music just seems to be well hidden. There's just so much out there now. I'm very lucky to have a 21 year old son who is a drummer and a gf who is a symphony musician. Great music just seems to be all around me now. The Dear Hunter, Harvard, Coheed & Cambria, Thank You Scientist, Baroness and Elder to name a few.
If u like this band u should also listen to Chore, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbox, Season to Risk, The Jesus Lizard, and Girls Against Boys classic underrated bands
the bassist is my history teacher no joke
Kim Coletta is so freakin cool.
Haha nice
The bassist was a lot of people’s history teacher. At least she understands her complicity
That’s Awesome!! History Rocks
Kim Coletta is a beast. So friendly.
Bass player was my 8th grade history teacher, Ms. Coletta!
Actually, they got the name right. Unless everyone on YT is family of Jawbox members, I think it’s a legit claim
MTV's 120 Minutes played this and other good bands from the punk, college radio, new wave, indie, and alternative genres..an era when music actually ruled TV.
Subterranean was great also, showcase so many awesome bands!
II had only heard the Deftones cover of this for the past 10 years and finally listened to the original today. Damn what an amazing song. How did I never hear of Jawbox?!?
Noah Sparger-Hurt They never received any commercial success outside this minor hit.
Daniel Sanford yeah, it's a shame, the whole for your own special sweetheart album was pretty solid. also, for a dischord band, you'd think they'd have had more acknowledgement in the underground scene.
This sounds familiar... i think i heard this years ago not having any clue who it was at all.
I don’t know how you didn’t know of em. They were so underrated!
Jawbox was my favorite post punk band over fugazi from dc.
There are too many bands in the 90s I dismissed as Fugazi clones and as a result never saw live. I’ve come to see the error of my ways - Jawbox are amazing!
I Thank Deftones for showing me this great song.
I thank Beavis and butthead
Same. The Deftones Comment that Is ; )
This record is just brilliant. One of my all-time favorites. I'd take it to the island, definitely.

i saw they got added to the vegas fest! so cool
Do you ever quote their songs back to them? Because that would be amazing.
Also, as a fellow Xennial, please give them me my best wishes.
That’s so interesting!
When were they together? Was this just like dating back in the day or were they actually like married and everything? I was sorry to see that bill bowed out on the continued reunion of the band, but it sounds like he is enjoying life.
The chord voicings throughout this song are super airy and dissonant. Awesome.
Well put 👍
Michael Hedges video on channel, based
It was covered by both Deftones and Far, switching instruments through the song. Far is criminally under rated.
Agree! To be honest, I’d forgotten all about this song until I was listening to the Deftones today. Then came across Far’s version and realized I hadn’t paid attention back then to know their version wasn’t Jawbox’s, only slightly heavier!🤣 I love all three!

Jawbox was definitely an unsung, inde/alternative hero in the early-nineties. I wish I could have seen them perform live:(
Deftones smashed it, but the OG's do it best...I am so happy there is a video !
The chord change from 2:25-2:40 is definitely one of the most emotionally amazing changes ever.
Like, the contrast between both chords is sublime.
Deftones brought me here... Dang, great tune.
Same. Cool to hear the original, Deftones version sounds surprisingly close.
I’m so old I knew of these guys before deftones. Both awesome bands.
Me too!
Dear children,
This is music. Learn it. Love it. Pass it on :-)
120 minutes MTV still can't stand Kennedy but I loved that show.this video blew my mind thought I was the only person of color to groove to this

jawbox, amazing band...brings back my memories of my early teens. today's music is in a sad state.
lol. it has somehow managed to have gotten much much worse.

this song brings me back to summer 2007 so bad when i discovered them and listened to them so much. i get goose bumps from there songs.
This is probably the coolest music video ever. I hope Jawbox won an award for this. They were a great band.
J.Robbins and the rest of this outfit put together some of the best Indy of the day. I'm so happy to read others that love it as much as I have.
I saw these guys when I was 16 in Gainsville with Superchunk. Best time of my life
There was nothing better than this era of jawbox. The live shows were absolutely amazing.
When I used to be in a band, we recorded with J. Robbins in Baltimore. He's an amazing and creative individual.
Woke up with this in my head this morning. Having a great day.
im on a jawbox binge right now. feels better than drugs.
